Chapter 1160: Chapter 408: The calamity of the ancient dragon!
After learning from the lessons of his father’s first calamity, Li Ping’an suspected that the White-robed Celestial Emperor destined for this calamity was his own father. He immediately made his way to Dong’an City to confront Li Dazhi directly.
As soon as Guilingling arrived in Dong’an City, she disappeared entirely. She was either looking for food or had already returned to Azure Wander Palace.
Li Ping’an did not let the Roc Bird notify anyone else; he planned to visit the two elder sisters later.
Li Dazhi greeted him with a teasing smile: “Yo, graduated already!”
“Graduated? The first semester just ended.”
Li Ping’an chuckled and sighed: “The next semester won’t start for another hundred years. Dad, look at this.”
He rolled up his right sleeve and threw a fierce punch forward.
A measured force—but not enough to split the heavens.
The space ahead showed faint distortions, and an invisible blast rippled outwards. Though the furnishings in the room remained undisturbed, the punch’s aftereffect condensed into a shadow outside, stirring a whirlwind that caused the protective formation of Dong’an City to flicker faintly.
Even though Li Dazhi wasn’t adept at magical combat, he could discern its intricacies. He praised, “What tremendous physical strength! You didn’t use any spiritual power just now?”
“Uh-huh!”
Li Ping’an casually flicked his Daoist robe’s hem, sat down with composure, and adopted the demeanor of a master. He grinned: “Dad, my power now surpasses yours. How about I try transferring some skills to you?”
“Get out of here! Go focus on your own cultivation!”
Li Dazhi laughed and scolded him: “You’ve gained some luck and now you’re showing off to your dad. What happened to your cautious, dignified demeanor?”
“There’s no one else here.”
Li Ping’an lowered his gaze thoughtfully and naturally transitioned to the main topic of the day.
“Dad, during my cultivation, the father-son divine skill activated again. It foretold that you’re about to face another calamity.”
“Me? A calamity?”
Li Dazhi couldn’t help but feel a little bewildered.
His primordial spirit left his body and entered Li Ping’an’s Spirit Platform; Li Ping’an no longer concealed the glow in the corner, allowing Li Dazhi to examine it closely.
At first glance, Li Dazhi grew tense upon seeing the glow.
There was no other reason. At a glance, it was clear that the one decapitated in the calamity by Xingtian was Li Ping’an.
But he soon realized something important… the White-robed Celestial Emperor he had impersonated earlier…
This was a father-son divine skill, and with Li Ping’an’s previous words, Li Dazhi instinctively concluded that the person decapitated would be himself in his guise as the new Heavenly Emperor.
“Ah, this!”
Li Dazhi was utterly speechless and remarked: “I was just minding my own business, focusing on economic development and internal propaganda, and now there’s another calamity.”
“Let’s discuss this outside,” Li Ping’an suggested.
Li Dazhi’s primordial spirit returned to his body.
Li Ping’an began: “Firstly, Dad, don’t be too anxious. Xingtian is already under my control—I’ve confined him in the Misty Realm. On the surface, I claim to be taking care of him, but in reality, I’m monitoring his every move.”
Li Dazhi sighed and replied: “Why would I be nervous? This divine skill activated last time too. I didn’t die then; instead, the Sect Leader exchanged his life for mine.”
“Oh,” Li Ping’an sighed faintly.
If only he had possessed the power to establish the Heavenly Court back then, he might have been able to preserve a sliver of the Sect Leader’s soul and send it to reincarnate in the hidden depths of the Sea of Blood.
Yet, it wasn’t his or his father’s fault.
Time had simply been against them.
Li Ping’an consoled his father: “Such forewarnings indicate hope for surviving the calamity. This means there’s no need to dwell on it overly–just prepare more, plan thoroughly, and we can mitigate disaster and avert misfortune. However, Dad, you must act cautiously moving forward. Avoid wandering about unnecessarily and remain within places fortified by protective arrays.”
“Alright, alright. No need to worry!”
Li Dazhi waved his hand dismissively: “I value my life too much to take risks lightly. But how could this calamity even occur?
“I’m supposed to impersonate you, and Xingtian has to be the one to strike me down. Both Xingtian and the Witch Clan have already sworn loyalty to the Heavenly Court; they shouldn’t have any grievances left.”
“Should we inform Houtu about this?”
“There’s no need.”
A trace of hesitation flickered in Li Ping’an’s eyes: “Even if we inform Houtu, she’s unlikely to eliminate Xingtian outright.
“I’ve investigated thoroughly before. Xingtian, who resurrected after death, losing his head in battle against the Heavenly Emperor, is regarded as a hero by the Witch Clan, enjoying immense prestige.
“Xingtian’s most unique aspect is his immunity to the Heavenly Dao’s influence. Even the Inner Heavenly Dao couldn’t assimilate him back then. I’ve secretly experimented with him several times; it turns out he can resist the power of the Heavenly Dao.
“Furthermore, I suspect he’s achieved a type of immortality—a state of undying and indestructible existence… though this is just my personal suspicion.”
Li Dazhi furrowed his brows and said: “Xingtian hasn’t committed any wrongdoing, yet from the way you talk, it sounds like you’re close to dissecting him outright.”
Li Ping’an gave a sheepish laugh.
“Don’t worry, I’ll never harm the feelings of our Witch Clan allies. I’m merely making minor preparations in light of the approaching calamity.”
“Hmm? Didn’t you say this calamity is new… and earlier you assumed it was yours?”
“Yes.”
Li Ping’an answered softly, his eyes reflecting resignation.
Li Dazhi shook his head with a wry smile, choosing not to say more. The father and son sat in silence, with the thin, curling smoke rising from their teacups. Neither knew what to say next.
Stillness enveloped Dong’an tonight.
“Dad, is everything in the Heavenly Court going smoothly?”
Li Dazhi answered: “What could be wrong? The Queen Mother manages things meticulously. Outside Misty Realm, there are already twelve smaller worlds, and the Dragon Clan’s merits are due.”
Li Ping’an nodded, closed his eyes, concentrated, and sent his primordial spirit to Lingxiao Hall. He opened a piece of divine cloth, wrote decrees, and with a wave of his brush, allocated two-tenths of the Heavenly Dao’s stored merits to settle the previous phase’s ‘accounts’ with the Dragon Clan.
He then issued two more decrees, exhausting a total of four-and-a-half-tenths of the Heavenly Dao’s merits to complete the remaining allocations for the Jie Sect, Chan Teaching, and prominent figures of the Human Race.
—In truth, all he needed to do was mark the decree with a check. The Heavenly Dao had precise records detailing these figures’ respective contributions and their rightful shares.
