I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 98: Interrogation

Chapter 98: Interrogation

The wait lasted for quite a while. Maybe around half an hour, but it felt much longer, perhaps because Felix was constantly on high alert, focusing all of his attention on observing the street.

Well, observing perhaps wasn’t the best word - he couldn’t see the street at all, with his back plastered against the wall, and he didn’t dare peek out - what if the Beta noticed the movement from the other end of the street, and would ran off before the witch could even cast a spell? It was the Beta’s house, but that didn’t mean he would come back anytime soon, after realizing his address had been compromised. Maybe he would stay at his friend’s place, or something.

Luckily, Felix was a wolf, so he didn’t have to rely on his sight. He could sense what was going on the street with his superior sense of smell and hearing. He listened and sniffed, closing his eyes to avoid any distractions...

And there it was. The footsteps approaching. The scent of the Beta getting stronger and stronger at a fast pace. Mixed with the smell of grilled meat and beer. Seems the Beta was out for some food and drinks in town...

All the better. His guard should be lower if he was buzzed. As long as he wasn’t too drunk to talk clearly... Although the witch would probably be able to solve it as well with some spell.

Felix opened his eyes, glancing at Remi... But Remi was no longer there. The jasmine fragrance still hung in the air, but the fox was nowhere in sight. Felix thought that he would accompany him all this time, but...

Could it be that the witch couldn’t cast any spells, unless he was in his human form? Or perhaps his capabilities were limited while transformed. Maybe he needed chant the spell or something, in which case doing it as a fox would indeed be difficult, if not downright impossible... Felix had no idea how magic worked, so he didn’t know.

Regardless. While he might have been a bit disappointed that Remi wasn’t going to be by his side, he had no doubt but the fox - or it should be ’the witch’ now, rather - was still around, supporting him from the shadows. Thus, he wasn’t worried, he just waited for the appropriate moment...

The Beta reached his front door, and started fumbling with his pockets, looking for the key. Just then, the jasmine scent in the air intensified, and Felix noticed a thin wisp of purple smoke come from behind the wall, waving at him, as if to urge him to move.

And so Felix did. He took a deep breath, and then rushed out of his hiding spot, jumping onto the Beta before he could even react. The first thing he did was to clamp the man’s mouth with his hand so that he couldn’t scream, then pressed him to the wall. The witch’s spell had already taken effect, it seemed, because the Beta had no strength to resist.

"Calm down," Felix whispered through clenched teeth. "I just have some questions. Stay obedient, and I won’t cause you any harm."

Probably. That depended on the Beta’s answers. Cause if he were a threat to Felix and his pup... Then, naturally, Felix wouldn’t be able to just let him be.

The smoke moved again, this time trying to instruct Felix to go around the house. They couldn’t, or rather shouldn’t, conduct their interrogation right in front of the house, where they could be seen from the street. Thus, Felix grabbed the Beta, wrapping his arm around his torso, and with his other hand still tightly pressed against his mouth, he started dragging the man all the way around to the backyard...

And then into the woods behind. He felt a bit bad, seeing the Beta’s terrified eyes, wide and round like saucers, getting more and more desperate the deeper they got into the forest... But, in the end, he was the first to follow Felix at night. Alone. Stalking him quietly. When they didn’t even know each other! Or at least Felix had no idea who he was. So, he brought it up upon himself.

Finally, when they were far enough so that even if the Beta were to scream, no one should be able to hear it, Felix dropped him on the cold, damp moss, and exhaled deeply, stretching his back after the workout.

The purple fog still swirled around them, letting Felix know about the witch’s presence, as well as the spell remaining active. Without wasting any time, he quickly got to the point.

"So," he said, stomping his feet right next to him and leaning over the Beta, his golden eyes narrowed, and shining with a dangerous glint. Or at least that’s how he tried to look, to intimidate the Beta... But it didn’t seem to quite work, as instead of getting more scared, the Beta’s cheeks flushed.

"Ugh." Felix scrunched his face with disgust, and stepped back. Well, never mind that. The witch should have cast the spell to make the Beta talk, so there was no need to intimidate him. "What do you want from me?" he got to the point.

"I-I don’t want anything!" the Beta yelled, scurrying back. Or at least trying to, as much as his weakened state allowed him to. Which wasn’t much.

Felix’s eyes twitched. Perhaps the truth spell hasn’t kicked in yet? Either way, he continued, "What do you know about me?"

"N-nothing much! T-that you, you’re an Omega, a-and a werewolf..."

"You don’t know where I come from?"

"No!"

"What about..." Felix started, but then paused. He hadn’t talked with the witch about the possibility of a memory wipe, so he had to be careful with his questions. It would be stupid if he revealed something important while trying to interrogate his suspect.

"Were you the one who followed me a few months ago?" he tried next.

And this time, it seemed that he finally started getting somewhere, because the Beta stuttered, "Ugh, that is, yes..."

"...And why did you do that?"

"I-I can’t! I can’t tell!" the Beta shook his head frantically, his breathing getting quicker and more uneven.

Felix wouldn’t let him off, though. "What do you mean by that? Why can’t you tell?"

"I... I! I was p-paid for t-that!"
