Chapter 76: This Matter Is Not As Simple As It Seems
As soon as the soldier said this, another soldier standing next to him rolled his eyes and said, "Brother, did you forget that we need to pay for the water and vegetables? Do you think we have money now? Since the end of the world began, we don’t even have a salary."
Hearing what he said, the soldiers sighed at the same time. As he said, they really had no money on them. After a moment of silence, one of them said, "If we don’t have money, then let’s hunt the zombies around the base. No matter what, we still have to clean up those zombies."
After listening to his suggestion, the others thought about it and nodded in agreement. Then he sighed again and said, "There’s no point in us talking about this. If she decides to leave, all our effort will all be for naught."
Another soldier thought for a while and said, "It would be great if she could stay in our base. But we all know the current situation in our base. Besides, haven’t we seen a lot of supernatural beings leave our base these days? I doubt a team as strong as this one will stay here."
Hearing his words, the soldiers looked at the outer ring area and sighed again. Within two days of the sudden heat stroke incident, more than half of the ordinary citizen population died, as did thirty percent of the soldiers. Without supplies and enough manpower, they simply had no way of clearing the corpses scattered around the base.
Seeing their gloomy expressions, one of them clenched his hands and suddenly said, "If those supernatural beings left our base because they were afraid of the plague, then what we have to do is to prevent this from happening."
After finishing speaking, he pointed to the outer ring area and said, "Since our best survival option is that young woman, then we must try our best to keep her here. Brothers, let’s clean up that area!"
The soldiers looked at his eyes filled with fighting spirits, then raised their hands and said in unison: "Yeah!"
The soldiers stationed on the walls and gates are all supernatural beings. Although their ability is still low rank, they have an advantage in numbers.
Leaving a few of them guarding the wall and gates, other soldiers gather the intact corpses in one place to be burned later, while the soldiers with fire element abilities patrol the outer ring area and burn the rotten and deformed corpses. While the soldiers were working tirelessly to clean the corpses, Zhu Lin and others arrived at the military camp.
After getting out of the car, Zhu Lin looked around and found that the military camp was larger than she had imagined. There were several buildings on the right side, and she could see a lot of soldiers going in and out of those buildings.
Looking to the other side, she saw countless military vehicles parked under the tin roof. Not far away from there, Zhu Lin saw several groups of soldiers training in an empty building.
While she was looking around, Zheng Yimu said, "Let’s go to the supply station first."
With Zheng Yimu personally leading them, no one stopped them when they walked into the supply station. Seeing them walking in, the soldiers in the supply station all stopped working and saluted Zheng Yimu.
After Zheng Yimu returned their salute, one of them walked up to him with a report and said, "Captain Zheng, all the goods have been delivered today. The hospital issued an emergency request again. They asked us to deliver more ice and medicine as soon as possible. Last night, several patients with high fever were admitted to the hospital one after another."
Zheng Yimu took the report from the soldier, checked it for a moment, and asked, "Have you found out the details of those patients?"
The soldier shook his head and said, "The nurses won’t let me see the patients. Judging from the way they treat the newly admitted patients, I suspect these patients didn’t suffer from heat stroke."
Hearing his words, Zheng Yimu raised his eyes to look at the soldier and asked, "What do you mean?"
The soldier hesitated for a moment before saying, "When I delivered the last batch of medicines to the hospital this morning, I happened to see the nurses moving those patients to the isolation room. If these patients had heat stroke, why did they need to be isolated? I’m afraid that this matter is not as simple as it seems."
Thinking of those unattended corpses scattered around the base, Zheng Yimu’s eyes flickered and he thought to himself: ’I hope it’s not a plague. It seems that I should report this matter to Commander Mao as soon as possible. But before that, I have to secure the deal with Miss Zhu first.’
After thinking for a while, he looked at the soldier again and said, "In five minutes, I want everyone to gather at the training ground."
The soldier took the report and said, "Yes, Sir."
Zheng Yimu then looked at Zhu Lin and asked, "Miss Zhu, can you teach all the soldiers working under the Supply Division?"
Zhu Lin came here with the purpose to teach the soldiers how to use the talisman and spells. Since Zheng Yimu is very cooperative, she will not refuse his request. Also, the more people who can use the talismans, the better their chances of survival.
Furthermore, her main purpose is to help these humans. If they can really learn how to use the talismans and spells, then that purpose can be said to have been achieved.
"Mhm. Teaching one person or many people is the same to me." She said calmly.
Zheng Yimu was very surprised when he heard her answer. When he asked her this question, he didn’t expect her to agree to teach the soldiers. If anyone else had the same skills as her, they would keep it a secret and not let anyone know. What’s more, Zhu Lin is willing to teach them without asking for anything in return.
