Chapter 306: Chapter 301: A Hairpin [Five Updates]

Yan Rufeng and his two companions searched for an inn in the bustling yet prosperous Dragon Origin City.

As the street was teeming with caravans and bustling crowds, Yan Rufeng walked slowly, occasionally glancing at the roadside shops and their merchandise. The various calls from the vendors caught his attention.

In the window of a lavishly decorated shop, a certain item was displayed. Under the glow of the evening sunrise, it emitted dazzling red and blue lights, appearing exceptionally noble.

"Hmm!"

Yan Rufeng exclaimed in surprise, "That hairpin, with its red body, exquisite engravings, and gemstone inlays, looks so similar to the ones Jiayao and Qingxiao wore on their heads!"

Jiayao and Qingxiao were the two disciples Yan Rufeng had taken in his past life.

In Yan Rufeng’s previous life, he only had these two disciples.

When Yan Rufeng first met them, it was in the depths of a mountain range on Canglong Star...

"Wah wah~"

"Sister, our parents are gone, what are we supposed to do now!"

"Little sister, don’t be afraid, I’ll take care of you..."

"Hmm."

"Why are there people here?"

Yan Rufeng, who made a living by hunting Demon Beasts for Spirit Stones, walked over out of curiosity and soon saw two fair-skinned little girls, both around three or four years old.

The two little girls were dirty all over, looking like two pitiful stray cats.

Looking at their shimmering eyes, Yan Rufeng gently asked, "What are you doing here? Where are your parents?"

The smaller girl, slightly fearful, moved her body and hid behind the older girl, not daring to look directly at Yan Rufeng.

The older girl spoke innocently, "We woke up and found ourselves here. We don’t know where our parents went."

The girl had a delicate high nose and a pouting full mouth, looking both pretty and cute.

Yan Rufeng furrowed his brows and kindly said, "Little sisters, this is a deep mountain forest where Demon Beasts roam. How about I take you home?"

Both little girls, hearing the word "home," immediately cried out, "Yes, yes!"

Yan Rufeng smiled.

"Do you know where your home is?"

The older girl said, "Home is home, it’s just at home!"

"Ha!"

Yan Rufeng shook his head and thought, "They don’t even know where their home is. It seems they were left here intentionally. How pitiful..."

Yan Rufeng gently asked, "Little sister, what are your names?"

The older girl replied, "My name is Qingxiao, and this is my younger sister, Jiayao."

The smaller girl added, "My name is Jiayao; Qingxiao is my sister!"

"Ha!"

Yan Rufeng smiled and said, "Qingxiao, Jiayao, would you like your big brother to take you out of here?"

Qingxiao asked cutely, "Big brother, will you take us home?"

Yan Rufeng hesitated for a moment and said, "I’ll take you to my home, is that okay?"

Qingxiao bit her lip lightly, thought for a moment, and then smiled, "Okay, we’ll go to big brother’s home."

Yan Rufeng took Qingxiao and Jiayao out of the deep mountains. Along the way, he asked many questions but couldn’t find out where their home was. From their words, he gathered that they might have been born into an illustrious cultivation family...

Eventually, Yan Rufeng accepted Qingxiao and Jiayao as his disciples. The year he ascended to the Immortal World, he brought them both to the Immortal Domain.

To his surprise, it was because of Jiayao and Qingxiao in his past life that foreign enemies coveted his Divine Cultivation Technique. Outnumbered and outpowered, Yan Rufeng and his wife, Yi Mu, tragically self-destructed in desperation...

...

Unconsciously, Yan Rufeng walked into the shop, his gaze never leaving that hairpin.

"Sir, this hairpin is not for sale," the shopkeeper suddenly announced, startling Yan Rufeng.

"Manager, could you please show me that hairpin?"

"Sir, you may look but not touch."

"Uh!"

Yan Rufeng looked closer and muttered, "It’s exactly the same!"

The shopkeeper asked in confusion, "Sir, have you seen a hairpin like this before?"

Yan Rufeng nodded.

"Ha ha!"

The shopkeeper laughed, "Sir, if you’ve seen it before, it must have been in our shop!"

Yan Rufeng hesitated and replied, "This is my first time in Dragon Origin City!"

"Ha!"

The shopkeeper scoffed, "Sir, if this is your first time in Dragon Origin City, then I guarantee you’ve never seen this hairpin’s style elsewhere!"

"Oh!"

Yan Rufeng smiled.

"What makes you say that?"

The shopkeeper slowly explained, "Because this hairpin’s style and material are unique. There is only one like it in this world now."

Yan Rufeng didn’t argue and thought to himself, "This hairpin’s material is the same as Qingxiao and Jiayao’s. Both were carved from the Fire Peacock’s tail bone, with the top inlaid with ten-thousand-year-old Ice Jade. Though rare, it shouldn’t be unique. What’s going on here...?"

Yan Rufeng smiled.

"How do you know?"

The shopkeeper smiled, "Sir, do you know what material this hairpin is carved from?"

Yan Rufeng calmly replied, "Manager, if I’m not mistaken, this hairpin’s body is carved from the Fire Peacock’s tail bone, and the three blue gemstones at the top are ten-thousand-year-old Ice Jade!"

"Ha ha..."

The shopkeeper laughed heartily, "Sharp eyes, sir."

Yan Rufeng calmly stated, "Manager, though these materials are unusual, they can’t be so unique that there’s only one such hairpin in the entire world, can they?"

"Ha ha!"

The shopkeeper scoffed, "Sir, don’t you know the Fire Peacock’s tail bone is of the Fire attribute, and the ten-thousand-year-old Ice Jade is of the Ice attribute?"

Yan Rufeng calmly replied, "Of course I know that."

With a mocking tone, the shopkeeper continued, "If you know that, then tell me, who else in this world could fuse materials of such opposing attributes?"

"Ha!"

Yan Rufeng chuckled, "Manager, are you saying this hairpin wasn’t refined by someone? Could it have been naturally formed?"

"Hmph!"

The shopkeeper snorted coldly, "Young man, that’s meaningless. The refiner of this hairpin has been dead for nearly ten thousand years."

Yan Rufeng was taken aback and thought, "Ten thousand years? It can’t be a coincidence. From the time I met those two disobedient disciples, Qingxiao and Jiayao, it’s been nearly ten thousand years. Could the one who made their hairpins be the same as this one..."

"Phew!"

Yan Rufeng let out a long breath, thinking, "That’s impossible. This is Dragon Origin Star, and I met them on Canglong Star..."

Yan Rufeng couldn’t understand and asked in confusion, "Manager, may I boldly ask if you know who the refiner of this Jade hairpin was?"
