Chapter 1143: Chapter 27: Grudges and Death_2

"Move aside, I’ll go by myself." Zhao Dongtao broke free from everyone and walked out of the house, needing some time alone.

Tang Zheng let go of Cao Rongxuan, who squatted on the ground, gasping in pain and unable to straighten his back.

This commotion made the atmosphere in the living room awkward for a moment, and no one mentioned the matter of volunteers again.

"Stop playing the good guy, always rushing forward without thinking about yourself." Song Xin walked up to Tang Zheng, pulled on his sleeve, and whispered her advice.

After more than four years, Tang Zheng and Song Xin were standing together again. The youthfulness of their squad leader hadn’t completely faded, but with age, she seemed like a bud waiting to bloom, adding an innocent aura, and her pale, delicate face still bore that familiar sweet smile.

Faced with Tang Zheng’s stare, Song Xin’s cheeks turned red, and she lowered her head.

"Everyone’s grown up, huh!" Tang Zheng’s gaze swept over his middle school classmate’s face, familiar yet strange.

There wasn’t time for reminiscing, as Dong Zixuan was about to get Tang Zheng to come up with a plan when the Trojan announcement rang out.

"Because a volunteer hasn’t been chosen within ten minutes, Trojan will randomly select fifteen survivors to form a team and head to the pharmaceutical factory to seize the virus strain."

During the silent ten seconds, the newbies hardly dared to breathe, as if waiting for a verdict.

Tang Zheng glanced at his wristwatch terminal, which displayed a blue smiling face, accompanied by the Chinese characters for "lucky."

"Selection time is over. Please, survivors with a black crying face displayed on your wristwatch, step forward. You will carry out this mission. In ten seconds, the mission begins."

Everyone hurried to check their wristwatches, those not selected breathed a sigh of relief, while some faces turned ashen.

"Why me?" The policewoman Hu Liwen cried out, feeling helpless.

Tang Zheng looked towards Tao Ran and Song Xin, whose expressions hadn’t changed; they had clearly dodged a bullet, which reassured him.

"Who’s been selected? Come out, let’s formulate a plan," Dong Zixuan clapped her hands, proposing once again.

Li Wenbo hesitated for a moment and remained silent; his wristwatch showed a smiling face, while Kong Licheng was frustrated, showing a crying face.

"It’s all fate!" Liu Binshi sighed and stepped forward, followed by Li Xizhu and a miner named Gao Ming, a big, strong man.

"Tang Zheng, what do we do?" Wen Xiao, very frightened, approached Tang Zheng. Four of their middle school classmates had been selected, three males and one female, the others were Liu Miao, Zheng Sheng, and Li Yumiao, who didn’t look reliable at all. Wen Xiao could only seek help from Tang Zheng.

"Don’t worry, I’m here," Tang Zheng comforted Wen Xiao while he selected firearms and arranged tasks, "Those who’ve been selected, gather here, eat something to fill your stomachs first."

"Only thirteen, who else?" Uncle Wang frowned, "Don’t make me check your wristwatches."

The tall man and Li Zhilian stepped forward, cursing; they had hoped to conceal themselves, and two others were about to step forward, but counting the numbers, they realized they now had fifteen people, and immediately, their faces lit up with relief, and they stopped in their tracks.

"Since you are not participating voluntarily, we will only provide maps, and the number of people has also been increased to fifteen, the initially offered equipment will be retracted," Trojan announced again, "Please set off quickly."

"Stop dragging your feet, eat while walking," Tang Zheng muttered about his bad luck and was about to leave, but Song Xin stopped him.

"Ha, Tang Zheng, you finally have this day too," Cao Rongxuan, who hadn’t been selected, was happy seeing Tang Zheng’s misfortune; as their relationship had already turned sour, there was nothing left to hide.

Tang Zheng ignored him and was strapping the straight knife to his thigh.

"Let me see your wristwatch." Song Xin knew Tang Zheng’s character, too kind-hearted; she had just seen a woman take a couple of steps back, which made her suspicious.

"No need, stick with everyone, don’t go off alone," Tang Zheng comforted her, and attempted to brush her off, but Song Xingrabbbed him tightly.

"No, I must see, you have a smiling face right? You’ve always been like this, but this time, people will really die," Song Xin cried, tugging at Tang Zheng’s arm.

"Dong Tao, Jing Lan, take care of her. Tao Ran, be careful. Uncle Wang, I’m leaving this place in your hands. Don’t let any trouble happen before I get back," Tang Zheng freed his wrist from Song Xin’s grip, which felt very cold.

"Don’t worry, I’m not that useless yet; I can handle things here. You guys, be extra careful," Uncle Wang watched Dong Zixuan, reminding once more.

"Let’s go!" Tang Zheng led the way, charging out of the living room.

The selected newbies had no choice but to follow bravely, planning to assess the situation first; if things looked bad, they could always turn around and run.

"It’s you, isn’t it? You’re definitely the crying face, why aren’t you going out?" Song Xin suddenly ran towards the long-haired woman, accusing her.

"It’s not me, stop talking nonsense," the woman pushed Song Xin away.

Uncle Wang frowned, an experienced policeman, he could tell from the woman’s evasive eyes that Song Xin was right.

"Stick close to me, don’t fall behind, and when you see zombies, don’t panic or fire randomly," Tang Zheng carried a backpack and held a G36C assault rifle equipped with a drum magazine, advancing quickly through the corridor.

Dong Zixuan followed behind, carrying a Benelli shotgun and holding an M4A1, her tactical movements very precise, followed further by Kong Licheng.

When they reached the third floor, Tang Zheng saw the first zombie, a wandering female waiter. Her upper professional outfit was torn by other zombies, exposing her belly button and underwear, covered in blood; her lower half’s silk stockings had several large holes, and her high-heels were nowhere to be seen.
