Chapter 1141: 26 Chapter Mother and Son Death and New Mission (Three More)
Tang Zheng tore the sheet into strips, tied up the woman, walked out of the bedroom, and casually closed the door behind him.
"Without you, I really don’t know what I would do." Liu Man complimented Tang Zheng with a smile, "If it weren’t for you, most of those people would have died, but they’re still ungrateful, such scum."
"Don’t you want to practice shooting?" Tang Zheng had just sat down on the sofa when Liu Man squeezed over and threw herself onto him.
"I’m so afraid, are we going to die?" Liu Man was half scared and half pretending, trying to gain sympathy and also using the word ’we’ to plant a subconscious thought in Tang Zheng’s mind.
Watching Liu Man try to kiss his mouth, Tang Zheng put out his hand, blocking it in front of her lips.
"Since we’re going to die anyway, might as well go crazy." Liu Man’s words didn’t match her heart’s intention, which was to seduce Tang Zheng with her body. She licked his hand and reached toward his lower body, groping him briefly before starting to undo his belt.
"Enough." Tang Zheng pushed with force, flipping Liu Man over, but since she was holding onto his clothes, he was also dragged down, landing on top of her.
"I like you." Liu Man clung to Tang Zheng’s head, pressing it against her chest, her legs also wrapping around his thighs, not letting him leave.
A rich scent of perfume drilled straight into his nose.
Liu Man wished she could grind Tang Zheng into her body.
"Damn it." Tang Zheng, whose physical strength had greatly diminished, couldn’t break free immediately, which infuriated him. Not holding back, he grabbed Liu Man’s chest and squeezed hard.
"That feels good, I like your roughness." Liu Man screamed, seeming crazy.
"Get off." Tang Zheng was truly angry, but he still didn’t hit a woman, he grabbed her wrist, broke free and stood up.
Liu Man, undeterred, clung to Tang Zheng’s leg and pressed her head against his lower body, sticking out her tongue to lick him.
"Be careful not to get infected with the virus." Tang Zheng’s words made Liu Man freeze in the act, instinctively spitting out a mouthful of saliva.
"If you keep acting crazy, you can get lost. I won’t help you anymore." Tang Zheng didn’t want to discard such an obedient cannon fodder, though getting in bed with her would make her even more devoted, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
"Will you really help me?" Liu Man looked at Tang Zheng with anticipation, "I’ll do anything you say, I want to survive."
"Get up, go sit over there." Tang Zheng took out a bottle of mineral water, poured some, and washed his face, trying to sober up.
Liu Man was about to say some flattering words when the door was smashed open.
"Tang Zheng, are you okay? Did that woman turn into a zombie?" Zhao Dongtao heard Liu Man’s scream and thought she might have become zombified, so he hurried over.
"No." Tang Zheng replied and glared at Liu Man, "Go open the door."
It wasn’t just Zhao Dongtao who came in; Dong Zixuan and Song Xin also entered, while Tao Ran lingered at the door. Seeing that Tang Zheng was fine, she prepared to leave.
"Tao Ran, come here." Tang Zheng was worrying about finding a reason to call them over, and seeing her now, he naturally wouldn’t allow her to leave.
Song Xin’s gaze immediately fixed on Tao Ran. Pretending not to hear, she tried to leave, but Dong Zixuan held her back.
"We’re so thirsty we don’t have water to drink, and you’re using it to wash your face?" Dong Zixuan saw the water on Tang Zheng’s face and complained.
"Help yourself to whatever you want to eat." Tang Zheng picked up a bottle of water and tossed it over.
"You’re well prepared." Dong Zixuan didn’t stand on ceremony, expertly taking out a folding knife and puncturing a can of tuna, "Where’s that woman?"
"In the bedroom." Tang Zheng took out the map, studying the terrain.
"Are you okay? I heard a scream just now." Zhang Antai found an excuse to come in, followed by eight newcomers. Seeing them eating, he swallowed his saliva.
These people didn’t want to stay with Liu Binshi; it was too dangerous, and they felt safer with Tang Zheng.
"You should go back. That Li Wenbo is so annoying, he’s riling everyone up to follow his lead now." Qin San, a thin man, was very talkative. As soon as he entered, he reported, trying to curry favor with Tang Zheng.
"Pfft, with that dickhead Li Wenbo?" Zhao Dongtao was quite disdainful.
"Hey, the next room isn’t safe. Two people just had a fight, one named Zhuo Yijie, he seems like a misanthropic murderer." Zhang Antai didn’t ask for food, but sat near the backpack. By etiquette, Tang Zheng should offer something polite, but he didn’t hear it.
Tang Zheng clearly understood Zhang Antai’s intention, looking at him meaningfully without saying a word.
"Bro, I’ll definitely listen to you. Those people are too stupid, they haven’t seen through yet, only by following you is there a way out," Zhang Antai knew he was seen through by Tang Zheng, but his thick skin, developed over time, showed no shame, "I’ll try to persuade them."
Dong Zixuan rolled her eyes at Zhang Antai.
"Help yourself to whatever you want," Tang Zheng was pleased with the response. Zhang Antai, an old hand, was quite good at manipulating people’s hearts; he needed someone like him to help gather support.
