Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies -
Chapter 783: Zhu Yunque
Chapter 783: Zhu Yunque
At this moment on Rockflow Island, flames soared into the sky, and heart-wrenching cries mixed with shouts of battle filled the air without end.
A group armed with guns and knives charged into the caves, ruthlessly slaughtering and looting another band of apocalypse survivors hiding there.
“Kill all the men! Make them into preserved meat when we get back! The women stay. Whoever kills the most today gets first pick!”
A short man with brown skin shouted coldly in the accent of a small Southeast Asian country.
Behind him trailed a group of disheveled refugees, each with fiery eyes, howling as they rushed forward.
Soon, blood splattered everywhere inside the cave.
A werewolf-transformed superhuman was protecting several women and a group of children, fighting while retreating deeper into the cave.
“Zong Yu, can we survive?”
Behind the werewolf, a pale and haggard woman asked in fluent Mandarin. The werewolf responded in the same language, “We will survive! You, me, and everyone else—we will all survive!”
The woman’s eyes dimmed a little. “But the food on the island is almost gone, and other groups have already started killing each other. How much longer can we hold out?”
The werewolf roared angrily and smashed the head of a pursuer with a large rock.
He gritted his sharp teeth and clenched his fist, saying, “There will be a way. There absolutely will be a way!”
In his fist was a stone that faintly glowed with a yellow light in the dark cave.
The werewolf lowered his head and looked at the stone. “Maybe this is our hope for survival!”
...
Zhang Yi had been resting at home for over two months, enjoying peaceful and quiet days that made one reluctant to leave.
Time flew by; beautiful moments always passed especially fast.
Every day they indulged in pleasure, enjoyed delicious food, and lived without a care.
But one day, this life was shattered once again.
A call from Zhu Zheng reached Zhang Yi.
Zhang Yi was not surprised when he received the call.
Zhu Zheng occasionally called to check in and, at the same time, try to win Zhang Yi over.
“Hello, Commander Zhu, how have you been lately?”
Zhang Yi asked with a smile.
“I’m the same as always. Zhang Yi, you’ve rested well these past two months! You sound full of vigor!”
Zhang Yi quickly covered his chest, frowning. “Don’t mention it. After the operation against Moon of Corrosion and helping you fend off the Reincarnation Squad, I still have hidden injuries. Sigh, I have to keep resting! Cough, cough, cough!”
Zhu Zheng raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Then I’ll send some doctors over to examine you! The medical techniques in the district are better than what your side has.”
“That’s not necessary. How could I dare take up the district’s medical resources!”
Zhang Yi chuckled.
Zhu Zheng knew Zhang Yi was being polite and didn’t press further.
He smiled, “Alright, alright. You’ve rested long enough. Even Baili Changqing and the others, I’ve already arranged for them to go on missions.”
Blizzard City did not keep idlers. If Zhang Yi had stayed in Blizzard City, he would have been busy all along.
After treatment from the medical department, Baili Changqing’s injuries had healed.
However, Zhou Ke’er had told Zhang Yi that Blizzard City’s compound medicines had significant side effects.
Baili Changqing looked recovered, but his body must have suffered hidden injuries, possibly even shortening his lifespan.
“There’s a very important mission in the district. I need you to come over. I’ll discuss it with you in person.”
Zhu Zheng’s tone became serious.
Zhang Yi frowned.
Another task?
And it was something he couldn’t discuss over the phone.
That clearly meant it wasn’t an ordinary mission; otherwise, Zhu Zheng wouldn’t send him.
After a few seconds of silence, he decided to go to Blizzard City first to see what was going on.
“Alright, I’ll head over today.”
Zhang Yi said to Zhu Zheng, then went back inside to change clothes.
No matter when, he was accustomed to wearing gear when going out—at least the tight black battle suit.
Before leaving, he just told Fatty Xu, “I’m going to Blizzard City. If anyone asks about you, just tell them.”
Hearing Zhang Yi was leaving, Fatty Xu immediately jumped up from the sofa.
“Is it more trouble we have to deal with again?”
Zhang Yi rolled his eyes. “Who knows? Let’s wait and see first.”
Fatty Xu licked his lips. “How about I come with you?”
Zhang Yi rolled his eyes again. “Go play somewhere else! I’m not on vacation.”
Fatty Xu had developed a liking for Blizzard City’s services.
After all, professional service staff provided excellent skills. The key was that he didn’t need to invest feelings, so there was no risk of being scammed.
After refusing Fatty Xu, Zhang Yi left the shelter alone and planned to head to Blizzard City.
It wasn’t his first time; he knew the route well.
Taking the express train, it only took a little over an hour to arrive, so it wasn’t troublesome.
Before long, Zhang Yi arrived at Blizzard City.
Stepping out of the train, a scene before his eyes made him slightly brighten.
In front of him was a woman, a beautiful lady with delicate makeup.
She wore a green coat with a double-breasted design; the black buttons matched the color of her long hair.
Her face was small, fair as snow and ice, and her big eyes studied Zhang Yi carefully.
Zhang Yi had seen many types of people, and from this woman, he immediately judged that her status was special.
There was a noble aura in her bones—although Zhang Yi disliked using that word to praise others, this woman indeed resembled some young ladies he had met before.
Her face carried a pride unblemished by hardships, even a kind of innocence.
Zhang Yi could guess she must have never experienced the despair and struggle of ordinary people after the apocalypse.
“Are you Zhang Yi? The captain with the codename Chaos?”
The woman looked at Zhang Yi and suddenly asked.
Zhang Yi raised an eyebrow, smiling as he nodded and answered, “I am Chaos. Who are you?”
A polite smile appeared on the woman’s face.
“I’m Zhu Yunque, an officer from the Commander’s Office. The Commander sent me to pick you up!”
She said this, elegantly extending her right hand from her pocket.
Her delicate, soft hand clearly hadn’t known hardship.
But Zhang Yi thought silently: Zhu Yunque, surname Zhu? Seems like a well-connected person!
Zhang Yi had never heard that Zhu Zheng had a daughter, only vaguely remembered Baili Changqing saying he had a sixteen-year-old son.
So this woman might be a niece from his family.
Zhang Yi didn’t think much and reached out to shake her hand.
However, Zhu Yunque frowned slightly when she saw the leather glove on Zhang Yi’s hand.
She parted her cherry lips, her tone tinged with a hint of displeasure, but her manner was elegant and polite.
“Mr. Zhang, isn’t this a bit rude of you?”
Zhang Yi looked at her, surprised. “Huh?”
She pointed at the glove on Zhang Yi’s hand. “I mean, when shaking hands with someone, you should at least take off your gloves, right? Don’t you agree?”
She asked with a smile.
Although her face was radiant with a smile, Zhang Yi’s impression of her instantly worsened.
Her manners were impeccable, her smile brilliant, and even her request seemed reasonable at first glance, making it hard to find fault.
But Zhang Yi disliked people who were nitpicky.
He always hated trouble.
