If You Could Hear My Heart
Chapter 1404: Cry for the Last Time

Chapter 1404: Chapter 1404: Cry for the Last Time

"Get lost!" Xia Chuqing hurled a pack of tissues at him.

The boy dodged, avoiding the flying tissues, but still couldn’t help asking with concern, "Are you really crying? Who bullied you? Where’s that lunatic? Watch me beat him up."

"He left when you came?" Xia Chuqing asked.

"Who? When I arrived, there was a man at the door, but he didn’t seem crazy. Suited and booted, quite handsome actually." Song Heng thought for a bit, "Oh, and he asked me to give you your phone, said he picked it up."

"Song Heng, do you even have a brain? Are you a pig?" Xia Chuqing was furious.

"Miss Xia, I really can’t figure out you women’s thoughts, including yours!" Song Heng said, "Eh, could it be that man was—?"

"Did you bring an umbrella?"

"Yes, I did."

"Fine, leave the umbrella and you can get lost."

"Miss Xia, that’s not very nice, is it? Using me and then telling me to leave? I was sleeping soundly when your call came, and I rushed over without a word, how considerate of me. Not to mention, braving such heavy rain." Song Heng said, gesturing exaggeratedly.

"If you don’t want me to tell Uncle Song about you getting into a bar fight and hurting your leg, then scram."

"Damn, that was two years ago!"

"So what if it was two years ago, at least Uncle Song will assign a few bodyguards to watch you every day!" Xia Chuqing threatened him, glaring at him.

"You you you, such a lack of brotherhood. Fine, I’ll throw you the umbrella, but the next time you call me... no, there won’t be a next time!" Song Heng stormed off in a huff.

"Farewell, not seeing you out."

Xia Chuqing tidied up the things on the table, and finally felt a little happier.

Arguing with Song Heng always was a cheerful affair, but it’s a pity that after so many years there was still no spark.

Song Heng has a girlfriend he’s secretly dating, named Yingying; and she now has a man that makes her heart flutter, named Xiao Mo.

Unfortunately, due to issues of status, Song Heng and Yingying often end up unhappy, and there’s no hope for her and Xiao Mo either.

They often joked that if in another ten years neither of them were married, they might just settle for each other.

By the time Song Heng reached the entrance to the library, Xia Chuqing was there too.

He turned his head to look at her, deliberately saying, "Are you sure you don’t need me to escort you home? With the rain pouring down like this, by the time you get back, you’ll be drenched like a soaked chicken."

"No need!" Xia Chuqing opened the umbrella and directly walked into the rain.

"Stronger temper than even mine, how do I put up with you." Song Heng whistled.

Xia Chuqing truly underestimated the amount of rainfall; just a few steps out and both her shoes and the lower part of her trousers were soaked.

Moreover, the wind was strong, and the sky was punctuated by the occasional bright streak of lightning.

Xia Chuqing was a little scared, especially at times when lightning struck.

Also, the weather at night was particularly cold. She wished she had known better and stayed in tonight, possibly reading in the dormitory. At least she wouldn’t have encountered any lunatics.

Song Heng also got into his car and, watching Xia Chuqing’s slender figure walking in the rain, he felt like he lacked gentlemanly grace.

So, he carefully drove the car up beside her, braving the rain to roll down the window: "Come on in! It’s a long way from here to the dormitory!"

"Stop following me, go back to sleep." Xia Chuqing refused, "Thanks though."

"Really, what a stubborn temper. Just wait till you catch a cold tomorrow and start crying; then don’t come asking me to run errands for you!"

"Say it one more time, do you believe I can drag you out of there?"

Xia Chuqing walked up to his car, prying the window open with one hand while pretending to reach in to drag him out with the other.

"Alright, alright, I’m scared of you, Miss. I’m leaving. Call me if you need anything, as you’ve got something on me. No, I truly do care about you." Song Heng winked at Xia Chuqing and whistled before finally driving away.

Song Heng was actually very worried about Xia Chuqing, but he also knew very well that Chuqing was so stubborn that once she had made up her mind, not even ten bulls could pull her back.

If he continued pestering her, she might really do something drastic like dragging him out of the car.

Thinking about this, Song Heng shook his head with a smile.

Watching Song Heng’s car disappear into the curtain of rain, Chuqing suddenly felt an urge to cry.

The rain poured down around her, and she walked alone through it, her silhouette lonely and forlorn.

The road was quiet, and she saw no one after walking a great distance. She had experienced this kind of loneliness and solitude many times before, but it was the first time she wanted to cry, to weep uncontrollably.

Is it that no one would notice her tears in the rain, because the raindrops and tears are indistinguishable...

Chuqing really did cry, crying without any reservations or restraint.

She hadn’t dared to cry out loud in the restroom, but here, she could.

It was very late, and there was not a soul in sight, with only the sound of the torrential rain and the occasional rumble of thunder around her.

Her cries were soon drowned out by the sounds of the thunder and rain. For the first time, she cried so bitterly, so heartbrokenly.

She wondered if her life had been too smooth for the past twenty-odd years, so much so that fate had sent Xiao Mo to torment her.

She loved him, truly loved him, yet he didn’t understand.

For the first time, she felt a profound sense of loneliness and helplessness from being abandoned, and slowly she squatted down, hiding under a tree and crying.

This place had neither streetlights nor any bright lights, only the occasional flash of lightning illuminating her face.

Her shoulders shook continuously as she cried, telling herself each time that this would be the last, after this no more tears.

But she didn’t know where the real end lay.

Xiao Mo had come tonight purely because he was drunk, or purely to strike at her.

She thought that the place she had worked so hard for was her own achievement, but he told her that it was because he had spoken to someone in charge at the school.

Why did he have the right to scorn her efforts...

And why did he have the right to investigate her family background...

"Asshole, just go away, never come back, I never want to see you again!" Chuqing screamed while crying.

Initially, she had held onto her umbrella, but soon she threw it to the ground, letting the rain soak her clothes.

She didn’t care anymore, she could simply take the day off tomorrow.

At this moment, she had no desire whatsoever to go to the tutoring class to learn French; what was the point of a place obtained like this?

The rain was chillingly cold on her face, cutting into her cheeks like knives, causing a stinging pain.

She hugged her knees, unable to stop shivering.

Soon, the rain drenched her hair, and wet strands clung to her face, a mess.

Eventually, Xiao Mo could no longer remain indifferent. He jumped out of the car, rushed over to her, held the umbrella over her head, and swiftly wrapped his suit jacket around her.
