Chapter 1264: He Will Never Let Go in This Lifetime
Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264: He Will Never Let Go in This Lifetime
"How do you understand me so well?" Shen Chi raised an eyebrow.
"..." Xu Chaomu simply kept quiet.
Just then, the red light turned green, and Shen Chi drove the car towards home.
The decision Xu Chaomu had made overnight came after learning all the things Shen Chi had been doing secretly for her, she knew that he loved her far more than she had imagined.
He wanted to see Xiaobao every day too, so... she decided to compromise.
A few days later, Xu Chaomu went to Jin City to pack up her things. Having lived there for a whole year, she still felt incredibly sentimental and found it hard to let go.
This time, she was the one who chose to return to Shen Chi’s side. From now on, no matter what happened, they would face it together.
In reality, if she hadn’t known that the baby was still alive, she probably wouldn’t have had the resolve to return to his side.
Since she would eventually need to find a father for Xiaobao anyway, she might as well see how Shen Chi would do...
She was quite reluctant to leave the colleagues she had worked with for a year, taking a long time to say goodbye. She’d also grown very close to the elderly men and women in the neighborhood and really hated to part with them.
Although those elders had occasionally criticized her, they were mostly kind to her and would help look after Wealth when no one was at home.
"Chaomu, where are you off to this time?" one of the elders asked.
"I’m going to C City."
"C City is great, a big city with a lot of opportunities for growth."
"Yes, that’s right," Xu Chaomu didn’t say much.
"Do you have a boyfriend yet? I won’t be able to set you up with anyone anymore, haha," the elder laughed. "I guess you’re probably tired of me."
"No, not at all," Xu Chaomu waved her hand and smiled, "Thank you for trying to set me up, maybe it was just not meant to be. I have a boyfriend now; he treats Xiaobao and me very well. I’m moving to C City to be with him."
"Then congratulations to you."
"Thank you."
After bidding farewell to everyone she knew, Xu Chaomu reluctantly left West Garden.
Locking the door, she hugged Wealth, unable to help the moisture gathering at the corners of her eyes.
She made a call to Shen Chi, her voice choked with emotion, "Shen Chi, I’ve packed everything. Suddenly, I find it hard to leave..."
Xu Chaomu sat on the staircase at the entrance of her home, reminiscing over every moment that had transpired there.
Compared to Paris, this place was filled with more tranquility and comfort; it held the simplest times of her life.
"Regret it?" Shen Chi asked softly.
"Not really... I just find it hard to leave..."
"I understand," Shen Chi gripped his phone, "If you really can’t bear to leave, I’ll have someone buy that house."
"There’s no need for that, I’m just feeling sentimental. It was just a year’s stay, and I don’t have many other emotions."
"Well, it’s okay, you’ll feel better in a few days. After all, having me by your side is better than anything else, isn’t it?" Shen Chi chuckled.
"Can’t you stop being so narcissistic?"
"Why do you have so little confidence in your husband? Come back soon, I bought you your favorite handmade yogurt, the lychee flavored one."
"Are you off work?" Xu Chaomu immediately stood up from the stairs upon hearing about food.
Wealth also wagged its tail and barked a few times.
Wealth was not pleased with Xu Chaomu’s behavior during this period. She had gone out on New Year’s Eve and didn’t return home for half a month; the dog knew she had been with her ex-husband again.
Dogs have particularly sharp ears, and Wealth became upset upon hearing Shen Chi’s voice. Xu Chaomu’s ex-husband seemed not to like it and only doted on the big dog.
What was so good about that big dog? It wasn’t cute at all and often silent.
"I’ll be off work when you get back," Shen Chi replied.
"Then you better buy more yogurt. I want you to go in person, no slacking off," Xu Chaomu teased.
"Alright, alright, I’ll go buy it myself. You hurry back too."
"Mmm, I’m heading home now."
For the first time, Xu Chaomu considered that place to be her true home.
A home is a place where there’s a loving man and an adorable baby, not just mere luxury or the size of the house. She only cared if it contained the people she cherished.
Being with the one who held her heart made anywhere feel like home.
On the other end of the phone, Shen Chi’s lips curved upward into a sweet smile as if his heart was suffused with sunlight.
Ever since Xu Chaomu agreed to be with him again, it seemed like his chest was brimming with this happiness every day. Because this happiness was so beautiful, he would never let go in this lifetime.
...
Xu Chaomu had just gotten home and settled Wealth down when Shen Chi returned.
He hadn’t worked late today and seemed to be in a really good mood, his hands laden with many bags, both big and small.
"How much yogurt did you actually buy?" Xu Chaomu asked curiously.
"There’s other stuff too, open them and see." Shen Chi dropped the shopping bags into her hands.
Like a child, Xu Chaomu was delighted to place all the shopping bags on the table and go through them one by one.
Sure enough, there were a lot of items, not just food but also flowers and a pair of beautiful red high heels.
"The shoes are so pretty, when did you learn about women’s tastes?" Xu Chaomu exclaimed as she tried on the shoes.
"I’ve always had good taste," Shen Chi said as he changed into his slippers and approached her.
"Mmm... they fit perfectly, good eye," Xu Chaomu said as she walked a few steps.
"I was worried you wouldn’t like them when I bought them."
"But we have too many shoes at home, I can’t wear them all even if I wear a different pair each day."
"No problem, then you can change them every day."
"Did you get something for Xiaobao?" Xu Chaomu asked in a hushed tone.
Shen Chi paused and then laughed, spreading his hands, "I forgot..."
"Xiaobao will be upset." Xu Chaomu spread her hands too.
"I always forget that there’s an extra person at home now. It feels like it’s just the two of us," Shen Chi said as he wrapped his arms around her from behind and nuzzled her cheek. "Thinking about it, this little guy is indeed quite the third wheel."
"The little guy holds grudges, you know," Xu Chaomu pointed out. "Be careful, or he might ignore you."
"As long as you pay attention to me, that’s all that matters." Shen Chi turned his head and gave her a kiss.
"Stop it, the maids might come in any moment, then you’ll be embarrassed," Xu Chaomu said as she brushed away the large hand on her waist.
At this moment, Wealth sauntered out from a corner, its collar bell jingling incessantly, and even wagged its tail at Shen Chi.
Well, even though it didn’t like Xu Chaomu’s ex-husband, without him, it wouldn’t have its beef-flavored dog food.
With that in mind, it seemed better to ingratiate itself with him.
"Whine, whine, whine..." Wealth rubbed against Shen Chi’s leg.
Shen Chi bent down and picked it up: "I haven’t seen this little thing in a long time."
"Do you miss it?"
"Not really, it’s so ugly."
"What do you mean? Wealth is really cute," Xu Chaomu huffed. "It’s my precious too. You’re not allowed to dislike it."
"..." Shen Chi threw Xu Chaomu a resentful glance.
