Chapter 1255: Chapter 9 Cyclops
Daylily hadn’t returned yet. Tang Zheng took out the Crystal Heart of the Queen Bee and summoned a clone. He didn’t dare to use Ada—this was a premium prop that could negate a fatal injury. With the cave filled with all sorts of unclear dangers, just in case he would die, the loss would be enormous. He would surely cry himself to death.
Without being in a bursting state, the female musketeer could only last for five minutes, not to mention the waste of Life Energy, so Tang Zheng didn’t use her either.
"Hey, catch!" Lin Weiguo threw down the lighter, holding his rifle, always vigilant of his surroundings.
The clone set the plants on fire. Amidst the crackling and popping sounds of combustion, a large amount of green smoke drifted up. The man-eating vines immediately felt discomfort. Their leaves noticeably shrunk and closed their stomata, but the vines were still shaking, especially those Heart-eating cages, which were trembling fiercely.
"It’s working, Bi Yun, quick, have the puppet lift the Grass Bundle up near the smoke cages!" Tang Zheng already felt the cages relaxing, the space inside had significantly expanded.
"Save us!" The newbies all breathed a sigh of relief, then began shouting excitedly for help, wanting to be the first to escape.
Xu Biyun ignored them, preparing to have the puppet smoke the Heart-eating cage holding the captives of the Conquerors. She still had a kind heart. If it were the cautious Tang Zheng and Dantai, they would definitely have experimented with a newbie first. What if the expansion was an illusion?
"Yay, Uncle is the best!" Lu Fan cheered proudly, looking smugly at Mu Nianqi. "Tsch, what now? Admire me yet? With your impoverished brain, I fear you’d never think of a solution in your lifetime!"
Mu Nianqi wouldn’t stoop to argue with Little Lolita, but she gained a new respect for Tang Zheng. Calm, confident, and able to find a breakthrough in such a short time, it was no wonder these people trusted him so much.
The stench of excrement in the cave was strong, covering the smell of the Wormwood. For Tang Zheng to have noticed, it meant he was very attentive.
"Bi Yun sis, smoke that gray-clothed university student first. I observed earlier, if the plants were to feed, the next batch would start with them."
Lu Fan pointed at a Heart-eating cage on a plant opposite. The few university students who got called out were unsettled, their faces changing as they begged Xu Biyun.
"Save them first!" Tang Zheng appeared very generous, and the university students were tearfully grateful, warming up to him considerably.
"What a bunch of idiots, they can’t even tell that the Little Lolita made it all up," Mu Nianqi thought to herself. She didn’t want to offend Tang Zheng and also wanted to use a few cannon fodders to test the waters. So she kept quiet. For her, a bunch of unfamiliar alumni, it didn’t matter if they died.
The puppet held the burning Grass Bundle up to the edge of the Cage, and once the green smoke fumigated it, the Heart-eating cage opened, and the gray-clothed student thumped onto the puppet’s palm.
The newbies cheered, seeing hope for survival.
"This Bi Yun is quite straightforward, just an obedient fighter, but the Little Lolita amazes, not to speak of her deep cunning but also how ruthless she is!" Mu Nianqi was surprised yet again to see Little Lolita wearing Firefly.
"Ah, save me, the cage is closing in, I’m going to be eaten!" A female university student suddenly screamed out in terror, her eyes spinning.
"Save her!" Dong Zixuan, indeed a policewoman with a bursting sense of justice, shouted. Tang Zheng saw that the female student was acting, but couldn’t be bothered to object.
"We’re in trouble, Monsters are coming!" Daylily rushed into the cave, frantic. Behind her, the sound of heavy, concentrated footsteps followed, and in a few seconds, a Monster carrying a torch strode in, casting a giant shadow on the flickering fire-lit cave walls.
It was a Giant nearly six meters tall, with muscles as rugged as rocks bulging all over its body, filthy, caked in blood and soil, wearing only a leather skirt around its waist.
"Take up all the puppets. We’ll see what the situation is first!" Mu Nianqi quickly advised. It was best to understand the Monster’s form before engaging in combat.
"Quick, hide!" Tang Zheng had the same idea, but it was already too late.
Hurr hurr, hurr hurr, out of the Giant’s ugly face, which took up one-third of the overall size, came rumbling sounds as if communicating with allies. The other third was home to a blood-shot single eye. It carried a stone-ground wolf-tooth club over three meters long like a Siege Hammer—seemingly light as a toothpick in its hand—while the other hand held a Wild Beast with a smashed skull, making a bloodied entrance in front of everyone.
The man-eating vines were specially planted by the Cyclops as pets to keep the provisions captive and to guard their lair. The Yellow Plants were their natural bane.
When the Cyclops returned to its den, it saw the cages of the vines opened, torches burning on the ground, and two reserves prepared for winter’s ’provisions’ had escaped. It roared in anger, and upon hearing the warning, six more Giants swarmed in.
Looking at these tall and terrifying Monsters, the newbies held their breaths all at once, not even daring to breathe. The Conquerors, however, were assessing their combat power.
The Giant’s big nostrils worked like suction fans, vigorously sniffing in the air, huffing, and then suddenly fixated on a corner of the bushes and ran over.
The gray-clothed and female university students who were previously rescued were hiding there. Seeing the Giant charging toward them, they nearly went mad with fear.
