Chapter 1237: Chapter 102 Trembling Witch

A virus-infected flight attendant burst into the cockpit and kissed the co-pilot while laying eggs. The pilot, who was flying the plane, discovered them and, in a panic, tried to flee. Unfortunately, the flight attendant caught him and bit through his neck. Although the plane was on autopilot, in the struggle, the pilot bumped into the control panel, causing the nose of the plane to tilt and crash through the clouds toward the sea.

Tang Zheng saw that the hatch was slightly ajar, knowing the pilot had not escaped unscathed. He pulled the door open to find two zombies crouched on the ground, gnawing at the corpse of the pilot. Worrying about damaging the instruments with gunshots, he charged in, waving the Nepalese curved knife.

The co-pilot’s face was hideous as he began to stand up, only to have his head chopped off by Tang Zheng. Blood sprayed as tentacles burst from the neck at the same time his heart was pierced.

Tang Zheng stirred the knife handle with force and kicked the monster’s stomach, shoving it away. The flight attendant by his side reached for him, her mouth split open, a thick tongue thrashing wildly, flinging foul saliva everywhere.

"Die!" Tang Zheng placed the muzzle against its head and pulled the trigger.

With a bang, the head burst like a rotten watermelon, the skull with a spin hitting the glass. Tang Zheng delivered a follow-up stab, bursting its heart.

The headless corpse lay back. Fearing it might damage the instruments, Tang Zheng grabbed the uniform and yanked it aside. Then he took the pilot’s seat, grabbed the yoke, and pulled back, lifting the nose of the plane.

Dong Zixuan and Ada cleaned up the zombies in the cabin and ran over to see Tang Zheng steadying the situation, and they breathed a sigh of relief.

"How did these zombies appear? It seems it started with the flight attendant’s infection," Ada crouched next to the dead flight attendant, inspecting her body soaked in a pool of blood, her silk stockings soaked through, legs twisted irregularly, displaying a brutal kind of beauty.

"Not sure, but the most troublesome thing now is the landing, right?" Tang Zheng recalled the passengers who had contact with the flight attendant after take-off, about thirty-something people, impossible to pinpoint.

"Aren’t you flying well?" Dong Zixuan didn’t expect Tang Zheng could also pilot a plane and was surprised, "Is there anything you can’t do?"

"Giving birth!" Tang Zheng joked with a low tone, "I’m talking about the zombies in this cabin. Even if the control tower allows us to land, we will probably be quarantined. How do we find Simpson then?"

The newbies who had just survived the crisis also thought of this problem, all wearing serious faces.

Luckily for the autopilot, Tang Zheng, acting as a temporary pilot, wasn’t fatigued. In the meantime, he had contacted air traffic control once, but the control tower was silent, giving no instructions.

The rising sun appeared, and as dawn broke, the airplane entered French airspace. Tang Zheng had been worried about being detected by the control tower, but their silence only increased his worries. Another half-hour passed, and as they were about to fly over Marseille Airport, the unmoving electromagnetic noise from the communicator made it clear there was trouble even to a fool.

"What should we do?" Ada had not encountered this situation before, "How much fuel is left?"

"Only enough for half an hour of flight. We have to land," Tang Zheng saw the airport’s conspicuous control tower and the wide, flat runway. Dozens of planes were parked on it with no one directing them. As the second-largest city in France with an international airport, air traffic control certainly couldn’t make such a mistake.

The newbies pressed against the window, observing the airport, but due to flying at a high altitude, the view was blurry.

"Get back to your seats and fasten your seat belts. I’m going to land," Tang Zheng lowered the altitude, circling and watching the condition of the runway. It was his first time landing a commercial airplane, and he did not dare to be careless. Some runways had planes on them, which Tang Zheng avoided. After ten minutes, he finally picked the most deserted one, then flew half a circle, adjusted the plane in line with the runway, pushed the yoke forward, tilted the nose down, and began to descend.

Ada had over a hundred hours of flying discipline and reluctantly took on the role of co-pilot.

"Can you manage? Otherwise, I’ll take over," Ada didn’t like putting her life in someone else’s hands, and getting anxious as the moment approached, "Put down the landing gear, huh!"

"Stop talking; I need to focus," Tang Zheng had not been foolish enough to forget every single step of landing, and the landing gear had long been dropped.

The altitude decreased rapidly, and the ground objects began to enlarge. Suddenly, Ada shouted, causing him to shake his hand, and the fuselage violently jolted, swaying left and right.

"What are you doing?" sweat appeared on Tang Zheng’s forehead. Although Trojan had given him flying skills, this wasn’t experience. One misstep could crash the plane, and there would be no chance to recover.

"It’s zombies; the airport is overrun with zombies. Now we’re in trouble," Ada realized why the control tower had not responded to their calls, the zombies couldn’t possibly direct.

"It looks like we have encountered a troublesome time," Tang Zheng eyed the runway, the ground quickly approaching in his field of vision, which was an uncomfortable feeling. One lapse in attention, and the nose would bury into the ground like planting radishes.

Tang Zheng didn’t dare breathe heavily, focusing on the instruments, gripping the yoke tightly. With a thud, the landing gear crashed onto the ground, the entire aircraft shaking—an impact that nearly threw Ada off her seat, but she dared not complain for fear of distracting Tang Zheng.

