Chapter 1395: Chapter 1395: A Man and a Woman Alone in a Room
Xia Chuqing rested her chin on her hands, glancing from the food to Xiao Mo and back again.
If it wasn’t for the unpleasant words Xiao Mo said to her yesterday, she might have been smitten by now. After all, how many women can resist the temptation of delicious food and a handsome man...
"Sit down," Xiao Mo said.
"I only bought one box of food, will that be enough for you?" Xia Chuqing asked.
"Not enough." Xiao Mo inexplicably felt very hungry.
"Ah? Since it won’t be enough for you either, why don’t you give it to me?" Xia Chuqing looked eagerly at the box of food in his hand, really hungry.
"There’s rice in the kitchen, cook it yourself."
"How do you usually solve it? You cook for yourself?"
"The company has a place to eat."
"What about on your days off? Do you still stay at the company on your days off?"
"What’s with all the questions?" Xiao Mo glanced at her coldly.
Xia Chuqing pouted, really, it was just a few extra questions. She awkwardly headed to the kitchen, unaware until she went inside, and was startled – the kitchen was spotlessly clean, apparently untouched.
The various ingredients were quite complete, but almost unopened, even the rice hadn’t been opened at all.
"Xiao Mo, do you not eat meals regularly? Your kitchen is cleaner than my pocket," Xia Chuqing clapped her hands, "I’m really touching your stuff, don’t make me pay if I break something, I haven’t cooked much at home either..."
"If you break it, don’t think about leaving." Xiao Mo inexplicably felt good.
Xia Chuqing gave him a white look, if something broke it was just a matter of compensating him, but starving to death would be a big deal.
She was really hungry, caring about nothing, and started busying herself in Xiao Mo’s kitchen.
"You know how to buy rice, but buying it and not eating it, isn’t that wasteful?" Xia Chuqing said offhandedly.
"My mom bought it."
"Hmm? Is your mom here too?" Xia Chuqing felt a bit uneasy.
"No, there’s no one else at home."
"Why do you look so tired?" Xia Chuqing turned to look at him.
"Arguing with you is physically demanding."
"I wasn’t arguing with you, you just didn’t explain clearly yesterday, and besides, didn’t I come here to apologize?" Xia Chuqing said, "But from now on, there won’t be any arguments, I’ve repaid all the favors I owed you."
But Xia Chuqing still felt a bit sad inside, to be even meant that they might not have any more interactions in the future.
Xiao Mo fell silent, his eyebrows tightly furrowed.
A table full of dishes, and he suddenly found them tasteless.
"You eat, I’ll eat once the rice is ready, just leave some dishes for me," Xia Chuqing said.
"I’ll wait for you," Xiao Mo said indifferently.
Xia Chuqing sat down at the dining table, rested her chin on her hands, looked at Xiao Mo and said indifferently, "Xiao Mo, you are the first person who made me cry for days, not even my parents have made me cry like this."
"You are also the first person who made me so angry I couldn’t sleep for days."
"Then we are even now. Yesterday you said you treat me like a sister, and I thought about it, there’s nothing bad about it. Having a rich and powerful brother means at least no one will bully me."
Xiao Mo’s brows furrowed, he stared at her, feeling a sudden urge to retract his words.
Before Xiao Mo could speak, Xia Chuqing changed the subject, fearing she might hear something else that could make her cry, "Why aren’t you at work today?"
"I’m on leave these few days."
"Shen’s has such great benefits! When I graduate, I’ll join your company. You can put in a good word for me."
"Just submit your resume yourself."
"Pfft, I’m not asking you, I’ll go to Sister Chaomu."
"She’s very busy, don’t trouble her for no reason," said Xiao Mo.
"I know, I know, no need to remind me," Xia Chuqing said impatiently, "Just drop me off somewhere with taxis after dinner, and you can go upstairs to sleep, you look exhausted. Young men are always so vigorous, never knowing when to rest."
Xia Chuqing said it on purpose, although she didn’t see any trace of a woman in Xiao Mo’s house at all.
Xiao Mo looked at her, a meaningful gleam in his eyes, and cheekily smiled, "Then, alone together in a room, aren’t you afraid?"
"Afraid? Why should I be? You’re my brother after all."
Xiao Mo’s expression changed instantly, grinding his teeth.
Xia Chuqing wore a proud expression, knowing how sharp-tongued Xiao Mo was, it was rare to see him at a loss for words.
Soon, the rice was ready, and Xia Chuqing helped herself to a bowl and sat down at the table to eat.
She was genuinely hungry, and her mood was rather good today.
Xiao Mo silently began eating too. During the meal, neither spoke; only the fragrant aroma filled the room.
Sometimes Xia Chuqing glanced at Xiao Mo, finding even his way of eating quite elegant.
The lazy, sleepy afternoon air of summer was filled with a casual and silent vibe.
After lunch, as the sun hung slantingly right overhead, bright patches of light fell on the trees in the courtyard, leaves hanging limp, utterly still.
After finishing his meal, Xiao Mo sat on the sofa and casually turned on the TV.
Though not a fan of television, he found it had a hypnotic effect.
Lately, he hadn’t been sleeping well; watching TV helped him relax a bit.
"I’ll leave the leftover food for you, won’t take it with me. That way you won’t have to go out tonight," Xia Chuqing said.
"Why do you care so much," Xiao Mo responded, watching the TV, his expression indifferent and calm.
"..." Xia Chuqing was exasperated, "Fine, fine, pretend I didn’t say anything. I really couldn’t care less, just leaving the food here."
Xia Chuqing knew wealthy men led vibrant nightlife, with constant visits to bars and clubs; she really didn’t need to worry about him unnecessarily.
As Xia Chuqing cleaned up, she prattled on: "Anyway, I’m leaving the food here for you, you can warm it up if you want to eat it tonight, or just throw it out if not. I’ve cleaned up the kitchen for you, it’s getting late, take me back, I still need to review my lessons."
"I’m very sleepy," Xiao Mo said, barely lifting his eyelids, his tone faint.
"You!" Xia Chuqing was angry, "Didn’t we agree? You were supposed to take me back."
"I’ll think about it after a nap," Xiao Mo turned off the TV, stood up, and prepared to head upstairs.
"Just drop me off nearby, I can take a cab back to school. Considering I brought you lunch, can’t you stay awake a bit longer? Hey, hey!"
Xiao Mo straightened his clothing buttons, not looking back as he headed upstairs.
His head was hurting a little right now and he was really not in the mood to send her off.
With a "bang", the bedroom door closed, and Xia Chuqing found neither heaven nor earth responded to her calls.
"Seriously so twisted," Xia Chuqing placed her hands on her hips and looked upstairs, "Never seen someone so unreasonable."
Having no other choice, Xia Chuqing just sat down on the downstairs sofa and silently turned on Xiao Mo’s TV.
"This place doesn’t feel like home, it’s so cold and empty, not even a bottle of water in the fridge, how do you even live like this?" Xia Chuqing muttered, "I’m never coming back again, this is no way to live."