"We’ll get caught and eaten, scatter and run for it, gamble on luck!" The female university student’s cunning was as evident as ever. She suddenly threw out a reminder and made a sprinting gesture, shifting two steps to the side.
The student in grey clothes watched the Giant charge furiously towards them, got scared out of his mind, and without thinking, dashed out of the bushes. He believed he could outrun his classmate, leaving her to distract the Monster, only to discover a few steps later that the Monster rolled over him like a tank, and his classmate hadn’t shown up at all.
"Damn it, I’ve been tricked!" The realization came too late for the student in grey. The Giant swung its Wolf-tooth Club with a whistling sound, smashing it onto his body.
With a squelch, the student in grey turned into a pile of mush, becoming a meatloaf stuck on the Wolf-tooth Club.
Screams rose one after another. The newbies stared in horror while the female university student crouched in the bushes, hugging her shoulders and praying non-stop. Unfortunately, Lady Luck did not bless her.
The Giant sniffed the air, scenting human odor, and walked towards the bushes. Suddenly reaching out like swatting a locust, it grabbed the female university student in one swoop.
"Save me, please save me!" The female student cried tears of desperation, but it was useless. Tang Zheng couldn’t make any response in time before the Giant stuffed her into its mouth.
The female student’s lower half was bitten off, and the entire cave resounded with the Giant’s mastication.
The newbies shivered uncontrollably as they watched the Giant clutching the remaining upper half of the female student, tossing it into its mouth. As the Teeth clamped down, blood sprayed out.
Ptooey, the Giant spit out the clothes and moved towards the Man-eating Vine. As its Cyclopean gaze swept over the newbies, they couldn’t help but shiver uncontrollably.
Turning around, the Giant burbled a long string of noises, then picked up the Grass Bundle dropped by the discarded puppet and placed it atop a Heart-eating cage. The cage opened, and the newbies fell down, but before they could touch the ground, the Giant caught them with one hand, not stopping until it had taken three of them.
"Don’t eat me!" The three unlucky ones chosen were close to collapsing. Their struggles proved futile; after all, ants can never shake a great tree.
The other Giants quickly kindled a Campfire and then stripped the clothes off the three newbies. Separating their thighs, they took sharpened sticks and aimed them at their backsides.
The newbies could already foresee what was about to happen. Indeed, the next second, the Giants thrust the sticks into one of the university students, skewering him and sticking out from his Neck.
Seeing that he was about to become a Human Meat Skewer, one of the chosen university students started to soil himself in fear. The Giants, seemingly indifferent to the mess, grabbed his Thigh and shook it vigorously a few times before impaling him.
The Campfire blazed to life as the Giants propped the sticks over it. Turning them continuously like roasting whole sheep, one even reached into the pocket of its leather skirt and grabbed a type of aromatic herb, twisted it fiercely to squeeze out the juice, and dripped it onto the Meat Skewer.
Sizzling, the Campfire roasted the flesh and skin, emitting a hair-raising sound. One of the skewered students did not die immediately and now experienced even greater pain.
"What do we do? Should we just go for it and kill our way out?" Lin Weiguo couldn’t stand the cannibalistic Giants any longer and was eager to slaughter them there and then.
"Don’t be rash, wait a moment longer!" Mu Nianqi intervened, "The Man-eating Vines obviously have lower IQs and dare not steal ’Food’ upon seeing the Giants. We can take this opportunity to scope things out, or perhaps leave while the Giants are asleep!"
One of the Giants couldn’t wait for the Human Flesh to cook thoroughly and tore off a Thigh, stuffing it into its mouth. The other Giants immediately became discontented, starting an argument. However, after it pointed to the Heart-eating cage, the Giants fell silent and came together in unison.
"Crap, are all these Giants gluttons? They’re still not sated?" The little crew-cut Doctor cursed, looking around restlessly, thinking of ways to divert their attention. He didn’t want to be eaten.
"Hey, look over here!" Tang Zheng shouted. He could no longer tolerate the Giants’ massacre. Despite knowing that waiting for the right moment was the best tactic, he just couldn’t do it.
"Monster, die!" Dong Zixuan had already lost her patience, pulling out her Howling Reaper and firing at the Giant’s Cyclopean eye. Unfortunately, the Bullet had no effect and only enraged them further.
The Giant strode towards Dong Zixuan, the policewoman activated her Ability, and magma pits appeared on the ground, burning some Debris. The Giants became enraged, and amid their bellowing, the plants began to thrash wildly and the Heart-eating cages shrank.
"Talk about backfiring!" Mu Nianqi was about to act when a wave of chilling cold swept through the cave like a storm, drastically dropping the temperature and even freezing the magma.
The Giants suddenly wore expressions of devout worship, kneeling on the ground, and the plants stopped their writhing!
A cloud of Black Mist suddenly emerged from nowhere, then parted to reveal a majestic Venetian mask, bedecked with feathers and Diamonds, over a meter tall. Without making the survivors wait long, the image of a man wearing an exquisitely ornate Venetian mask appeared on the mirror.
"Why have you trespassed into my domain?" The man behind the mask spoke with a magnetic voice, exuding a courteous gentlemanly demeanor. However, the words he uttered were steeped in bloodlust, "As punishment, you will participate in my Game, entertaining me with your lives and blood!" (To be continued.
