Li Ping’an’s thoughts flickered as he continued to shuffle alongside Lady Ba across the narrow trail on the cliff, moving closer to the rear of the Immortal Palaces.

The roars of beasts rang out from the front of the island.

The first wave of several hundred celestial thralls had already started clashing with the guards stationed here.

Everything was unfolding exactly as he and Lady Ba had anticipated during their previous tactical planning.

The clash up front was merely a distraction to draw the attention of the Inner Heavenly Dao’s divine spirits; the real killing blow would be their ambush from behind.

Of course, this was the Illusionary Realm of the Inner Heavenly Dao, essentially its territory, so Li Ping’an and Lady Ba were prepared for any unforeseen situations.

Right now, they were gambling that Inner Heavenly Dao elites like Xihe and Wangshu hadn’t spotted their movements.

A fierce battle was inevitable.

Striking first would offer the advantage.

The ambush squad was composed of elite celestial thralls, including Yin Kui the Great and Cailin the Great.

At the forefront, Yin Kui the Great signaled with a gesture, prompting the dozen or so figures to halt their movements and stand quietly against the cliff.

Heavy stomping sounds echoed from above.

A herd of stone beasts charged forward, kicking up clouds of dust as they barreled ahead.

Li Ping’an muttered to himself:

“Could this be a trap luring us in?”

“Do these creatures really not sense someone sneaking in?”

“They’re considered natives here—can they not use mystical senses, Immortal Consciousness?

Or are they just single-minded, unable to be judged by a normal creature’s perspective?”

Lady Ba suddenly spoke: “There’s a powerful surge of Spiritual Power at the main hall.

Xihe and Wangshu’s remnant souls have returned from outside.”

Li Ping’an lowered his voice and muttered: “Could it be that the strongest divine spirits of the Inner Heavenly Dao were all out until just now?”

“Most likely,” Lady Ba said, visibly eager.

“What do you think?

Should we attack directly?”

“Attack!”

Li Ping’an hefted his massive battle axe and murmured:

“But let’s approach quietly for now.

If they detect us, we’ll charge in at full speed—capture the ringleader to control the situation!”

Lady Ba chuckled and asked, “And what if we can’t win?”

“Then let the demon ox break the chains and release Minghe the Old Ancestor,” Li Ping’an said with a fierce glint in his eyes.

“There’s no time to overthink right now; staying alive is the top priority.”

“Alright,” Lady Ba’s eyes gleamed brightly.

“Who knows what’s happening outside—we need to wrap this up quickly.”

The group responded in unison, then began climbing up the cliff together.

Soon, they scaled the cliff, crawled forward stealthily, and entered the maze-like palace complex, creeping toward Xihe’s main hall.

The large halls scattered around were desolate; indeed, the dozens of Inner Heavenly Dao divine spirits residing here were absent.

Many halls contained rows of stone-figure guards, who appeared to have once served as loyal attendants of the Ancient Heavenly Court’s officials.

Li Ping’an’s heart stirred, prompting him to signal the nearby experts to update their gear.

Weapons usable within the Inner Heavenly Dao were mostly ‘condensed’ by the realm itself.

Before long, the dozen figures, now fully armed, crouched and crept toward the railings outside the main hall.

Li Ping’an made a gesture.

Yin Kui the Great cupped his hands in response, then cautiously lifted his head to peer into the hall.

The hall was shrouded in dense Heavenly Dao energy but lacked any Formation defenses, likely because the Inner Heavenly Dao divine spirits saw no need for Protective Arrays—or lacked the ‘autonomy’ to create them.

Yin Kui the Great glanced around before his expression suddenly changed.

He promptly crouched back down and cupped his hands toward Li Ping’an.

Clad in divine armor at this moment, he did indeed cut an imposing figure.

He whispered: “Your Majesty, there’s an issue.”

“What issue?”

“It’s…

well…”

Yin Kui the Great seemed at a loss for words, his handsome features reddening.

After much fumbling, he squeezed out:

“It’s a bit…

provocative.”

Li Ping’an, Lady Ba, and the other celestial thralls exchanged a flurry of questioning looks.

After being freed, the typically reticent Cailin the Great furrowed her brows and snapped at him disapprovingly before leaning forward to take a look herself.

Moments later, Cailin the Great crouched back down and murmured: “Not very proper.”

Lady Ba asked: “What did you both see?

Isn’t this the hall of Xihe and Wangshu’s remnant souls?”

With that, she leaned forward to look, but immediately pulled back, turning to Li Ping’an with an expression that suggested she was unsure whether to speak.

“What’s wrong?”

Li Ping’an felt utterly baffled.

Lady Ba raised a hand to rub her forehead: “They weren’t wrong—there’s definitely something improper going on.

One party appears rather…

coquettish.

You’d better see for yourself and prepare mentally.”

Li Ping’an felt utterly confused.

He cautiously poked his head out and, within moments, his expression morphed through several stages: ‘shocked speechless,’ ‘existential crisis,’ and finally the resigned realization of, ‘Is this really happening?’ His face settled into an expression of sheer exasperation.

He quietly crouched back down.

To be honest, he had imagined many scenarios for reuniting with his father after escaping capture.

He wanted to explain to his father that his actions weren’t reckless but had been carefully planned to exploit a loophole and lure the Outer Heavenly Dao into the fray.

He also wanted to tell his father he was abandoning notions of moral restraint, opting instead to mobilize the celestial thralls into an army to conquer new territories.

He hoped to reassure his father he wouldn’t act so recklessly again.

But—Li Ping’an, soon-to-be Heavenly Emperor, had truly never anticipated…

That he would encounter Old Li here!

And not just that—Old Li was…

whispering sweet nothings, entwined in lustful indulgence with Xihe and Wangshu, the two Ancient Heavenly Court queens…

Li Ping’an suddenly recalled how he’d reacted with embarrassment when Lady Ba had expressed affection toward him, hesitating because of his thin-skinned nature.

For the first time, he felt a surge of deep regret.
