Chapter 410: Chapter 413 Hangcheng Maternal and Child Health Hospital_1
Yang Gang looked up to the other side of the screen, and realised it was a trick. He could not see what was happening behind the screen from within the confessional, but the inside could be seen from the outside.
The one confessing was a young married woman in her twenties, gorgeous and dressed in luxury brands, presumably a so-called upper-class figure.
"What do you want to confess?" Yang Gang asked.
"I just betrayed my husband and spent a night with a stranger." The woman’s hands formed a steeple as she spoke.
"Ah, coming to confess before God indicates that you feel guilty towards your husband. God will not abandon any believer who seeks to reform." Yang Gang virtually repeated verbatim what the priests on TV say.
The woman let out an embarrassed chuckle: "In the presence of God, we must be honest, so I will tell the truth. Actually, I don’t feel guilty towards my husband."
Yang Gang kept a straight face but asked as calmly as possible: "So what do you want to confess?"
"It’s like this. I just had a wonderful time with that man at the hotel. He’s very strong, very capable, and I was very happy. So, selfishly, I want to maintain a long-term lover relationship with him. But you know, once a one-night stand ends, it’s hard for the two parties to meet again. So, I secretly stole his ID. That way, when he realises it’s missing, he’ll have to contact me and then we can meet again. I am confessing for my selfishness." The woman shamelessly poured out her story.
Yang Gang: ...
"Umm, Father?" Seeing Yang Gang remain silent, the woman tentatively called out.
"Oh, I’m conveying your confession to God. God says that you’re an honest woman and that you’ll be forgiven."Yang Gang seemed quite professional at his job.
The woman was overjoyed: "God is indeed a good person. Thanks also to you, Father. I feel much better now, so I’ll take my leave."
After the woman left, the serious expression on Yang Gang’s face remained.
This must be what they call the ’upper-class women with low principles’...
What a chaotic circle they live in!
For the next hour or so, Yang Gang ’serviced’ ten people, six of whom were involved in infidelity, both men and women.
At first, listening to others’ secrets was quite thrilling, but gradually, Yang Gang began to feel overwhelmed. What’s happening to society? Although the Chinese people’s perception of sex has greatly improved since the reform and opening up, isn’t this improvement too drastic?
Unknown to him, cheating and infidelity had become a societal norm.
"Listening to all this, one might lose trust in love and marriage," Yang Gang thought to himself.
Just then, another voice rang out: "Father, I want to confess."
It was Gu Xiaorou’s.
Yang Gang sat upright, secretly observing Gu Xiaorou from behind the screen.
She looked like she was deeply troubled.
Yang Gang changed his tone of voice and asked: "What do you want to confess?"
Gu Xiaorou hesitated to speak. Yang Gang was very anxious, what on earth did she want to confess?
Finally, Gu Xiaorou spoke in a low voice, "I... I like..."
Yang Gang tensed immediately, awaiting her next words.
But it seemed difficult for Gu Xiaorou to continue, and she suddenly fell silent.
Just at this moment, the priest whom Yang Gang had knocked unconscious earlier suddenly came to, opening his mouth to call out for help.
In his panic, Yang Gang was about to unleash another ’Mount Hua thunderous palm’, but he stopped as he remembered that the priest had already been knocked out once before. Another strike could cause a concussion.
The palm that Yang Gang had intended for the priest’s head suddenly changed direction and covered his mouth instead.
The priest kicked about.
Yang Gang was too focused on his struggle with the priest to pay attention to what Gu Xiaorou was saying.
After a while, Gu Xiaorou’s voice became louder: "Father, what should I do in my situation? Father, why aren’t you saying anything? Does this mean I won’t gain God’s forgiveness?"
The confessional remained silent.
"Ah, I see." Gu Xiaorou left sounding heartbroken.
In the priest’s chamber, Yang Gang had finally subdued the real priest. Before he could catch his breath, the side door was flung open. A Western man, dressed as a priest with a cross hanging from his neck, appeared in the doorway.
