If You Could Hear My Heart
Chapter 1234: Don’t Want to Have Any More Children

Chapter 1234: Chapter 1234: Don’t Want to Have Any More Children

Shen Chi shot him a look and lifted him onto his lap. "Hungry now? You were just being stubborn with your mom."

Xiaobao fell silent, clutched Shen Chi’s clothes, and pouted.

"Alright, Daddy will take you to eat," Shen Chi said, the corner of his mouth curving.

Holding Xiaobao with one hand, he unfastened the seatbelt with the other.

But as he was unfastening the seatbelt, he inadvertently saw a strip of pills on the ground.

Shen Chi furrowed his brow, certain they weren’t his. They must have fallen out of Xu Chaomu’s pocket during their struggle. Was she sick?

With a surge of anxiety, he picked up the strip of pills.

The box was thrown away, but it still bore writing!

Shen Chi’s pupils abruptly contracted, and slowly, flames seemed to burst from his eyes, leaving a bitter taste in his heart.

The hand holding the strip of pills clenched, clenched...

Xiaobao sensed the chill emanating from Shen Chi, blinking, a bit startled.

Shen Chi pocketed the medicine in his overcoat without a word and got out of the car with a stern face.

Xu Chaomu had already walked up to the door, where she opened it and walked towards Nie Chenglang.

"Chenglang!"

"Chaomu." Nie Chenglang hadn’t left; he hadn’t expected Xu Chaomu to come back.

"Chenglang, sorry for being late, Happy New Year," Xu Chaomu said with a smile.

"Happy New Year. I came to give you a New Year’s gift and to see how you’re doing," Nie Chenglang said, handing her the paper bag he was carrying.

"Thank you, I... I didn’t prepare anything for you."

"It’s fine. You didn’t know I was coming. My visit today was a bit abrupt," Nie Chenglang apologized, "I’ve been busy lately, haven’t had a chance to check on you."

"Work is important. I’ll take care of myself. How’s work going?"

"I’m adjusting. A lot of the power isn’t in my hands yet, still with my mother," he said. "And you, how..."

He trailed off, glancing at the Shen Family villa.

"How I ended up back here, right?" Xu Chaomu gave a bitter smile, "I’ll be leaving in a few days."

"I haven’t seen Xiaobao in a long time. I miss him."

"He’s asleep. Next time, I’ll hold him for you to see," Xu Chaomu lied. She didn’t want Nie Chenglang and Shen Chi to meet.

"I really miss him."

After Nie Chenglang finished speaking, both fell silent for a while. Xu Chaomu didn’t know what to say, especially in this awkward place.

"Chaomu, it’s quite cold outside, you should go back in, don’t catch a cold," Nie Chenglang said.

Xu Chaomu looked up at him. He came all this way just to see her? She felt a twinge of guilt...

"Chenglang... if..."

"Chaomu, my stance is the same," Nie Chenglang cut her off, fearing he might not like what she was about to say, "if you give me a chance, I am willing to be Xiaobao’s father."

"Actually..." Xu Chaomu wanted to reject him. She couldn’t delay Nie Chenglang like this.

"No need to say more. Go inside. I’ll watch you go," Nie Chenglang said with a slight smile.

Xu Chaomu nodded; she knew Nie Chenglang was aware, yet he remained so persistent.

She turned and walked towards the villa.

Nie Chenglang truly watched her enter before Xu Chaomu reached the door and waved to him.

Nie Chenglang looked handsome today, just the way she remembered him.

She remembered those five years in Paris when he was always with her during New Year’s. Whatever she wanted, he would buy. When some dishes weren’t available abroad, he would cook them for her himself.

In winter, when she capriciously wanted to go skiing, he was there with her.

Xu Chaomu steeled herself, turned her head, and walked into the living room.

As soon as she entered, the servant closed the door behind her.

Nie Chenglang was still standing outside, and even though she had been inside for a long time, he hadn’t left.

The doors of the Shen family closed once more, their actions making it clear they did not welcome him.

Nie Chenglang’s hands were stuffed into his coat pockets as he gazed at the doorway, his eyes deep and solemn.

All of this was witnessed by Shen Chi.

By the time Xu Chaomu came back, Shen Chi had already removed his coat and, with his hands in his pants pockets, was silently looking out of the window.

Xu Chaomu knew that he was watching them.

Xiaobao was probably carried away by a servant; she looked around and did not see him.

She didn’t say anything, just changed into slippers and prepared to go upstairs.

"Can’t you cut off contact with him?" Shen Chi asked in a deep voice, his tone slightly low and hoarse.

"I can’t," Xu Chaomu replied indifferently.

"If you really can’t, then you have to let me know when you see him, okay?" Shen Chi stepped forward and gently touched her head.

He let out a light sigh—it was his step back and his compromise.

He was telling her that he wasn’t a wolf in sheep’s clothing; he was sincere towards her, and everything he did came from the heart, not a performance.

Xu Chaomu was slightly stunned; this didn’t resemble the Shen Chi of the past at all.

Had it been before, after her response, he would have certainly erupted in anger.

Xu Chaomu remained silent, preparing to continue upstairs.

Shen Chi grabbed her hand, not letting her move.

"I’m speaking to you seriously. I won’t stop you from interacting with him or stop your normal socializing with him, but, as your husband, I want the right to know," Shen Chi insisted, holding her hand firmly.

"What about you? What can you promise me?" Xu Chaomu countered.

"From now on, I’ll tell you about every woman I meet every day," Shen Chi said earnestly.

He was speaking to her in a negotiating tone, almost pleading.

"Give me some peace," Xu Chaomu neither agreed nor disagreed.

"Wait, you’ve been keeping this the whole time?" Shen Chi pulled out the contraceptives he had found from his pocket.

His eyes darkened in an instant, and his facial expression became especially rigid.

Xu Chaomu panicked; how had he found the medicine she bought at noon?!

"How do you have my medicine?"

"You dropped it in the car when you got out."

"We’re both adults; you should understand," Xu Chaomu said. "Moreover, I’ve always told you, I don’t want any more children."

"I’m not forcing you," Shen Chi’s voice grew lower. "I like Xiaobao a lot too. If you don’t want to have kids, then don’t, but don’t take this medicine anymore; it’s not good for your health."

"You know it’s bad for your health, so why don’t you take precautions?" Xu Chaomu questioned.

"I thought..." Shen Chi stopped speaking and let go of her hand. "Never mind, go upstairs."

He thought she was willing, considering that no matter whether Xiaobao was his biological child or not, having another child would certainly liven things up.

She always liked their daughter very much, and he did too. Having another child, for a son and daughter pair, seemed just right.

But he was wrong; she was still of the same attitude, unwilling.

"I won’t have dinner; you take good care of Xiaobao. I will take him back to Jin City tomorrow," Xu Chaomu said flatly.

After speaking, Xu Chaomu turned and went upstairs.

Shen Chi watched her retreating figure and knew she was never willing to compromise.
