Chapter 531: Section 318: The Escape of the Assassin
Snowbird Port, slum area.
A mysterious assassin was dining.
He was now inside a civilian house.
On the surface, this house looked no different from the surrounding buildings, unremarkable. But in reality, it was heavily guarded.
After all, it was one of the landing spots of the mysterious assassin.
Leaving aside the complex mechanisms and traps, the defense here mainly consisted of three layers.
The first layer of defense was a magic potion illusion maze.
The potion was smeared all over the inner walls of the house.
Most people who broke into this slum, even if they wandered around searching, would find this to be a very ordinary house, evidently devoid of any property, clearly poor and empty.
Even if the mysterious assassin was nearby, they wouldn’t be able to detect him.
The second layer was a candle lit on the dining table.
This candle was creamy white, as thick as a baby’s arm, and stood 10 centimeters tall, burning quietly.
The candlelight was pure white.
The light shone around, faintly forming patches of mirrors.
This was the Mirror Light Candle, a holy object.
It came from the Mirror God.
The Mirror God was a deity of the dwarf race, and the mysterious assassin was also one of His general believers, having obtained this holy object through the church.
When the Mirror Light Candle burned, it emitted reflecting light.
Within the range of the reflecting light, any external strike would be reflected back.
The formidable aspect of the reflecting light was that, no matter what the nature of the external strike was, it could be reflected—whether combat skill, magic spell, or even Divine Arts, all were effective. Of course, the specific effectiveness depended on the particular circumstances.
The third layer of defense was a defense magic array buried underground by the mysterious assassin.
Although the mysterious assassin was not a mage, he did have some basis in alchemy.
This defense magic array was of course not arranged by him personally, but was constructed on a set of array map plates.
This set of array map plates, though only of Silver Level—much smaller and much lighter than what the dragon-man youth obtained from the City Lord of Snowbird Port—was much more portable.
The third layer of defense primarily protected against attacks from underground.
Of course, if an enemy broke through the first two layers of defense, and the mysterious assassin fully activated this defense magic array, it could also provide him with defense on the ground.
Under the candlelight, the mysterious assassin comfortably enjoyed a delicious dinner.
The number of dishes in the dinner was not many, but they were all very exquisite.
Clearly, the skills of the Magic Chef who made them were extraordinary, not the usual kind.
The mysterious assassin was at ease.
The defenses in the room provided him with a sense of security.
But the main source of his confidence was his own strength.
It wasn’t that he was confident in taking on a thousand foes by himself, but if a formidable foe attacked, the mysterious assassin would immediately withdraw, abandoning this hiding spot.
This was just one of his landing points, no pity in abandoning it.
With his Golden Level strength, there were only four people in the entire Snowbird Port who could match him.
Moreover, he was not alone in Snowbird Port.
The mysterious assassin beautifully sipped a small mouthful of wine, then set down the wine glass.
He leaned back in his chair and pulled out three Golden Level darts from his chest.
This set of darts was exactly what he had stolen from the Triangular Love Ship.
The three darts continuously flipped between his fingers, obediently falling into the gaps between his fingers.
The sharp dart blades caused him no harm whatsoever, the mysterious assassin’s entire movement was fluid, as if these were not fierce darts but coins or marbles.
Suddenly, the mysterious assassin flicked a finger.
A dart whirred out.
After flying half a meter, a returning force caused it to fly back to its starting point.
The mysterious assassin continued to manipulate the remaining two darts in his hands and made no extra movements to intercept.
The returning dart, however, precisely shot into the gap between his pinky and ring finger.
Then, in the next moment, together with the other two, it continued to flip incessantly between the fingers of the assassin.
From this alone, it was evident: the mysterious assassin’s prowess in hidden weapons was extraordinary.
Because in this process, he neither used any Fighting Energy nor employed any kind of spirit control methods. This was purely his throwing skill!
Of the three Golden Level pieces of equipment that the mysterious assassin had stolen, his favorite was this set of darts.
The darts kept flipping in his hand.
Meanwhile, the other two pieces of Golden Level equipment—a longbow and a harpoon—were directly placed at his feet.
The contrast between the two was extremely stark.
As he manipulated the darts, the mysterious assassin recalled his recent actions.
He was quite satisfied with the assassination heist at the dock.
Assassinating two mages was nothing to boast about for him.
As a Golden Level assassin, killing one or two mages not even of Silver Level was an inevitable success.
The records of the mysterious assassin far exceeded this.
What pleased him most was the substantial gains from this time.
His storage bag with him was already filled with various alchemy materials.
The three Golden Level pieces of equipment couldn’t be stored in the storage bag and had to be carried with him. They were the most valuable part of this haul.
Even with the experience of the mysterious assassin, it was not common to steal so much in one action.
“Golden Level equipment was actually not stored in a treasure box.”
