Li Kun hesitated; his raised hand didn’t come down after all.

Li Ziyan’s face showed disappointment. "Dad, do you know? I yearn for you to express your anger like a man. But over the years, no matter how rebellious or willful I’ve been, you haven’t uttered a single harsh word to me. And forget about hitting."

Li Kun remained silent, not uttering a word.

Li Ziyan continued, "Dad, mom ran off with another man. She disdained our poverty, abandoned her husband and child, and didn’t hesitate at all when she left. Dad, that’s a man’s disgrace. Why aren’t you angry? How long do you plan on swallowing your pride?"

Li Kun continued his silence.

Li Ziyan paused, her emotion calming down. She quietly continued, "Since the night you knelt down begging Mom not to leave, and even though you begged, she resolutely left us, I made a decision. If my father is a coward, then I will protect our family."

Li Kun remained silent, but a tear glistened at the corner of his eye.

Yang Gang watched Li Ziyan silently. He suddenly found this young girl to be quite extraordinary. Her attempted maturity might seem naive to others, but it couldn’t be denied that this girl was very courageous.

After finishing her speech, Li Ziyan turned around and ran away.

Xuexue watched Li Ziyan’s receding figure and said to Yang Gang, "I’m going after her."

Having said this, she too ran after Li Ziyan.

When Li Ziyan left, Li Kun directly squatted on the ground, holding his head, not saying a word.

Yang Gang handed Li Kun a cigarette and lit one for himself.

"Yes." Yang Gang responded with a slight nod.

Li Kun took a puff on his cigarette before continuing in his usual detached tone, "This is an unseen power struggle. The Yang family has its opposing forces, but it also has its supporters. The current situation is the result of their mutual wrestling. The fact that Master Yang was arrested indicates that the forces opposing the Yang family currently hold the upper hand. But no charges related to tax evasion have been confirmed against Master Yang thus far, so clearly, we should not underestimate the strength of the forces silently supporting the Yang family. The most pressing concern now is that the Yang family’s enterprises cannot encounter any further issues, otherwise, the opposing forces would decimate the Yang family completely."

Yang Gang glanced at Li Kun, calmly saying, "Can a vow exchange for your daughter’s happiness?"

Li Kun was taken aback and fell silent.

Yang Gang took a puff, and emotionlessly said, "Your wife left because you did not have enough money, right?"

Li Kun dropped his head helplessly, "Yes."

"Your daughter must want to see the day when you prove yourself, right?" Yang Gang lightly suggested.

Considering the words his daughter had said moments ago, Li Kun looked confounded.

"Your ex-wife... err, your ex-wife’s new husband, what’s his status?" Yang Gang asked.

"He’s an executive at Xinyang Mining, with an annual salary of around 500,000." Li Kun gave a self-deprecating smile, "Anyway, he’s much better off than an impoverished teacher like me who only earns 8,000 a month."

"Hmmm... Xinyang Mining is just a middle-scale enterprise in Hangcheng." Yang Gang stated flatly.

"Well, it’s vastly inferior compared to your family’s Pingye Mining Group." Li Kun responded.

Yang Gang pondered for a short while before responding with a grin, "Teacher Li, may I invite you to serve as the CEO of our Yang Group? As for the annual salary, let’s start with five million; on the condition, however, that Yang Group survives this crisis."

"Chief Executive Officer? Moreover, the CEO of the entire Yang Group??" Li Kun looked at Yang Gang in astonishment, "Yang Gang, do you realize the importance of a corporation’s CEO for its development?"

Yang Gang smiled lightly, "That’s why I chose you."

He paused before continuing, "Teacher Li, I’ve investigated your background. A Harvard University PhD economist, international conglomerates were willing to fight over you in the past. But you eventually chose to return to your home country and surprisingly, devoted yourself to education. Teacher Li, please let me say this, although being a teacher may be your dream, you’re wasting your talents."

Li Kun was even more stunned, "You... you investigated me?"

Li Kun lowered his head and stayed silent for a while before asking, "Can you give me a few days to consider it?"

"Of course." Yang Gang replied.

After Li Kun had finished his cigarette, he extinguished it, stood up, dusted his clothing off, and announced, "Well, Yang Gang. I should get going."

Only when Li Kun had left did Tong Xin inquire, "Yang Gang, is it appropriate to hand the management of the entire Yang Group over to him? The board of directors of Yang Group who oppose the Yang family would take this opportunity to further attack the Yang family."
