Chapter 1124: Chapter 9: Dinner Conflict

"I’m not that bored." Tang Zheng’s tone was also somewhat cold, "My classmate has already filed a report, could it be fake?"

"Sending out fifty thousand yuan with such a justification, you’re definitely not getting it back. Are you sure about this?" Dong Zixuan finished saying and thought of another question, "Didn’t you drop out of school? What kind of job do you have now? Why do you have so much savings?"

"Don’t I have the right to privacy?" Tang Zheng finally realized how troublesome a suspicious policewoman could be. He somewhat regretted asking for her help and diverted the topic, "Your husband is going to have a tough time in the future!"

"What do you mean?" Dong Zixuan slammed her hand on the table, completely unaware that she had fallen for it.

"If he comes home a minute late or spends an extra yuan, I bet you’d investigate him thoroughly." Tang Zheng fought back just as aggressively.

"My husband will surely love me very much, and he won’t hide anything from me," Dong Zixuan was certain of this.

"Isn’t the subtext of your words that you would investigate him?" Tang Zheng’s comment made the policewoman speechless, "Alright, are you going to help or not?"

"I’ll help, but just to be clear, if you give him fifty thousand yuan, we will close the case here. Even if we catch the gangster later on, don’t think of getting it back," Dong Zixuan couldn’t win the argument with Tang Zheng, so she decided to make him pay.

"Okay." Even if he lost a million, Tang Zheng wouldn’t mind.

"I want a feast for lunch, and you’re treating!" Hearing the unflappable tone in Tang Zheng’s voice, the policewoman was furious. She felt compelled to eat back her losses fiercely. She sensed that this young man had many secrets and seemed reluctant to deal with the police.

"Sure, you pick the place."

After hanging up the phone, Dong Zixuan looked at Tang Zheng’s file on the computer and bit her lip, "I will definitely unearth your secrets."

"Zixuan, let’s have lunch together?" Li Wenbo found the policewoman and invited her very courteously, "There’s a new Anhui cuisine restaurant that opened recently, shall we try it?"

"No thanks, I have plans. Sister Zhao, I have something to do, I’m leaving now, okay?" Dong Zixuan grabbed her handbag and hastily left.

Sister Zhao knew the policewoman’s identity and naturally wouldn’t stop her.

"Who did she have an appointment with?" Li Wenbo stared at the policewoman’s buttocks, which were tightly wrapped by the police uniform, his face alternating between light and dark.

"It seems to be the young man who saved her at the subway station." Even though Li Wenbo was impolite, Sister Zhao dared not offend him.

Crack, Li Wenbo crushed the water-based pen in his hand, wishing he could tear Tang Zheng apart.

Tang Zheng, awaiting Dong Zixuan at the police station entrance, started to ’enjoy’ her relentless questioning.

"That Porsche isn’t bad, eh? A young man like you driving a car worth over a million yuan, are you a successful person? But I haven’t seen you accomplish anything remarkable?" Dong Zixuan, vexed by the loss of her first kiss whenever she saw Tang Zheng, was somewhat relieved that at least Tang Zheng wasn’t bad looking, which spared her the nausea; otherwise, she would have found a reason to trouble him long ago.

"The money is in the bag in the back, take it and later hand it to my classmate," Tang Zheng said, ignoring the policewoman’s incessant babble.

"Don’t give me any excuses like winning the lottery; I’ve checked and your name isn’t on the recent winners." Dong Zixuan kneeled on the passenger seat, leaning towards the back to grab the handbag—the action stretching her waist and buttocks, creating beautiful lines.

"Couldn’t I have bought it in another city?" Tang Zheng retorted, his eyes sweeping over the rearview mirror which just happened to reflect the policewoman’s buttocks. Objectively speaking, Dong Zixuan was beautiful, with a tall figure, and her in a police uniform was bound to turn heads on the main street.

"Hmph, making excuses, and you seem to be driving without a license, which means you’re driving illegally." The policewoman opened the handbag, saw there were ten stacks of Soft Girl Currency, and frowned, "There’s an extra fifty thousand."

"That’s for your troubles," Tang Zheng replied, as he couldn’t let her come all this way for nothing.

"Go to hell, stop the car, I’m not going," Dong Zixuan threw the handbag at Tang Zheng and tried to get out of the car, feeling insulted.

"What are you going crazy about?" Tang Zheng was annoyed, "Do you always break your word?"

"Fine, after this meal, we’re strangers," Dong Zixuan rested her chin on her hand, no longer paying attention to Tang Zheng. She had thought he was an upright guy, but now discovered he also gave bribes, which she detested the most.

"Making a fuss about nothing." Tang Zheng found that almost every woman he knew was completely subservient to him, afraid of displeasing him. This one was different, always starting an argument upon meeting.

At noon, in front of Fu Xin Restaurant, Xiu Yingjie had arrived early in a taxi, waiting anxiously until he saw Tang Zheng appear, calming down a bit, only to get nervous again upon noticing a beautiful policewoman accompanying him.

"Yingjie, come on, thank Officer Dong. Your money has been found," Tang Zheng saw the policewoman’s reluctant demeanor and glared at her.

"Thank you, Officer Dong. You really are our saviors. If the money didn’t come back, I would have had to jump off a building," Xiu Yingjie’s gaze fell instantly on the handbag in Dong Zixuan’s hands, his eyes so intense they seemed to penetrate, his breathing becoming heavy.

"It’s just... a small favor," the policewoman stammered, her cheeks turning red. She wasn’t good at lying, and his words had made her feel ashamed, especially since they hadn’t really recovered the payment.

