Chapter 38: More Than Orders

Shiao Yi didn’t resist. He didn’t stop Dominic’s hands as he undressed him.

Dominic pulled away just enough to look into Shiao Yi’s face.

His cheeks were flushed red, his breath warm and growing hotter.

His dark eyes shimmered, wet with emotion—but they were calm. Awake. Clear.

He didn’t look like he hated it. But there was none of the passionate desire Dominic had hoped to see. None of the fire he longed for.

"Shiao... do you not want this?" Dominic asked quietly.

"No," Shiao Yi replied. "Dominic, if you want me, then you can have me."

"But what about you?" Dominic pressed. "Do you not want me in return? Do you not desire me the same way?"

"Me? I told you, didn’t I? It’s fine. You can do it. I’ll do my best too... as much as I can."

"It’s not about effort, is it?" Dominic asked softly. "Shiao... do you not want to be touched by me?"

Shiao Yi looked up at him with a puzzled expression, as if Dominic’s words didn’t quite make sense.

"I want to meet your expectations, Dominic," Shiao Yi said plainly. "That’s why I let you carry me, even hold me on your lap. If what you want is to touch me this way, then I’ll do my best to meet that too. Isn’t that enough?"

Dominic couldn’t understand what Shiao Yi was trying to say. He sat up and looked down at Shiao Yi, who lay beneath him, his upper body bare, quiet and still.

"I love you, Shiao," Dominic said. "There’s no one else like you. You’re the only one."

"I know," Shiao Yi replied. "I can tell how much you mean it. And I’m happy... No one’s ever said that to me before."

"Then... do you not love me in return?" Dominic asked, his voice unsteady.

Shiao Yi slowly sat up and faced him directly.

"I do care about you. I... I think of you as my commanding officer. I decided that on my own. And for me, you are the best superior I’ve ever had. That’s why I want to answer you—your expectations, your wishes. Whatever you ask of me, I’ll do it. Anything. After all, you saved my life. You gave me back everything. So I want to give you everything I have. You can use me however you like. I’ll devote myself completely to you."

Dominic was at a loss for words. He must have looked stunned—he felt stunned.

—As a commanding officer? Is that what this is about?

Is that how Shiao Yi sees him? Just as a superior? Someone whose orders he’s willing to follow?

Is that really how he feels?

Was he’s not... someone irreplaceable to Shiao Yi?

No... Dominic realized bitterly that Shiao Yi likely meant he was the only one as a commanding officer. Nothing more.

—All along, Dominic’s feelings had just been spinning in circles, never reaching Shiao Yi.

He looked at the person in front of him—Shiao Yi. That slim, delicate white body. The smooth, shiny black hair. Those large black eyes rarely showed emotion, always calm and composed. His small pink lops that was usually drawn in a firm line, showing flashes of strong will.

Dominic remembered every kiss they had shared—sweet, warm kisses. He knew how smooth and soft Shiao Yi’s skin felt beneath his hands. But maybe... the one who had truly felt joy in those touches had only been Dominic himself. Maybe it had all been one-sided.

Shiao Yi hadn’t rejected him because he didn’t want to. He hadn’t resisted because his superior had requested it. That was all. It was duty as a subordinate.

Even now, Dominic thought, if he said he wanted him, Shiao Yi would likely offer his body again without hesitation. That’s how it was.

And Dominic... had been foolish enough to mistake that. He had convinced himself that Shiao Yi felt the same way. That Shiao Yi wanted him the same way he wanted Shiao Yi.

Dominic pulled Shiao Yi into his arms and held him close. How could he make his feelings known? How could he truly make Shiao Yi understand what he meant to him?

He pressed his lips to the left side of Shiao Yi’s chest, just below the heart. He kissed it deeply, then began to suck it more and more intently, focusing on that one spot.

"...Nn..."

Shiao Yi twitched slightly, letting out a faint sound that was half a groan. Maybe it hurt.

Dominic pulled back and looked at the mark he’d left—a clear, red mark bloomed over Shiao Yi’s pale skin. A symbol of possession. His own mark.

If what Shiao Yi wanted was a superior’s command—then Dominic would give him one.

"Shiao Yi," Dominic said firmly. "You belong to me. That means you must not give your body to anyone else. Not your life, either. Everything about you—your whole self—belongs to me, your superior."

"Understood, sir," Shiao Yi replied without hesitation.

Dominic straightened his posture and made a small gesture, raising his right hand to his temple.

"What was that? What did you mean by that?"

Shiao Yi blinked his eyes as if surprised, then gave a slightly embarrassed smile. When he made that kind of face, he looked young—almost too young—and quietly adorable.

"It just came out by habit," Shiao Yi said. "Habit is a scary thing. ’Sir’ is a title used to show respect toward officers of a certain rank or higher."

Dominic stepped down from the bed and walked over to the window. He felt Shiao Yi follow behind him, but he kept his eyes fixed on the view outside. From the second floor window, the training grounds were bathed in the soft glow of the sunset. No units were out training today. Every units must be busy with magical beast countermeasures.

"Dominic... Aren’t you going to touch me?" Shiao Yi asked, his voice uncertain.

"Not right now," Dominic replied, his back still turned.

He couldn’t look at Shiao Yi’s face.
