Chapter 1246: Chapter 109 Final Battle, Return, Evaluation_2
Without defense and healing, team battles were swift—usually deciding the outcome in just a few exchanges.
"What should we do?" Zhao Dongtao gasped for breath and asked Tang Zheng. The general had vanished without a trace; after all, he intended to occupy the area, so he had definitely studied the map. With the cover of many soldiers and the necessary potions and using the Tyrant as a meat shield, escaping shouldn’t be a problem.
"Let’s find Simpson!" Just in case they lost them, Tang Zheng had already placed trackers on Simpson and Eve, but he hadn’t expected to use them so soon.
Dong Zixuan and Zhao Dongtao unleashed full firepower. These infected posed no threat and were being slaughtered.
"Zhou Meng, what’s wrong with you? Talk to me!" Su Su clutched the weakened and unconscious Zhou Meng, crying incessantly, "Tang Zheng, please save him!"
Tang Zheng took out an antidote potion and poured it into Zhou Meng’s mouth, but it was completely ineffective; his infection was too severe. His skin sprouted countless roaming bumps, and his body shape altered.
"Let’s go, it’s hopeless!" Dong Zixuan tried to pull Su Su away, but she brushed her off.
"Don’t worry about me. You guys go!" Su Su’s voice was choked with tears. "I want to stay here with him!"
"Zhou Meng wouldn’t want you to do this," Tang Zheng tried to pull Su Su away, but Zhao Dongtao held him back, "Forget about her; we don’t have time. Killing Simpson is paramount."
Tang Zheng didn’t have to choose anymore; half of Zhou Meng’s body suddenly swelled, forming a sac, and then enveloped Su Su inside. Even as a monster, his subconscious still wanted to possess Su Su.
Su Su didn’t struggle, caressing Zhou Meng’s cheek with a contented smile, letting him consume her.
"Let’s go!" Tang Zheng sighed, leading the team away. Behind them, Zhou Meng and Su Su merged into one, forming a new entity of infection.
The tracker’s signal persisted, and though sometimes unstable, it was never lost. The Warhammer Team, with its strong ability-users, encountered gates that ordinary people couldn’t pass through and forcibly dismantled them. After spending fifteen minutes, they finally found Simpson in the control room, casually drinking red wine.
"You actually tracked me down here?" Simpson frowned; he really hadn’t expected these people to survive, especially since the laboratory was in disrepair, and some surveillance equipment had malfunctioned, exposing these vulnerabilities.
Without a word, Tang Zheng commanded six Tyrants to attack Simpson aggressively while everyone else unleashed full firepower, bombarding the area.
"Kill them!" Simpson roared, throwing Eve into the air. The little girl, while mid-air, suddenly mutated, with dozens of tentacles emerging from her abdomen, attacking the Warhammer Team. Her mouth also sprayed a large amount of potent poison.
"Use magma to evaporate that venom!" Tang Zheng used a Tyrant to block the venom, pouring it onto itself, emitting a sizzling corrosive sound and billowing white smoke.
A group of ability-users rounded on Simpson, and there was no doubt about the outcome. The doctor was instantly bisected at the waist by Jing Lan’s Reaper, his viscera scattered everywhere.
"Is this the boss? Too weak!" Rong He exclaimed, spotting a card and a Star Seed falling from his body and rushing over to pick them up, but he also didn’t forget to double-tap, shooting Simpson’s head off.
"Be careful!" Tang Zheng shouted urgently. His friend was being too reckless; he hadn’t yet heard the mission completion hint.
Eve suddenly turned around, shooting out tentacles. Rong He heard Tang Zheng’s warning and dodged an attack, but then the tentacles wrapped around his limbs and neck.
"Quick, save him!" Tang Zheng coughed up blood. Before he could finish, Eve’s tentacles exerted force, tearing the hasty Rong He into five pieces. The newbie was too slow to react; if he had been more capable, he definitely could have saved Rong He.
Eve crawled to Simpson’s side, digging out his heart to swallow into her body. This was his new vessel, hence the need to retrieve Eve, allowing him a second chance at life.
Eve’s back expanded, forming a meat shield that blocked the bombardment. Unfortunately, the firepower of the Warhammer Team was too strong; the Time-space Blackfish, magma, and Reaper struck simultaneously, overwhelming Eve without giving it a chance to fight back.
