Chapter 268: Lei Haozhan’s Excitement

Hearing what Xiu Wu said, Lei Haozhan just smiled. He motioned for them to sit down and asked, "So, what brings the two of you here today?"

Sitting on the sofa in front of Lei Haozhan, Xiu Wu said calmly: "We are planning to clean up the zombies around S City. Because we are using newly developed bombs, we need to lure them to a place, and that place is the airport in the S City."

After speaking, he observed Lei Haozhan’s expression. After a moment of silence, Lei Haozhan asked with a smile: "So... Captain Xiu wants me to help you lure the zombies toward the airport?"

Xiu Wu nodded and then took out the branches of the Phoenix Tree from his Qiankun bag. Placing the black branches on the low table between the two of them, Xiu Wu said, "If Young Master Lei agrees to help us lure the zombies, then you can–"

Before Xiu Wu finished speaking, Lei Haozhan had already spoken: "I agree."

Hearing his quick answer, Xiu Wu raised his eyebrows slightly. Seeing the excitement hidden in Lei Haozhan’s red eyes, Xiu Wu observed him for a while and then said, "Since Young Master Lei has agreed to help us, please lure the zombies to the airport before noon today."

Lei Haozhan nodded to Xiu Wu while carefully examining the branches of the Phoenix Tree and said, "No problem. Just leave this matter to me, Captain Xiu."

After saying that, he focused all his attention on the black branches on top of the low table and ignored Xiu Wu and Zhu Lin. Seeing his strange behavior, Xiu Wu and Zhu Lin looked at each other in confusion.

Seeing that they had nothing important to tell Lei Haozhan anymore, Xiu Wu took Zhu Lin’s hand and stood up. He looked at Lei Haozhan and said, "There are still many things to prepare, so we will take our leave now."

After hearing his words, Lei Haozhan came out of his thoughts. He coughed slightly out of embarrassment, stood up, and said, "Then I won’t see the two of you off. Captain Xiu, Miss Zhu, please walk slowly."

After the two of them left his small house, Lei Haozhan sat back on the sofa. As he carefully touched the black branches on the low table, he muttered in excitement: "With these black branches, more zombies can be turned back into humans. It’s really like having someone give me a pillow when I’m sleepy."

Not knowing that Lei Haozhan misunderstood that the branches of the Phoenix Tree that they gave him were as rewards and not bait to lure the zombies, Zhu Lin asked doubtfully: "Don’t you think Young Master Lei’s behavior today is very strange?"

Xiu Wu nodded and said, "Mhm. I found that when I took out the branches of the Phoenix Tree, he acted as if he had seen a very precious treasure. I even doubted my eyes when I saw the excitement he was trying to conceal inside his eyes."

Listening to his words, Zhu Lin fell into deep thought. After a long silence, she turned to look at Xiu Wu and said, "I have a feeling that the branches of the Phoenix Tree are very valuable to Young Master Lei and the other zombies. Judging from Young Master Lei’s behavior just now, he seems to know how to use the branches of the Phoenix Tree and the effect of those branches on zombies."

Xiu Wu recalled Lei Haozhan’s reaction when he saw the branches of the Phoenix Tree and said, "I have the same thought as you. If you are curious, after we are done with the zombies and the secret laboratories, we can visit Lei Haozhan and ask him about the branches of the Phoenix Tree."

Zhu Lin nodded and said, "Mhm. Let’s do as you said."

The two of them were busy discussing Lei Haozhan and the branches of Phoenix Tree, and they arrived at the public office before they knew it. When Tan Wei saw the two of them coming, he waved to them and said, "Lao Xiu, Xiao Lin, we are done with the preparations. We can leave at any time now."

Xiu Wu glanced at his watch and said, "Then we will set off in thirty minutes. We will gather at the military camp and then leave together with the soldiers."

Tan Wei nodded and left to inform others. Looking at the busy staff and supernatural beings, Zhu Lin thought for a while and asked, "Xiu Wu, which team are you assigned to for this mission?"

"Bombing Team." He replied without thinking.

After answering her, he paused for a few seconds. Xiu Wu turned to look at Zhu Lin, narrowed his eyes slightly, and asked, "Lin’er, why do you ask about this?"

Zhu Lin did not answer his question, but asked, "Can I see the bomb?"

Xiu Wu looked at her calm expression and asked, "Lin’er, what are you planning right now?"

Since God cannot lie, Zhu Lin always chooses to remain silent when she needs to lie. As someone who had known her for longer than she could remember, Xiu Wu was well aware of all her habits.

Seeing her looking away without saying anything, Xiu Wu said, "There’s nothing special about that bomb. It’s just a small black ball the size of a quail egg."

After saying that, Xiu Wu thought for a few seconds, held her hand, and asked, "Will you follow me on this mission?"

Zhu Lin looked at him in surprise, tilted her head slightly, and asked, "Can I really go with you?"

Xiu Wu nodded and said with a smile: "Of course."

Seeing her smiling face when she heard his answer, Xiu Wu thought to himself: ’It’s better for you to stay with me than for you to run around by yourself later.’

Thirty minutes later, more than a dozen military vehicles left the Wu Lin base. Looking anxiously at the long convoy of military vehicles, ordinary people talked in low voices amongst themselves. Since there was no official announcement from the base, people had no way of knowing what happened and could only guess while waiting anxiously.
