Chapter 42: Chapter 41: Master Misses You Too

The scene fell silent for a moment.

The atmosphere was slightly tense.

Only Wen Zhixing wore a smile, as if nothing had happened.

"Alright, Wen, I am aware of this matter."

Ning Shan took a deep breath and then turned her gaze to She Zhihong and the other two, her eyes filled with profound meaning.

For a moment, the three of them didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.

Wen Zhixing saw this and sneered inwardly. I had wondered what kind of formidable figures they were. Turns out they’re just nobodies... No, furnaces, after all. Since we’re all furnaces, what’s with the pretense?

...

"Zhang."

Ning Shan didn’t lash out on the spot. Instead, she turned to look at Zhang Tiancheng. A jade bottle appeared in her palm as she said, "Zhang, take this elixir."

"This..."

Zhang Tiancheng was somewhat flustered.

Just as he was about to refuse, a hand reached out from the side and took the elixir.

"Many thanks, Ning."

Wen Zhixing took the elixir and thanked her cheerfully.

Then he stuffed the elixir into Zhang Tiancheng’s arms.

Zhang Tiancheng stared somewhat dazedly at the jade bottle in his arms. Seeing this, he felt a sense of resignation. Damn it, it doesn’t matter anymore. Let it all go.

"Thank you, Ning!"

"Ning, actually, about this matter..."

She Zhihong swallowed, bracing himself to explain.

"Shut up."

Ning Shan looked at him with cold eyes.

She Zhihong and the other two immediately fell silent once again, their previous air of superiority completely gone.

Wen Zhixing saw this, a cheerful expression also on his face.

His mindset had long since changed. He used to fear death, always tentative in his actions and words. But now, he understood. He didn’t give a damn. He had survived this long not because he was cautious, but because he was still useful—very useful, in fact. So why shouldn’t he live a bit more freely?

"Zhang, don’t worry. I will give you an explanation for this, and I will also explain it to Elder Dongfang," Ning Shan said, turning back to Zhang Tiancheng.

"No need, no need."

Zhang Tiancheng hurriedly waved his hands. He really didn’t need it. He thought it was fine just like this. If Elder Dongfang found out, it would only cause him more trouble.

"Thank you, Senior Sister, but we just wanted some elixirs; nothing more is needed," Wen Zhixing stepped forward and said at this moment.

He couldn’t really afford to offend She Zhihong and the others too grievously. Although he wasn’t afraid, Zhang Tiancheng was. A warning, to make them not dare to target Zhang Tiancheng again, would suffice.

"Alright."

Ning Shan nodded upon hearing this. This was fine too. She naturally understood why She Zhihong and the others had attacked Zhang Tiancheng. The previous matter had concluded, and it was best not to escalate things now. They had to maintain Wutong Peak’s reputation.

Upon hearing this, She Zhihong and the other two felt a wave of relief.

"You, come with me."

Afterward, Ning Shan glanced at the others.

Wen Zhixing wasn’t truly rash. Although he stood up for Zhang Tiancheng, he didn’t explicitly state who was responsible, thus leaving room for maneuver. If he had explicitly stated that She Zhihong and the others were responsible, it would have reflected poorly on Ning Shan too. Handling it coolly like this was good.

"Yes."

The three lowered their heads, their expressions gloomy.

Before turning around, She Zhihong finally raised his head to glance at Wen Zhixing, his look incomparably cold.

However, Wen Zhixing acted as if he hadn’t seen it at all. He didn’t scare easily. If they had the guts, let them try and make a move against him.

Just then, Ning Shan turned back again. She Zhihong, frightened, quickly lowered his head.

"Wen, if you have some free time, you may visit Wutong Peak. Master also misses you," Ning Shan hinted meaningfully.

Upon hearing these words, everyone present was stunned. Their gazes toward Wen Zhixing were filled with shock. What merits or abilities did this kid have for Feng Ruoli to be concerned about him?

"Good."

Wen Zhixing nodded, a smile appearing on his face.

Ning Shan gave a slight nod, then smiled and said, "Then... how about tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow? Good."

Wen Zhixing was startled but still agreed.

"I’ll wait for you."

Ning Shan smiled sweetly, then turned into a streak of light and flew away.

She Zhihong took a deep breath, gave Wen Zhixing a meaningful look, and quickly left with the other two.

[Collect Fortune Fragment.]

Only then did Wen Zhixing focus his thoughts and begin to collect the fragments. Ning Shan had many good Fortune Fragments on her; he couldn’t miss out. This would also save the Life Defying Blood Body the trouble of venturing out at night.

[Gray Fortune Fragment +1.]

[Gray Fortune Fragment +1.]

[White Fortune Fragment +1, current White Fragment: 2/2.]

...

A White Fragment, not bad.

Wen Zhixing nodded to himself, choosing not to activate the fortune reward for now, and set it aside.

Once Ning Shan and the others left, Zhang Tiancheng collapsed to the ground, as if all strength had left him.

"Wen... you... you’re really crazy..." How could you dare to do that?

"What’s wrong? I just asked Ning for a bottle of healing elixir. What’s the big deal?" Wen Zhixing smiled slightly.

"You..."

Zhang Tiancheng gave a bitter smile. And that’s not a big deal? Which of us furnaces would dare speak to Ning like that?

Zhang Tiancheng looked at Wen Zhixing. He felt that the current Wen Zhixing was completely different from before. What happened? When did he start changing? It seemed to have happened gradually, without him noticing...

"Zhang, don’t worry. From now on, they won’t come to trouble you anymore," Wen Zhixing said, reaching out to pull Zhang Tiancheng up.

"And... what about you?" Zhang Tiancheng asked in return.

"Me?" Wen Zhixing smiled. "Would he dare?"

Zhang Tiancheng was startled, then he remembered the token on Wen Zhixing. Right. Would they dare? Even Ning showed Wen Zhixing some courtesy, so what did She Zhihong amount to?

"Speaking of which, Zhang, who is She Zhihong? Why do I get the feeling that he has a somewhat special status?" Wen Zhixing asked, voicing his doubts.

"He is somewhat special," Zhang Tiancheng nodded, then began to explain. "Wen, you might not know this, but we were all forcibly brought here to the Wonderous Palace to become furnaces. It’s different for She Zhihong and his lot; they are orphans who were taken in by the Wonderous Palace. They’ve lived in the Wonderous Palace since they were young. These people can be said to have been raised and nurtured by the Wonderous Palace. They aren’t furnaces, but rather the integrated cultivation partners—or Taoist companions—of other Wonderous Palace disciples."

Wen Zhixing nodded. So they are nominal Taoist companions. No wonder they act so arrogant. So that’s how it is. No wonder they seemed so high and mighty.

"Wen, it’s still best not to provoke them in the future. They are considered true disciples of the Wonderous Palace, and we are no match for them," Zhang Tiancheng spoke again.

"True disciples?"

Wen Zhixing shook his head. He sneered inwardly. These people were probably specially cultivated by the Wonderous Palace. Most of these furnaces are of little use, only good enough for those lower-realm disciples. But these individuals are different. Nominally not furnaces, they can be properly cultivated.

They’re just the final great elixir, not yet ripe for harvesting, that’s all.

Wen Zhixing felt a sense of sorrow for these people. They had yet to see reality.
