Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Traffic Accident
Her parents were eager to arrange blind dates for her every day, especially her mother, who would change her image with each blind date, making her almost uncertain about which version of herself was the most real.
"Pfft~" Zhuang Shuqing couldn’t help but laugh out loud, "Don’t worry, as long as you are still rotten to the core, no matter how much your appearance changes, it won’t change the essence."
Qin Huaixin glared at her and stopped talking.
"Let’s relax this weekend," Zhuang Shuqing suggested.
"Sure, but I need to convince my parents first."
Zhuang Shuqing looked at her incredulously, "Have your uncle and aunt really come to this point?"
"Exactly. They wish I could go on a blind date and get married right away, and then have a chubby baby."
Zhuang Shuqing laughed heartily upon hearing this, and it took a while before she could stop, "You’re only 23, not 32."
"You think they don’t know? They make me feel like an old maid."
Zhuang Shuqing: "..."
The dinner passed with Qin Huaixin endlessly lamenting. When leaving, Qin Huaixin offered to take Zhuang Shuqing home but was refused.
"I still need to buy some stuff, you go home first, so your parents won’t worry," Zhuang Shuqing said.
"Alright, give me a call when you get home."
"Okay."
-
Zhuang Shuqing drove out of the company parking lot, heading back to her apartment.
Suddenly, someone darted out in front, and she slammed on the brakes, but it was too late.
The car hit an unknown object. A loud crash emanated from the car body, and then, the car came to a stop.
In the driver’s seat, Zhuang Shuqing frantically unbuckled her seatbelt, ignoring the gash on her forehead from hitting the steering wheel as she scrambled out of the car.
After circling the car, she finally saw the unconscious person lying under the car, motionless, with blood all around.
Zhuang Shuqing stood trembling on the spot, unsure of how to react.
The sound of police sirens grew closer, eventually stopping next to her car...
She didn’t know how she ended up at the police station, nor when handcuffs had been placed on her hands.
Facing the police officer taking her statement, Zhuang Shuqing’s lips were tightly sealed, bloodless, and she didn’t utter a word no matter how they asked.
Was there any point in explaining?
The person lay under her car, bloodied, with the surveillance camera as proof. What could she say?
The door opened, a police officer came in, whispered a few words to the officer sitting opposite her, and she clearly saw the deepening look in that officer’s eyes directed at her.
The messenger left and the door closed again. Zhuang Shuqing felt the dark, cramped room becoming increasingly oppressive.
"Want to know what just happened?" he said.
Zhuang Shuqing looked up briefly then quickly lowered her head, still remaining silent.
The situation was probably related to the person lying under her car.
Indeed, the next second, the police officer spoke again.
"The victim has passed away. Miss, all the evidence points towards you..."
The room went silent.
"I suggest you call a lawyer; perhaps you can get a lighter sentence."
After saying that, the police had Zhuang Shuqing taken away.
-
This was a dark, damp detention cell with only a simple, musty-smelling single bed.
The door was locked.
Zhuang Shuqing scanned the room, then walked to a corner and squatted down, hugging herself.
She thought, with an incident like this, she might never be able to turn her life around.
Meanwhile, the police unlocked her phone and dialed the first number in her call history.
When Qin Huaixin received the call, she was still on her way home, but she didn’t hesitate to turn around...
Upon arriving at the police station, Qin Huaixin saw Zhuang Shuqing under police escort.