"One bottle of water is enough." Zhang Antai never thought about being the group leader. He knew his own limitations. Helping Tang Zheng was also helping himself; it was enough to have a higher status than ordinary people.
"Li Wenbo, Cao Rong Xuan, don’t blame me; you were just too pathetic," Zhang Antai chose a side. His previous ambivalence was just him biding time, too bad that the two most promising individuals had no power to retaliate in front of Tang Zheng—they were utter trash.
While the group was eating, five newbies found excuses to come in, and then, intermittently, over thirty people entered in less than ten minutes.
"Hehe, I’m sure Li Wenbo’s face is green with anger," said Zhao Dong Tao proudly. More people meant Tang Zheng’s status was more secure, but the atmosphere instantly became tense when Liu Bin Shi walked in with the miners.
Liu Bin Shi scratched his head awkwardly, not saying anything, and prepared to leave.
"Wait, sit with us," Tang Zheng called out to Liu Bin Shi. The miners were in good shape; with some training, they could become a formidable force.
Once Tang Zheng spoke, no one dared to object.
"Don’t worry; I reckon we should be more resistant than the natives. If drinking water turned us into zombies, that would be a huge loss," Tang Zheng guessed. After all, the woman who was bitten hadn’t turned yet. But the next moment, a sudden hoarse roar caught everyone off guard, their faces turned pale as they stared at the bedroom.
"Mom, what’s happening to you?" The boy’s cries struck everyone’s eardrums.
Tang Zheng pulled out his handgun and rushed to the bedroom door. Upon opening it, he saw the tied-up woman had transformed into a zombie, completely out of her mind, growling and struggling to devour her own son.
"Please, don’t shoot," the boy begged Tang Zheng, sobbing and blocking his way.
Tang Zheng sighed, closed the door, and stepped back out.
"What about the boy?" Dong Zixuan furrowed her brows while the others once again kept their distance from the miners, Liu Bin Shi’s face turning ashen, his hands starting to tremble.
"Take him with us," Tang Zheng wouldn’t abandon the boy; he couldn’t be so heartless.
"I’ll help you look after him," Dong Zixuan nodded, appreciating Tang Zheng’s decision.
"We can’t just let the woman keep screaming, can we? Shall we move to another room?" Zhang Antai barely finished his suggestion when a gunshot rang out, and the zombie’s roar abruptly stopped.
"Did the boy fire the gun?" Dong Zixuan froze for a moment, then moved toward the room, but after two steps, another shot sounded. She hadn’t realized what was happening, but Tang Zheng’s face changed instantly, and he lunged back toward the bedroom.
"Right, the boy would never double-tap his mother!" Dong Zixuan came to a realization and then saw the boy with blood flowing from his chest, burying his head in his mother’s arms, caressing her cheek.
"Mom, we’ll never be apart," the boy coughed out blood and then stopped breathing.
"It’s my fault, I should have thought of this," Dong Zixuan blamed herself upon seeing the boy’s death. His mother had a bullet hole in her forehead, shot by the boy.
The woman had told her son to kill her if she turned into a zombie, not just to avoid becoming a monster, but also to toughen up her son’s courage. She hadn’t anticipated that after firing, he would commit suicide to join her.
Some newbies stayed outside the door, and when they saw there was no issue, they took the chance to come in, and the living room was nearly full in no time.
Li Wenbo stared at the deserted living room, almost furious to death, while Kong Licheng just shrugged his shoulders and left.
"Let’s go over too," Xiao Hu suggested, "Li Ge, don’t fight it, they are really strong."
"What defeatist thing to say; I’m doing this for everyone," Li Wenbo didn’t want to give up, pondering how to regain the initiative.
The woman, who lost her son during the teleportation, saw the mother and son dead together and collapsed to the ground, nearly heartbroken with guilt, crying out loud. She then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her head.
"Long Long, mommy is so sorry." Bang, the woman called out and then, fired the gun; her body fell to the side.
"Don’t..." Dong Zixuan tried to stop her but was a moment too late.
"For her, this might be a good outcome; at least she doesn’t have to struggle to live anymore. Remember to close the room door," Tang Zheng said as he returned to the living room. Now, there was only one old man left, and four children, but since all their parents were present, they would surely fight fiercely to protect their kids.
"Don’t cry, have some food," Tang Zheng took out some chocolate and handed it to the children.
"We can’t just sit around, right? What should we do?" Uncle Wang broke the oppressive silence.
Tang Zheng didn’t respond as Trojan’s announcement sounded.
"Please select ten volunteers to proceed to the Pharmaceutical factory and retrieve the R-virus strains. Until successful, no team shall leave Chicago, or else punishment by erasure will be applied."
"I’ll go," Dong Zixuan stood up, and then no one else followed. Even Kong Licheng, despite his strength, didn’t want to get involved.
"We still need eight more," Tang Zheng’s gaze swept across the people; they avoided eye contact with him, looking away.
"I’ll go," Tao Ran wanted to be with Tang Zheng and help him.
"You’re not suitable; if you went, you’d be killed," Tang Zheng rejected and looked at Li Wenbo, "Officer, this is your chance to shine."
"What the hell, do you think I’m not dying fast enough?" Li Wenbo’s blood boiled with indignation, his face flushing red, "I’m going all in. Kong Licheng, do you have the guts to join me?"
