Chapter 484: Chapter 487 Crisis_1
The kidnapped girl was not Shen Jing, but Zhao Shanshan.
The instant he received this news, Yang Gang’s mind filled with the image of Zhao Shanshan’s ex-boyfriend.
"No way.."
His brow furrowed slightly, and he began to set off in pursuit.
Gu Xiaorou also followed.
"Yang Gang, you seem pretty concerned about Zhao Shanshan. Do you have a thing for older girls?" Gu Xiaorou said as she ran alongside him.
Yang Gang awkwardly laughed off her question, then replied, "Right now, I’m running a business. Zhao Shanshan, she’s currently my employee."
"A business?" Gu Xiaorou pondered for a moment, her face darkened a bit, "Yang Gang, you’re not into drug trafficking, are you?!"
"Impossible! I would never get involved in such a grave crime like drug trafficking!" Yang Gang replied assertively.
"Oh." Gu Xiaorou breathed a sigh of relief, "Then what kind of business are you running?"
"Well.." Yang Gang hesitated for a moment before answering, "Gun smuggling."
Gu Xiaorou: ..
A moment later, Gu Xiaorou grabbed Yang Gang’s ear and shouted, "Yang Gang! How’s gun smuggling any different from drug trafficking?!"
"Under the most recent revision of our national laws, the death penalty is no longer enforced for gun smuggling. I interpret this as the state indirectly endorsing such a gray area in business." Yang Gang responded.
Gu Xiaorou chastised him, "You, an ordinary citizen, should not speculate on the intentions of our high-level officials!"
As they continued running, Yang Gang took Gu Xiaorou’s hand: "Xiaorou, you’ve been especially quick to get annoyed lately. I prefer you when you’re smiling."
"Oh." Gu Xiaorou’s face reddened slightly and she fell silent.
A few moments later, Gu Xiaorou returned to her senses.
He had managed to sidestep the issue yet again!
Just then, Yang Gang’s phone rang abruptly. It was a call from Xia Ziyang.
"Yang Gang! What are you doing? Weren’t you supposed to guard Shen Jing?"
At this point, Yang Gang had a sinking feeling that something was amiss.
"We’re chasing after the suspect." Yang Gang paused for a moment before continuing, "What happened?"
Xia Ziyang sighed, "Shen Jing has also been kidnapped from the school. I bear some responsibility for this as well. I didn’t expect there to be a full criminal gang instead of a lone culprit. They intentionally abducted Zhao Shanshan to get you to leave Shen Jing and then had their accomplice on the school grounds kidnap Shen Jing. I think they’re still primarily after Shen Jing, and Zhao Shanshan was just unfortunate enough to get caught up in this. You keep chasing after the one who took Zhao Shanshan. We’ll handle Shen Jing."
Yang Gang clenched his fists, his eyes flashing dangerously.
As soon as he ended the call from Xia Ziyang, another call came in, this time from an unknown number.
He tapped answer.
"Hello?" Yang Gang said.
"Is this Yang Gang?" A digitized voice came through the other end.
A sense of unease rose in Yang Gang’s heart. The criminals were using sophisticated equipment. But he kept his tone steady as he asked, "Who are you?"
"Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is whether you want to save your friend Shen Jing or not."
"What’s your endgame?" Yang Gang kept his tone steady. He knew the criminal’s psychology–the more nervous he seemed, the more audacious they would become.
"Our goal, now that would be telling. How about we play a little game instead? There’s an abandoned factory in the eastern industrial zone of Hangcheng. We hope you can get there within the hour, otherwise, these two lovely ladies..."
The distorted electronic voice paused, then said, "Oh right, push those two women over here."
"Pssht~ You guys think you’re big shots?" It was Zhao Shanshan’s voice.
"If you’re after me, let my senior sister go." That was Shen Jing’s voice.
Yang gang was slightly taken aback. He couldn’t detect any fear or anxiety in Shen Jing’s voice.
This girl...
Then the electronic voice chimed again, "Oh, we’re starting to count time now, good luck. And remember, come alone. Don’t play any games like calling the police. That’s simply childish. Let’s not play such a low-level game of cops and robbers. Well, that’s it. Good luck, bye~" And then hung up.
