Chapter 279: Interrogation
The two soldiers threw the unconscious and bloody man to the ground. Then, they scanned the prison room for a while before turning to look at the man who was covering his head and groaning in pain behind the door. The two soldiers looked at each other momentarily and then grabbed the man’s hands simultaneously.
The man was startled by their sudden actions. While struggling hard, he questions them in horror: "What are you going to do to me?! Let me go! Let me go!"
After dragging him out of the prison room, a soldier closed and locked the heavy metal door. Seeing that it was his turn to be tortured, the man trembled all over, struggled desperately, and begged the soldiers: "Please let me go! I don’t know anything! Let me go!"
As his screams became further and further away, the people in the small prison room looked at the men and women lying unconscious on the ground, covered in blood.
After a moment of eerie and suffocating silence, one of them suddenly muttered in a desperate voice: "I should never have taken this job. Who said that people in the Wu Lin Base are all kind-hearted people? These people are clearly demons hiding behind human faces!"
After hearing what he said, everyone else had the same thought as him. Before long, screams came from the torture room not far away from there, and everyone fell into silence. Despair and fear slowly took over their hearts, causing their sanity to collapse.
Back in the torture room, Ji Yang and Tan Wei sat on chairs and watched Teng Bai torture the prisoner. Seeing the smoldering hot iron rod on Teng Bai’s hands, Tan Wei clicked his tongue, moved closer to Ji Yang, and whispered: "People trained in the army are indeed different from us ordinary civilians. Their mentality is way stronger than that of ordinary people."
Ji Yang glanced at him and asked, "What do you mean?"
Tan Wei pointed to the hot iron rod in Teng Bai’s hand and said, "Look at Captain Teng’s expression. He has been torturing those prisoners since last night, but when he picked up the hot iron rod, he could still smile. If it were you or me, I don’t think we could do what he did."
Ji Yang nodded and watched Teng Bai take a few steps closer to the prisoner tied to the metal cross. Teng Bai raised the iron rod, showed the end of the iron rod that had been heated until it turned bright yellow to the man, and said with a slight smile: "I will ask you again. What is your purpose in causing trouble at our base?"
The man looked at the hot iron rod in horror, shook his head desperately, and said, "I don’t know! I really don’t know!"
Hearing his answer, Teng Bai sighed and said, "You just gave up your last chance."
After saying that, he slowly pressed the end of the hot iron on the man’s shoulder.
Chss~
"Argh!!"
When the hot iron was pressed against that man’s shoulder, the skin and flesh immediately turned white and blistered. Thick smoke rose from where the hot iron had been pressed against the body, and the smell of burnt flesh filled the torture room.
The man screamed in pain for a few seconds, and then everything went black. Seeing that the man had fainted from the pain, Teng Bai took back the iron rod on his shoulder and threw it into the charcoal stove near the metal cross.
He looked at a soldier standing on the door and said calmly: "Wake him up."
The soldier nodded and scooped a bowl of salt water from the bucket in the corner of the room. Then he approached the metal cross, stood in front of the man, and carefully poured salt water over the white colored flesh so he wouldn’t waste even a drop of salted water.
Two seconds later, the man woke up from the unbearable pain and screamed again: "Argh!"
As soon as he woke up, the soldier stopped pouring the salt water and poured the remaining salt water back into the bucket. Seeing how carefully he did everything, Tan Wei couldn’t help but comment: "He treats the salt water more gently than he treats those prisoners."
Hearing his words, the soldier looked at Tan Wei and said without expression: "Salt and water are very precious. We should not waste them."
Tan Wei was speechless when he heard the soldier’s words. "..."
A few seconds later, the man raised his eyes and looked at Teng Bai. After gasping heavily for a while, he opened his pale lips and said feebly: "I, I... really don’t know anything... I... thought... I could get some... supplies... as long as... I follow... ...his demands."
After hearing what he said, Teng Bai walked up to him and asked, "He? Who is he?"
The man knew that his only chance of survival was to tell the truth, so he said, "It’s... the middle-aged captain. He... he told me– as long as I obey him and do what he says, he– he will give me one month’s supplies. I... only did this because I– I really needed the supplies he promised me..."
After saying this, the man endured the pain in his body and took a deep breath. Seeing that this was all he knew, Teng Bai looked at the soldier and said, "Treat his injuries and send him to Sector A. He will be detained in the underground prison until we find the mastermind."
When the man heard that he was not sent back to the prison like the others but was sent to the underground prison in Sector A, he closed his eyes, sighed tremblingly, and thought: ’This is great. At least I can still live for now. Fortunately, these people are not unreasonable. As long as they find the mastermind, I can survive. If they can’t find the mastermind, I could just spend the winter in prison without worrying about food and water.’