“If all my opponents were like the Dragon Lion Mercenary Group in the future, my life would be much better.”
“Now, they must be terrified all day long, haha.”
The mysterious assassin smiled smugly.
He was about to drink some more wine when suddenly, he felt a strong premonition in his heart, and his pupils shrank to the size of needlepoints.
A powerful blast of Fire Magic descended from the sky, striking precisely the commoner’s house where he was hiding.
The flames were intense, quickly burning through the walls.
The raging inferno spread, filling the assassin’s view.
The Magic Potion, serving as the first layer of defense, melted and evaporated quickly under the scorching flames, offering no protection at all.
The flames surrounded the mysterious assassin from all directions and closed in, trapping him.
This onslaught triggered the effect of the Mirror Light Candle.
The reflected light formed multiple mirrors within the flames.
These mirrors supported each other, creating a large protective barrier.
But this barrier lasted only slightly over a second before it completely collapsed.
The white candle, originally as thick as an infant’s arm and 10 centimeters tall, had burned out in just over a second.
The mysterious assassin’s face grew tense, “Golden Level Fire Magic! Beyond the limit of the Mirror Light Candle.”
This Holy Object was only of the Silver Level.
Nevertheless, it had played a significant role.
Under the reflected light, a portion of the Golden Level Fire Magic reflected back, creating internal consumption and neutralizing each other, significantly reducing its power and momentum.
However, in the next moment,
the color of the fire shifted from orange-red to white.
The temperature of the air dropped sharply.
In an instant, the mysterious assassin felt as though he had teleported from an erupting volcano to a cave of thousand-year-old ice.
Crack, crack…
The bone-chilling cold burst forth, swiftly covering the ground with a layer of frost.
The Fire Magic had transformed into Ice Magic.
The latter was also immensely powerful, still at the Golden Level!
Without any hesitation, the mysterious assassin immediately utilized the Array Map plates buried just beneath the surface.
In the next moment, the defense magic array activated, forming a spherical shield that enveloped him.
Half of the spherical shield was above ground, the other half underground, offering him complete protection.
The freezing air swept over the shield, relentlessly assaulting it.
Seconds later, the spherical shield began to flicker and showed signs of failing.
Yet, the most precious time had been bought for the mysterious assassin.
He even had time to clean up the scene, clearing as many traces and clues of his presence as possible.
Armed with a Golden Level longbow and a spear, he stimulated his Fighting Energy and executed a Combat Skill, shooting out like an arrow just as the spherical shield collapsed.
The mysterious assassin successfully disengaged from his landing point, treading on the rooftops of nearby houses as he rapidly retreated.
As he fled, he also swiftly observed and gathered intelligence.
He soon spotted the spell-casters who had attacked him… three groups of Mages.
One group radiated a strong aura of the Fire Element, another’s surroundings were filled with the cold of ice, and the middle group, the Elf Mages, were the fewest in number but had the deepest aura.
The mysterious assassin immediately recognized them.
These were the three Magic Teams from the City Lord’s residence!
They were the Fire Meteor Team, the Ice Cream Team, and the Coordinator Team.
Elves had a strong magical talent.
The Dragon Lion Mercenary Group only had a handful of Mages, but in the Ice Sculpture Kingdom, there were enough Mages to form teams.
The mysterious assassin’s heart steadied.
He initially thought he was facing a Golden Level Mage casting spells, but it turned out to be just three teams, nearly ten Silver Level ones.
For the mysterious assassin at this moment, the former was much more threatening than the latter.
“These people can’t stop me!” the mysterious assassin ran, and in a short time, he had put over a hundred meters between him and his hiding place.
But just then, a lump of bird droppings fell from the sky, hitting the top of his head.
The mysterious assassin was struck speechless.
A lump of droppings spontaneously generated from nowhere, falling from the sky so fast that he didn’t have time to react.
He was hit!
Divine Arts—Bird Shit Skill!
The mysterious assassin’s heart sank, and his sharp gaze turned straight ahead.
The clergy who performed the Divine Arts also revealed his exact position due to this action.
He was from the Sea Bird Church at Snowbird Port.
One of the four Golden Level high ranks at Snowbird Port!
“You’ve been hit by my Divine Arts, you can’t escape. Surrender, Hua Tang,” the Sea Bird Bishop declared solemnly.
“How is that possible?!” the mysterious assassin scoffed, using a Combat Skill to increase his speed further.
He sprinted briefly before suddenly changing direction, like a falcon diving for its prey, directly attacking the nearest Magic Team.
He didn’t want to confront the Bishop blocking his path.
The opponent was also at the Golden Level; starting a fight would hardly result in a quick victory.
Moreover, he was still carrying two Golden Level weapons.
The mysterious assassin didn’t want to be entangled, making a split-second decision to strike at one of the Magic Teams.
He aimed to use this as a breakthrough to escape the scene!