"Who was that?" Gu Xiaorou asked.
Yang Gang placed his hands on Gu Xiaorou’s shoulders, saying softly, "Xiaorou, do you know? There is one big regret in my life."
"What regret?" Gu Xiaorou asked, her face full of worry.
Yang Gang let out a long sigh, "The world is so dangerous these days, who knows when I’ll kick the bucket. It’s not that I fear death, but the thought of me not leaving any descendants behind fills me with restlessness."
Upon saying that, Yang Gang paused and looked deeply into Gu Xiaorou’s eyes, suddenly raising his voice, "Xiaorou!"
"Yes!" Gu Xiaorou, startled, immediately responded.
"Shall we conceive a child, right here and now?" Yang Gang suddenly became extremely excited.
Gu Xiaorou’s face turned dark: "You jerk! And here I thought we were in major trouble. Turns out you’re just horny! Go wank yourself off, I’m not accompanying you. Humph!"
Having uttered that, Gu Xiaorou stomped off, clearly aggrieved.
Watching Gu Xiaorou disappear from his sight, Yang Gang let out a sigh of relief, his gaze turning solemn immediately.
Albeit unsure, Yang Gang seemed to sense that this group of bandits appeared to be targeting him..
Glancing at the time, Yang Gang shrugged off his thoughts and headed straight towards the outskirts.
Fifty minutes later, Yang Gang arrived at an abandoned factory.
The abandoned factory had once been a glass factory. It was forcibly shut down by the government a couple of years ago due to a fire which resulted in the death of four to five people.
Upon reaching his destination, Yang Gang surveyed the surroundings, noting the overgrown weeds and feeling the desolation. Not only was the interior of the factory deserted, but the surroundings were also barren. It seemed that the closure of the factory was not only due to the fire incident but probably also due to the fact that its setting up was illicit to begin with. It was only after the fire incident, during the subsequent investigation by the authorities, that it was discovered that the factory was not just making glass but potentially involved in other covert activities as well.
Yang Gang’s gaze fell on an abandoned grain-silo-like building ahead.
The outer facade of the warehouse was heavily ruined with a lot of smoke smudge still visible from what seemed like the signs of a severe fire. Yang Gang was a significant distance away from the warehouse, with vast open space surrounding them.
"This is bad," Yang Gang quickly mulled over his options. Besides the weeds, there was little else to provide solid cover. Should they employ a sniper, he would find himself in a difficult spot.
Yang Gang pondered for a moment, then gathering his spiritual power, he left a phantom of himself in place as he burst forward.
"Bang!"
At the sound of gunfire, Yang Gang erupted into motion, leaving behind an afterimage and swiftly rolling into the overgrown grassy patch on the open ground.
Hiding within the tall grasses, Yang Gang observed the warehouse through the gaps between the weeds.
The warehouse had two levels. The bottom floor consisted of a giant door, covered in rust, with the rest of the area sealed. The second floor had many small windows. Yang Gang had spotted the sniper hiding in one of these upstairs windows earlier.
Yang Gang once again leapt out from the grass, relying on his agility to evade the sniper’s shots, advancing ten more meters forward effortlessly.
Just as Yang Gang was about to seize the moment and charge past everything...
Bang!
Another bullet whistled past, Yang Gang reacted swiftly and shifted to the side. However--
Pfft!
The bullet had hit Yang Gang square in the chest. If he hadn’t activated the Crocodile Gene, thus gaining the defensive Power of Crocodile, that shot would have been fatal.
"This doesn’t look good, that sniper seems to be an old hand, shooting where he predicted I would be."
In the midst of strategizing, another bullet whistled past.
Yang Gang rolled over to evade the approaching bullet.
But--
The bullet once again hit him in the stomach.
The sniper’s prediction was spot on!
Though the two bullets were blocked by the Power of Crocodile, it resulted in a considerable drain of his spiritual power and physical energy.
If he were to keep dragging this on, there was only one outcome: he would exhaust all his energy, the Power of Crocodile would fade away, and he’d be fatally shot by the sniper.
A crisis unlike any he had faced before.
What should he do?
