Chapter 1167: Chapter 46: Sprinting Ahead (605 monthly tickets, additional release)

The French team leader who first snatched the virus strain had long lost his previous ecstasy, and was going insane. This thing had made him a target for all forces, surrounded and pursued relentlessly. Watching his team members die one by one, he felt he had to quickly find a way out of this predicament.

While some team leaders’ IQs were just average or even slightly below, their rich experience taught them what to do. After tasting the dangers of Trojan’s false orders, everyone had learned to question and successively obtained the correct maps through various channels.

Lebaye, the French team leader, holding an electronic map obtained from the recovery team, confirmed the correct route, and was speeding away in flight.

Tang Zheng was lucky to find a four-wheeled beach car and was driving it at breakneck speed.

Susan clutched the back of Tang Zheng, fearing she’d be thrown off, while Yuliya’s short-haired male companion had also awakened and was holding a gun on alert.

"All units be advised, the target has entered Sector 9, it is predicted they are evacuating the laboratory via Route 7, please intercept, OVER!" the communicator blared the commander’s voice again, sounding very urgent.

"Are they your people?" As they approached a corner, Tang Zheng didn’t slow down at all, yanked the handlebars, and drifted into the hallway with a slide.

A large group of zombies in white lab coats appeared in their field of vision. They had already heard the engine sound and were moving in this direction. The two parties were only seven meters apart; Yuliya could even see the pores on the zombies clogged with plasma.

"You think slowing down gets you killed?" The short-haired man screamed in fright, firing his gun and almost falling off the beach car.

"Be careful." Yuliya grabbed her companion. There was limited space on the beach car and no handrails. After firing a few shots one-handedly and missing all of them, Yuliya pressed down on Tang Zheng’s shoulder and stretched her legs, clamping them around his waist.

"Tang, zombies ahead!" Susan was nothing but a burden, screaming without actually helping, thinking Tang Zheng hadn’t seen the zombies blocking the road.

"Are you insane? Slow down!" Seeing that Tang Zheng’s hand on the throttle was not easing, the short-haired man nearly smacked it with the butt of his gun.

"I see them, cowards." When Tang Zheng drew his handgun with his left hand, they hadn’t even taken down the lead zombie. Without slowing down, they would crash into it in a second.

Bang, Tang Zheng fired, the zombie’s head exploded, it fell backward, the muzzle moved slightly, and the second shot fired, penetrating the eye socket of another, lifting off its skull.

"You shoot the ones in the distance, don’t shoot the same one twice." Tang Zheng’s magazine held 15 bullets, enough to clear the zombies blocking the road.

The short-haired man was stunned by Tang Zheng’s techniques, even forgetting to shoot. As the beach car kept moving at full speed, zombies almost reached them. He could smell their intense stench, but in a blink, their heads were blown off as the beach car charged through, with the zombies not even fully fallen.

Viscous blood, broken flesh, and white brain pulp, like a raging storm, were splattered everywhere.

"Fire, damn it, what are you spacing out for!" Tang Zheng roared.

The short-haired man and Yuliya fired, but the dead bodies of the zombies blocked the way. When the beach car’s tires ran over them, it caused it to jolt, making it impossible to aim. In their frustration, they realized Tang Zheng was still maintaining a high hit rate. Within ten seconds, he had sprinted halfway down the corridor and killed fifteen zombies.

At such close distance and with a handgun, it was hard to miss.

"So cool," the short-haired man couldn’t help but admire, then his face changed. Tang Zheng had run out of bullets, but there were still more than twenty zombies ahead.

"Reload." Tang Zheng handed the handgun to Susan and grabbed the shotgun slung over his shoulder. He lifted his right foot, stepping on the throttle, and as his right hand grasped the gunstock, his left hand also caught the tactical handguard, smoothly cocking it, and the crisp sound of a round being chambered.

Bang, the shotgun blast whistled, and the steel shot instantly blew a zombie’s head apart, scattering its meat against the wall radiantly.

A zombie screamed and rushed to the front of the car. As the short-haired man aimed at it, the shotgun fired, and it was blown away.

The deafening sound of gunfire echoed in their ears, as smoke billowed from the muzzle, slightly acrid.

The short-haired man hadn’t claimed his first spoils of war, and Tang Zheng had emptied the magazine, unleashing a storm of steel shot that mowed down the zombies in front like reaping wheat.

"This guy is insane!" Watching Tang Zheng let go of the Benelli M4 and grab the M4A1 for single shots, the short-haired man exclaimed again. The recoil and jolts made it impossible for him to achieve a sure kill, but the two-shot bursts still prevented the zombies from attacking.

The speed of the car didn’t decrease. Sometimes Tang Zheng was practically shooting zombies point-blank in the face.

The beach car ran over bodies, constantly bouncing, and to keep her balance, Yuliya’s legs, wrapped tightly in leather pants, clamped around Tang Zheng’s waist, her chest frequently bumping against his back.

Yuliya wore thin clothing, and Tang Zheng could feel the smooth touch of her legs, which was starting to excite him.