Three minutes later, the battle was over. Tang Zheng picked up the seed and the card; he suddenly realized that this time, in addition to testing the group leader’s own strength, it also involved uniting the newbies and integrating the team’s strength. If the Warhammer team hadn’t obtained the seed and activated so many abilities, just being able to break through the level in time to find Simpson would have been a challenge. As for the team battle, it was purely a matter of overpowering the opponent with superior numbers and firepower.
"Mission over, teleporting back to the Trojan Room in one minute!" the Trojan announcement sounded, giving the remaining six people a sigh of relief.
"Ada, you better go now, we need to stay here." Watching the special agent, Tang Zheng handed her the Desert Eagle and the Howling Reaper, as these Level A weapons were no longer of use to him.
"Thank you!" Ada, not one to be overly sentimental, knew this man who had saved her life definitely had his own troubles. A smile escaped her lips, and then she suddenly stepped forward and kissed him on the lips.
"See you again!" Ada took off her necklace, stuffed it into Tang Zheng’s pocket, and turned to leave.
The teleportation began, and the survivors’ bodies began to disappear from the room.
"Oh no, I forgot to tell him that the refrigerated container contained the R-virus strain." Ada returned to the room, but seeing no one there, she stood rooted to the spot.
As light returned to his eyes, Tang Zheng found himself reappearing in this fifteen-meter cubic space. The walls around him were still semi-transparent, but whereas there had been silhouettes before entering the game, now several rooms were empty, leaving only two that still had people in them.
"Congratulations to all the group leaders on completing the challenge and securing your ticket to the Holy Land. Additional commendations for the China team and the American team, the former for having the most survivors and the latter for being the strongest, turning over the most teams. Both group leaders will have the chance to win an SSS Grade artifact."
Without looking, Tang Zheng knew the other survivors were uneasy, filled with envy, jealousy, and hatred. An SS-grade premium was ready, something he had never dared to hope for.
"Scoring for the teams begins now!" A virtual screen popped up, displaying the survivors’ avatars.
"Zhou Meng, performed mediocrely, her only strength being obedience, knowing what to do. Score: 800 points, rewarded with one Black Iron Seed, D-level evaluation."
There were no sarcasms or praises, just evaluations straight to the core.
"Jing Lan, a gentle girl who dislikes competition, has a light-hearted nature, likes to care for others. Score: 500 points, rewarded with one Black Iron Seed, D-level evaluation."
Jing Lan felt disappointed; if Rong He hadn’t given her the seed, he wouldn’t have died.
"Tao Ran, strong, courageous, unafraid of death, knows how to give. Besides being taciturn, he is a reliable teammate. Score: 1000 points, rewarded with one Bronze Seed, C-level evaluation."
"Zhao Dongtao, a friend worth having, willing to go through thick and thin, brave and belligerent, Score: 1200 points, rewarded with one Bronze Seed, C-level evaluation."
Zhao Dongtao scratched his hair and slung his arm around Tang Zheng’s shoulder, a bit smug,
"Dong Zixuan, her sense of justice is off the charts, living in an ideal world, yet not shattered by reality. Looking forward to seeing your world-view collapse, Score: 2000 points, rewarded with one Silver Seed, B-level evaluation."
"Who exactly are you?" The policewoman’s professional instinct kicked in as she questioned the Trojan, but unfortunately, it paid her no attention.
"Tang Zheng, from a kind-hearted young man to someone with ulterior motives, though he still adheres to certain moral standards, he has also abandoned many things in order to survive. This is what they call growth. No one can live forever in a happy fairy tale. Life has suffering, whether you trample it underfoot or let it crush you. Whatever the case, always maintain a strong mindset. Score: 5000 points, rewarded with one Star Seed, S-level evaluation."
Hearing Tang Zheng’s score, which was several times higher than others, Zhao Dongtao was full of admiration, even the policewoman was a bit surprised. The data listed on the screen showed the sources of each score, making the policewoman really start to respect him.
"Alright, teleportation begins. For subsequent rewards, you can collect them in your respective team’s Trojan Room."
"Tang Zheng, I have high hopes for you, looking forward to your performance in the Holy Land. But before that, make sure your team is well-prepared, otherwise, you will only serve as stepping stones for others." The Trojan gave Tang Zheng a piece of advice, then fell silent. (To be continued.