This Western man was also a priest, but obviously of a much higher rank. Possibly, a bishop or something similar?
Moreover, Yang Gang could sense a calm and profound energy emitting from this man. He radiated a powerful aura and intense pressure without even moving or speaking.
Yang Gang quickly assumed that this powerful man was a result of genetic modification. And he was extremely strong!
Yang Gang felt a bit overwhelmed. Was he about to be taken to Rome for a religious trial?
Quick on his feet, he immediately said, "Your Eminence, I wanted to join the clergy, which is why I infiltrated this place. Although I’ve been disrespectful, my heart is sincere."
The Western priest rolled his eyes, uttering in response, "Alright then, welcome aboard. Let’s pray together for the future of Hangcheng."
Yang Gang was utterly flabbergasted.
The man was speaking in Huaxia, with a perfect Hangcheng accent.
Was this guy really a Westerner?
"I’m Jack, you can call me Father Jack or Captain Jack," said the priest.
Splat!
Yang Gang felt like vomiting blood. This priest was nothing like the ones he’d seen on TV.
"Alright, stop daydreaming and come over to fill out the contract," Captain Jack - no, Father Jack corrected.
Yang Gang felt muddled.
He massaged his temple, "Father Jack, um, I’m still in school. Can I work part-time?"
"Sure, but part-timers earn less, and you won’t be eligible for the full attendance award," Jack replied.
Yang Gang suddenly felt like he was part of a film set.
Noticing Yang Gang’s confusion, Jack chuckled, "Our church is progressive; we’ve incorporated market economic principles. All our staff are contract-based. Our income comes mainly from tithe, donations, and revenues from weddings. Of course, praying for disaster-stricken areas is always free."
Yang Gang felt like his worldview was about to crumble.
Seeing that Yang Gang was struggling to absorb everything, Jack further explained, "Look at the world-renowned Shaolin Temple, they’ve commercialized. We can’t fall behind. Fact is, many churches now hire contract-based priests and nuns."
"Oh, I see," Yang Gang had a sudden epiphany.
After pondering on it, Yang Gang decided to sign part-time contract.
He didn’t want the news of his attack on the priest to leak. His reputation was already at an all-time low, even the "Huaxia Youth Daily", which once praised him, was now about to publish an article entitled ’How the Good Youth of Hangcheng Fell’. Moreover, Gu Xiaorou was a Christian, and assaulting a priest was unforgivable in devout Christian’s eyes.
After signing the contract and stamping his fingerprint, Yang Gang somehow became a part-time priest.
Father Li Sen, who Yang Gang had previously attacked, was magnanimously forgiving and did not hold Yang Gang’s reckless actions against him.
Noticing Yang Gang’s skepticism towards Jack, he laughed, "Never mistake Father Jack for a foreigner. He has been in Hangcheng for many years and has completely assimilated into local life. He eats Chinese food, uses chopsticks, cursed in Huaxia, plays mahjong, and even criticizes the national football team. With a thick Hangcheng accent when he speaks English, you wouldn’t know he’s foreign if you close your eyes."
Yang Gang was sweating buckets. There really are all sorts of people everywhere.
Well, he wasn’t really in a position to judge anyone.
Leaving the church, Yang Gang caught a taxi and headed to school.
Yang Gang gazed out of the window, still wondering what Gu Xiaorou had confessed.
As they passed by the Hangcheng Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Yang Gang suddenly spotted a familiar figure.
"Uh, is that Sister Miao?" Yang Gang wasn’t too sure, "I must be seeing things. Sister Miao doesn’t usually wear sunglasses."
Without giving it much thought, Yang Gang continued on his way to school.
Meanwhile, outside the Hangcheng Maternal and Child Health Hospital, a voluptuous woman wearing sunglasses, covering half her face, was pacing back and forth. She looked distressed. Several times she attempted to step inside the hospital, only to retreat back.