"Let’s go, time for dinner." Seeing the policewoman embarrassed, Tang Zheng was quite pleased.

"Right, dinner, and it’s on me this time—no one fight me for the bill." With money in hand, Xiu Yingjie was back in high spirits, full of vigor.

In the private room, Xiu Yingjie kept urging drinks on everyone, but the policewoman declined each time. He wasn’t upset, though, and comfortably chatted with her, making all sorts of amusing comments.

The policewoman smiled in response, managing courteously, but her gaze kept flickering towards Tang Zheng, who sat as composed as if he were fishing. She wished she could peel off a layer of his skin. Relieved when Xiu Yingjie went to the toilet, she finally let out a breath.

"This meal is such torture." The policewoman leaned back in her chair, breathing a sigh of relief. "Looking at your relationship, you’re just ordinary classmates. Why would you go to such lengths for him? Fifty thousand isn’t a small sum for ordinary people."

Through the previous conversation, Dong Zixuan had also gathered insight into their relationship. Even the closest of middle school classmates could drift apart over nearly five years.

"That’s my business," Tang Zheng declined to answer.

"Hmph, luckily, you didn’t lie to me. Otherwise, I would make sure you regret it," the policewoman retorted, picking up a teacup and taking a sip. Tang Zheng’s loyalty had greatly improved her opinion of him, though she couldn’t help but think him a fool.

Tang Zheng remained silent, and the policewoman had her pride, too, never one to initiate small talk. Thus the atmosphere in the private room grew tense and awkward, silenced until a waiter suddenly burst through the door, breathless and exclaiming,

"The guy who was with you all is about to get beaten to death!"

"What?" Tang Zheng sprang to his feet and ran out.

"What’s going on?" Dong Zixuan’s eyebrows shot up, and she gave the waiter a piercing look, her police uniform lending her an air of authority.

Xiu Yingjie didn’t want Tang Zheng to have to cover the bill after all the trouble he’d caused, so he’d excused himself to go to the toilet and left to settle the bill. On his way back upstairs, he bumped into a bald middle-aged man. He apologized, but the man was not satisfied, became furious, cursed, and slapped Xiu Yingjie across the cheek.

"I’m sorry!" In a foreign city, Xiu Yingjie didn’t want to cause trouble. However, his demeanor only seemed to make the bald man think he was meek and easy to bully, becoming even more aggressive and kicking him in the stomach.

"Where did this trash come from, walking around blindly?" Boss Wu, who had drunk some liquor, was annoyed for not having gotten his way with the accompanying Li Huiwen. When someone bumped into him, he took out his frustration on them. Also, it was a show of force to impress Li Huiwen.

"Boss Wu, it’s just a small matter, don’t let it spoil your health," Liu Man said with a beaming smile, little caring about the unlucky person who had been struck. To her, he clearly looked like an ordinary person struggling at the bottom, but pleasing Boss Wu could mean securing a business deal worth three million. Eager to close the deal and knowing payment was imminent, she was anxious.

"How can I not be angry? People nowadays have no manners at all and don’t know how to respect their elders. I’ve eaten more salt than you’ve eaten rice." Boss Wu, belching from the alcohol, cursed loudly and wasn’t yet satisfied. He walked over to Xiu Yingjie and kicked him several more times.

"Old bastard," Li Huiwen thought to herself, knowing the crux of his complaints was a thwarted desire for her to sleep with him.

"Huiwen, come on, help Boss Wu so he doesn’t fall," Liu Man shot Li Huiwen a glare. Boss Wu might be unpleasant, but he had money.

Li Huiwen reluctantly supported Boss Wu’s arm, but then he reached out and groped her chest.

"Still want that bonus?" Li Huiwen knew if she dodged, she could kiss her bonus goodbye for the month, but she couldn’t stand the harassment. As she hesitated, a familiar voice reached her ears.

"What’s going on?" Tang Zheng rushed over, grabbed the bald man by the back collar, and dragged him aside. This man was cursing up a storm—clearly the instigator.

"Is it you?" Li Huiwen brushed off Boss Wu’s hand, her face showing delight.

"Tang Zheng?" Liu Man looked overjoyed, completely forgetting about Boss Wu as she moved toward Tang Zheng, "It’s been so long since I’ve seen you."

"Little trash, that woman can’t keep her pants on, so she flaunts what’s peeking out," Boss Wu shouted, seeing his chance to cop a feel on a woman being spoiled by this upstart. "Let go of me! Do you know who I am?"

Tang Zheng said nothing, his arm muscles tensed, and he slammed the bald man hard against the wall, then grabbed his hair and smashed his cheek against the wall.

Bang, Boss Wu’s nose broke, and blood splattered on the wall.

"Tang Zheng, I’m okay, stop hitting him," Xiu Yingjie got up from the ground. He was both moved and worried by Tang Zheng’s intervention; the other party clearly was an influential figure, and not someone he could afford to provoke.

"Kid, do you know who I am?" Boss Wu roared, but before he could finish, he felt even more hair being ripped from his scalp and the wall rushed up toward him—bang, another blow.

Tang Zheng paid no attention to anyone’s explanations. Even if Xiu Yingjie was at fault, what did it matter? As a Conqueror, he couldn’t bear not punching someone who deserved it—that would be a wasted title.

Boss Wu also had a department manager with him. Seeing his boss getting hit, the manager had no choice but to rush forward and try to intervene—only to be kicked in the stomach by Tang Zheng and fall flat on the ground. (To be continued.