"Ah!" Susan almost bounced off the beach car, grabbing Tang Zheng’s clothes, causing him, who was about to shoot the zombies ahead, to lose balance.

The zombie hit the front of the car, stretching out its claws, scratching at Tang Zheng’s face, with its wide-open mouth extending to bite his trachea.

"Careful." Yuliya exclaimed in shock, with the short-haired man unable to rescue in time.

Tang Zheng didn’t even bother to dodge. He grabbed the rifle and swung it, opening the zombie’s armature, and then took a swing at its jaw.

There was a snapping sound as the zombie’s jaw dislocated and its neck bone broke, causing its head to droop.

Tang Zheng swung backhand, this time hitting the zombie square in the shoulder, knocking it down. The beach car ran over it as it passed. Since its head wasn’t damaged, the zombie wasn’t dead. Its hands flailed wildly, trying to get up.

"Watch the front." Tang Zheng gripped his rifle again and began to fire single shots.

The short-haired man had barely recovered from his shock when he saw the last zombie’s head explode. The beach car had reached the end of the corridor. Looking back, he saw the scattered corpses of zombies on the ground and the one that hadn’t been killed rising again, its head angled as it pursued.

"You’re really strong, not slowing down at all," the short-haired man had just finished speaking when he leaned over, crashing headfirst into the wall.

Tang Zheng still didn’t slow down, executing another graceful maneuver.

Yuliya was quick to react, grabbing her teammate, but her eyes were fixed on Tang Zheng’s back. Not only was this guy physically strong, but his spirit was even more so. Ordinary people wouldn’t dare engage zombies in close combat, fearing being grabbed and infected, yet he treated it as casually as if he were eating a meal.

"Was it your people who stole the virus strain?" Tang Zheng asked again, this time with a more respectful attitude from the short-haired man.

"Don’t know." The short-haired man admired Tang Zheng, wanting to have his skills. "How did you train?"

"What’s your planned retreat route? Judge based on that," Tang Zheng reminded. "Surely you didn’t come here without a plan, right?"

"Of course not, the route he took is different from the one we planned," Yuliya said without letting go of her legs, feeling the bump beneath her with her calves.

"Help me reload." Tang Zheng handed over his rifle, thinking he should find an opportunity to switch to an assault rifle soon as the powerful impact after gunfire would affect accuracy.

All the teams were moving toward zone nine. The recovery team was too green, contributing too many communicators due to the superiors’ order to annihilate all enemies entering the laboratory. So they hadn’t changed the frequency, intending to draw more people into the melee, but some secrets were transmitted through codes and frequencies known only to them.

Tang Zheng didn’t hear any important information on the communicator, indicating the other party had taken measures and the function of the communicators had been diminished.

The human crowd was thickest in zone nine. Within three minutes of his entry, Tang Zheng encountered a recovery team reduced to five members in a corridor.

"Enemy attack!" A guard with a gas mask had just raised his rifle when a bullet pierced his right face, sending his corpse to the ground.

"Jump out, suppressive fire," Tang Zheng commanded swiftly. This time he didn’t dare to charge through blindly. After killing a poor sod with a preemptive shot, he slammed on the brakes, using the car as a shelter in front of him.

The ding-dong sound of two hand grenades being thrown into the corridor by the recovery team followed.

The situation was extremely unfavorable for Tang Zheng’s side, being trapped in a corridor with no way out, while the opponents were at a junction that allowed them to attack or defend readily.

"Let’s retreat, we can’t take them," said the short-haired man, who could hardly poke his head out, extending only his gun out of shelter and firing at the other side, who had a general-purpose machine gun continually spewing barrages.

Bullets flew wildly, striking the alloy walls, causing a chaotic ricochet that scared Susan into hugging her head and pressing her body to the ground.

"Let’s retreat, I’ve got a smoke bomb," said Tang Zheng, not wanting to take risks. This kind of head-on confrontation was pointless and would only minimize his advantages.

With the enemies’ fire suppression, even Tang Zheng didn’t dare to expose himself or try to duck into the rooms on each side; that would only result in being trapped.

Tang Zheng was about to throw the smoke bomb, but screams came from the other side. They were being attacked by three Lickers. The presence of many humans naturally attracted them, especially with the gunfire guiding them.

One Licker, nimble like a gecko, was rapidly crawling along the ceiling toward Tang Zheng’s dead man.

"Our help has arrived," Yuliya cheered, focusing on the Licker and establishing contact with it through brainwave induction. In less than ten seconds, she had successfully taken control.

The Licker turned and attacked the recovery team.

"How did you control it?" Susan asked in amazement.

"After the injection of the potion, it creates a kind of brainwave induction with the Licker, through which simple commands can be issued," Yuliya replied, as the Licker tore through those people, now feasting on their corpses, a task that wouldn’t normally distract her attention.

"What if two people try to control a Licker at the same time? What happens?" Tang Zheng’s thinking was always meticulous. Watching the Lickers lay beside them like pet dogs, showing affection toward Yuliya, he asked another question.

"That will disrupt the brainwaves, and no one would be able to control it," Yuliya picked up a rifle and handed it to Tang Zheng, "Your gun might have a problem."