The landing was far from smooth, the fuselage rising and falling, the landing gear hitting the runway repeatedly causing turbulence. The newbies in the cabin were terrified, a pale cast spreading across their cheeks. Some of the girls couldn’t take it and felt queasy, throwing up.

"If it doesn’t work, take off and try again," Ada saw the nose veering off to the right, slipping away from the runway, with the control tower a hundred meters away and quickly reminded Tang Zheng.

"No, there’s no distance for takeoff now," Tang Zheng had originally wanted a safe and comfortable landing but couldn’t be bothered now and became rough.

The airplane, like a wild and untamed stallion throwing a tantrum, managed to swerve away from the control tower with Tang Zheng at the helm. However, it crashed through the glass wall and barreled into the waiting area.

"That was close!" Ada wiped off some cold sweat, "I’m definitely not flying with you again."

"You should be thinking about how to survive instead." Through the glass, Tang Zheng saw that the waiting area was swarming with zombies, wandering in all directions, with occasional light gunshots sounding off, signifying that there were still some lucky survivors.

Tang Zheng unbuckled his seatbelt, grabbed his bags, and made for the cabin.

"Regroup and prepare for combat." As Tang Zheng opened the hatch, the noise from the plane’s landing drew the surrounding zombies towards them, with several special infected posing an even bigger problem.

"Has the city fallen too? Then how are we going to find Simpson?" Rong He stood by the hatch, shooting zombies with his rifle to earn points, since the monsters couldn’t climb up, it was quite safe.

Tang Zheng calculated the safest way to leave while waiting for Zhao Dongtao and his companion to wake up, checking the time, they should be awake by now.

A special infected, hearing the commotion, darted out of the waiting hall and ran towards the airplane. It had several swollen sacs on its back, like a high-pressure spray gun, shooting out a corrosive green liquid that traveled dozens of meters and rained down on the airplane like heavy rain.

Sizzle, the metal-made airplane corroded, creating holes and emitting black smoke.

"Zixuan, kill it," Tang Zheng said as he took out an RPG, landed a hit on the infected’s head, blasting away a chunk of flesh. The policewoman released her ability, sinking it into a pool of magma for incineration.

Kong Licheng and the others, aiming to secure seeds, didn’t hesitate to use up ammunition to focus fire on the infected. The creature truly hit a streak of bad luck, like a traveler parched from half a year in the Sahara desert trying to crawl forward, it exploded before getting anywhere close to the airplane.

The infected was stingy, not even a hair burst forth.

"A black seed just dropped, how should we divide it?" Dong Zixuan broached the inconvenient topic, bringing all the newbies’ gazes sharply toward Tang Zheng, as he was in charge after all.

"We need to find Simpson now, there’s no time to activate it. Let’s divvy it up later tonight when things have settled down; who knows, we might get a few more seeds by then." Tang Zheng used a delaying tactic rather than favoring anyone, as that would displease others.

"When it was Song Xin’s turn, it got activated en route, didn’t it? You can’t show favoritism," Zhou Meng complained, eager to boost his strength in order to protect his girlfriend.

"Fine, I’ll give it to you, but can you guarantee that others will protect you while you’re deep asleep?" Tang Zheng retorted, leaving Zhou Meng speechless since relying on his colleagues was obviously not a viable option given his reputation.

"I’ll help you," Zixuan’s sense of justice was no less than Tang Zheng’s; unable to bear seeing her colleague disheartened, she offered comfort.

"You’re an important combatant though," the traffic policeman reminded, "Stop arguing. Tang Zheng is right; we really don’t have the time to activate abilities."

"I can," Rong He stepped forward, "Tang Zheng, you’d certainly help me out, right? I’ve generously contributed my ammunition gift pack; I deserve a seed, don’t I?"

Faced with the chance to greatly increase their odds of survival, nobody could remain calm.

"Let’s talk about it after we find Simpson. With so many zombies outside, are you planning to have Tang Zheng carry you out? He won’t be fighting, will he?" Jing Lan scoffed, highlighting the triviality of bragging about one’s minor merits as if afraid others wouldn’t recognize the contribution.

"They’re awake, they’re awake," Li Huixin suddenly shouted, interrupting the debate over who gets the seed, as Tao Ran woke up.

"How do you feel? What ability did you get?" Jing Lan asked curiously.

"Floating Cannon, I feel fantastic now!" Zhao Dongtao flexed his arm, striking a bodybuilding pose, and then waved his hand. Ripples appeared in the air beside him as a 120mm smoothbore cannon extended outward.

The newbies envied him beyond words, while Kong Licheng’s eyes reddened with jealousy.

Tao Ran did not keep anyone waiting long, waking up five minutes later. Faced with everyone’s expectant gaze, she announced the name of the ability.

"Trembling Witch!" Black Long Straight felt somewhat embarrassed, thinking the name didn’t suit her.

Tang Zheng frowned, as Tao Ran’s ability obviously looked S-grade, complex to use, whereas Zhao Dongtao’s was an A-grade, common ability, typically for lesser threats. However, he refrained from saying it outright to avoid hurting his friend’s feelings.

Ada watched them, puzzled, not understanding the superpowers. Her resolve to stay by Tang Zheng’s side and find out what was going on solidified. (To be continued.
