Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Qualification Test (3)

"See, I told you, no one would dare challenge Sect Leader Xuanmingzi," one person shouted.

"Ha ha, I already expected this. Think about it. With such competition rules, who would hold back? It’s either go all out or die. Who would want to die against Xuanmingzi?"

"It seems we’ll have to wait until the second round to see Sect Leader Xuanmingzi’s ultimate techniques," one person sighed.

The viewers watching the live broadcast clenched their fists upon hearing the commentator’s words.

"Damn, is he even human? Killing without a second thought and such terrifying, cruel methods."

"The phrase ’terrifying beyond belief’ fits Elder Xuanmingzi perfectly."

...

The host’s voice resonated again.

"Hello, everyone. I’m your host, Taozi. Sect Leader Yan Rufeng has yet to appear. However, in the first round of the qualifying competition, Elder Xuanmingzi was the first to take the stage and won by default as no one dared to challenge him. Clearly, no one wants to die by his sword. Now, let’s zoom in to see who will be the next participant."

On the deserted island, an elderly man dressed in a black kasaya and holding a Zen Stick floated into the air and gracefully landed on the stage.

"Master Jiekong from the Songshan Songlin Zen Temple has come to hold the stage. Who dares to challenge?"

With a voice like a great bell and piercing eyes, the master spoke. Aside from murmurs, no one dared to step onto the stage.

One person offstage whispered, "Master Jiekong, as the head of the Songlin Zen Temple, his cultivation is unfathomable, with countless skills. Surely, no one would dare challenge him."

Another agreed, "Indeed. Master Jiekong’s ultimate technique, especially the Tiger Roar Mountain Forest, is unparalleled. As soon as he roars at his opponent, they would be instantly stunned and would inevitably roll on the ground in despair, admitting defeat."

"Ha ha,"

A person sneered, "You must not know what Master Jiekong’s next move is after stunning his opponent with Tiger Roar Mountain Forest."

"What is it?" someone asked.

"The Great Tathagata Seal!"

"The Great Tathagata Seal? What’s that?"

"You’ve never heard of it? I only know about it through hearsay. A hundred years ago, a sect with a millennium of heritage came to cause trouble at Songlin Zen Temple. After using the Tiger Roar Mountain Forest, Master Jiekong unleashed the Great Tathagata Seal and turned two hundred lives into minced meat instantly..." the person said with some apprehension.

"My God, that’s terrifying."

"Terrifying or not, I don’t know. At the moment, no one dares to challenge Master Jiekong; he’s already won by default..."

...

Just as Master Jiekong stepped down from the stage, another figure flew forward.

This person was dressed in a gray daoist robe, with a regal-looking hair crown and neatly groomed beard, exuding an aura of an immortal expert.

"I am Shen Jizi of the Huashan Mountain Sword Sect. Who dares to challenge?"

In the crowd, someone began to narrate, "The Huashan Mountain Sword Sect is renowned for its swordsmanship, with countless exquisite techniques. There’s always been a saying that the world’s sword techniques come from Huashan. The sect’s signature technique, the Eight Desolate and Six Harmonies Sword Technique, is famous throughout. Historically, there’s been a saying: ’If you practice swordsmanship for fifty years, you won’t discuss swords with Huashan.’"

One person agreed, "Given the high status of the Huashan Mountain Sword Sect in the cultivation world, even Xu Da, the president of the Cultivation Association, would show them respect."

"Then it seems even Senior Shen Jizi won’t find anyone to challenge him," one person sighed.

Upon hearing the introduction of the Huashan Mountain Sword Sect, everyone sighed in resignation.

"Senior Shen Jizi, no one challenges you. Please don’t waste everyone’s time and step down to wait for the second round..."

Shen Jizi’s cold face showed a hint of a smile as he leapt off the stage.

The audience watching the live broadcast let out a heavy breath.

"Damn it!"

"What’s going on? Isn’t this supposed to be a competition? How come every person who steps up wins without a fight? This is already the third one. Are they just showing off?"

"Sigh!"

"And Sect Leader Yan Rufeng hasn’t appeared. Is he really too afraid to come? So disappointing."

As people were grumbling, the two major cultivation sects, Mount Heng and Heng Mountain, also stepped up. Like before, no one challenged them. Some hot-tempered people were on the brink of exploding. Had they not been waiting for Yan Rufeng, they would have smashed their TVs and phones.

The host Taozi’s voice sounded again.

"Dear viewers, I bet you’re all curious as to why Sect Leader Yan Rufeng hasn’t appeared yet. Now, let’s turn the camera to him."

As soon as the host finished speaking, the live feed switched, and Yan Rufeng appeared on the screen.

Sitting cross-legged in mid-air, Yan Rufeng had his eyes closed. Below him was a layer of cloud-like cotton candy, with the competition’s venue, the deserted island, beneath the clouds.

"Wow,"

someone exclaimed while watching the live broadcast, "So Sect Leader Yan has been here all along. Why isn’t he on stage? Why is he sitting in mid-air?"

"Ha ha,"

"Interesting. What is Sect Leader Yan planning to do..."

"He’s moving."

"Sect Leader Yan is moving. Everyone, look!" the host Taozi exclaimed.

In an instant, Yan Rufeng landed on the deserted island’s stage.

The camera followed closely, showing Yan Rufeng standing calmly with his hands behind his back, looking at the astonished crowd. He said indifferently, "Yan Rufeng of the Dragon Abyss Sect is here. Who will fight me?"

The audience fell silent. No one dared to say a word, and no one dared to step onto the stage. They all knew that even Vice President Zhao Tian had died at Yan Rufeng’s hands, and no one wanted to court death.

Xu Da’s face turned extremely grim. A ball of anger arose from his heart as he thought, "These cowards, wasting all my efforts. How disappointing. If no one challenges Yan Rufeng, how can we deplete his Spiritual Energy, and how can we kill him in the next rounds?"

"Ha ha,"

Looking at the silent competition site, Yan Rufeng’s lips curled into a cold smile, "Since none of you dare to challenge me, I’ll call you out."

"What?"

someone exclaimed.

"What did he say? He’s going to name his challengers? Did I hear that right?"

"This Yan Rufeng, how arrogant," one person said furiously.

The viewers watching the live broadcast burst into laughter, "Sect Leader Yan is still the same as ever. He hasn’t changed a bit."

"My husband is so handsome," a female viewer chuckled.

"If Yan Rufeng is your husband, then what am I?" the man next to her angrily asked.

"Uh, can you be my sidekick?" the woman responded awkwardly.

"No way!" the man shouted...

One of the people who had been accepted into the Dragon Abyss Sect shouted loudly, "Sect Leader Yan is mighty! I am proud to be an outer disciple of the Dragon Abyss Sect. To meet Sect Leader Yan in person, I am even more proud..."

...

The host Taozi’s voice sounded again.

"Dear viewers, Sect Leader Yan isn’t following the rules at all. Let’s zoom in to see the Cultivation Association’s reaction."

Xu Da, who had been holding back his anger, exploded upon hearing Yan Rufeng’s words. He shouted angrily, "Yan Rufeng, stop being reckless! No matter who you are, you must follow the rules here. It’s not your playground."

"Ha ha,"

Yan Rufeng sneered, "As for how you compete, that’s your business. I’m very busy and don’t have time to play with you. Whoever has the highest cultivation among you can come up and challenge me now."
