If You Could Hear My Heart -
Chapter 1300: I’ll Pretend I Never Had This Son
Chapter 1300: Chapter 1300: I’ll Pretend I Never Had This Son
Because it was just an ordinary birthday, not many people were at the Li Family’s doorstep. Plus, the old patriarch himself was not very fond of lively scenes, so it was much quieter by the time Li Beiting arrived.
The remains of firecrackers had not been swept away and lent a festive look to the scene.
Two old servants still stood at the entrance, their hands hanging by their sides and heads bowed, silently guarding the huge doors of the Li Family.
Li Beiting’s car didn’t drive in but stopped at the entrance.
Back then, he had left the Li Family without taking anything, and this car was bought much later with Yu Weiwei. Naturally, it wasn’t as luxurious as the Maserati at the Li Family’s, but it was modest and unassuming.
The old servant mistook him for a guest and came to the car door to bow.
Yu Weiwei’s heart started to feel uneasy, very nervous.
She glanced at Li Beiting, and he grabbed her hand, smiling and saying, "It’s okay, I’m here."
Little Bun didn’t cry, quietly lying in Yu Weiwei’s arms, looking around curiously.
The courtyard of the Li Family was neat and tidy, even wafting a faint scent in the air, and everyone walking about had smiles on their faces.
When the car door opened, surprised flashed across the old servant’s face, "Ah, Young Master."
They hadn’t expected Li Beiting to come, and just like previous birthday banquets, no one had informed him.
It was as if they had excluded this son from their lives, neglecting him completely.
But no one expected that Li Beiting would come in person, and moreover... with his young wife and a child.
Although Li Beiting had lost touch with the Li Family, everyone knew that he had already married Yu Weiwei and had a child.
"Uncle Wang," Li Beiting nodded.
He walked to the passenger side, helped Yu Weiwei out of the car, and took the little bun from her arms.
"Young Master, I shall inform the Old Master and Madam!" The old servant seemed very pleased; after a moment of surprise, he hurried to the living room.
Yu Weiwei grabbed the hem of Li Beiting’s clothes, feeling this unease for the first time.
What happened at the wedding back then, she was not quite clear about, but later hearing it from Li Beiting, she felt... Li Father must really hate her.
If it weren’t for her, the Li Family wouldn’t have lost so much face.
"Old Master, Madam! The Young Master and his wife are back! And the young grandson too!" the old servant called out loudly.
In the living room, conversing with guests, Li Father’s hand trembled, his stern gaze fixed on the door.
Clearly, he had not fully digested this information.
Li Mother reacted quicker, standing up immediately.
Although their faces were somewhat expressionless, their eyes betrayed them, especially Li Mother; in that moment, her eyes shimmered with boundless surprise.
"Where are they?" Li Mother managed to suppress her inner turmoil and asked.
"Just by the entrance," the old servant replied joyfully.
"Sit down!" Li Father said sharply, glancing at Li Mother.
Li Mother moved her lips but, not daring to say anything, took her seat again.
There were some other guests in the living room, all aware of the happenings within the Li Family. Knowing this issue was a sore spot for Li Father, none dared to speak up.
Li Father pretended to hear nothing, continuing to show his collection of paintings to the guests in the living room, "Look here, this mountain appears steep and unfathomable, yet it also represents..."
Li Mother lost interest in listening but didn’t dare to leave, her eyes gradually showing urgency.
She occasionally peeked out the window, but since the living room did not overlook the entrance, she couldn’t see anything.
She could only signal with her eyes to the old servant, who nodded and went out.
Li Beiting and Yu Weiwei were still waiting in the courtyard; the little bun was a bit cold, nestling close in the warmth of Yu Weiwei’s embrace.
"Young Master, please follow me to the guest room to wait for a while, the Old Master is entertaining guests," the old servant said.
"Alright," Li Beiting nodded.
"Hey!"
The old servant led them to the guest room, which was meant for visitors, but Li Beiting didn’t mind.
"Young Master, it has been a long time since I’ve seen you, I’ve missed you. How have you been living outside?" the old servant asked caringly.
"Quite well," Li Beiting didn’t say much.
The old servant led them into the guest room and poured them some tea.
"Please wait momentarily, the Old Master should be here soon," the old servant said.
In reality, he was unsure, as it was clear that Li Father showed no intention of coming.
"Uncle Wang, go ahead with your tasks," Li Beiting nodded.
The old servant left the guest room and went back to the living room.
In the living room, Li Father continued explaining his calligraphy and painting to the guests, while Li Mother wanted to find an excuse to leave but didn’t dare; she was still very afraid of Li Father.
After about fifteen minutes, one of the guests sensed something and stood up, saying, "President Li, sorry, there is an urgent matter I need to handle back at my company."
"Go ahead," Li Father nodded.
The rest of the guests knew what was implied and also began to find excuses to leave.
Fortunately, there weren’t many guests, but Li Father still noticed something.
He remained silent, letting them leave until all the guests had gone.
"Beiting is back," Li Mother then dared to whisper to Li Father.
"Bring the chessboard, play a game with me," Li Father said.
Li Mother was not in the mood for that. She shook her head, "Beiting is back; let’s ask him to come over."
"Who is Beiting? Did I invite this person?" Li Father bluntly said.
"This..." Li Mother was at a loss, "Beiting came back willingly; it wouldn’t be too bad to invite him in to sit... actually..."
"Once gone, don’t come back!" Li Father said incisively.
"He probably realizes his mistake now; don’t be stubborn, let’s give him a chance to apologize, and we can step down gracefully. We can’t always be at odds with our own son. After all, we only have one son," Li Mother reasoned.
"I act as if this son was never born!" Li Father still refused to compromise.
Li Mother knew he was unable to swallow this pride.
Initially, Li Beiting had caused the Li family to lose all their dignity in C City at his wedding, unable to hold their heads high and widely admonished. And in all this, did Beiting ever consider his father?
Then, Li Beiting whimsically abandoned the company and cut ties with the Li Family, all these were unforgivable to Li Father!
"Times have passed; let’s ask him to come over for a sit, have a tea together. It’s been a long time since we as a family sat together," Li Mother spoke calmly, "you have to acknowledge this son, didn’t you dote on him greatly in the past?"
"It’s because I doted on him too much that he’s so insolent now. Did he ever consider me, his father?"
"Let’s let bygones be bygones."
"Impossible!"
"I’ll go meet him then, don’t stop me," Li Mother stood up.
"Sit down!" Li Father commanded sharply.
