I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 96: Truth Serum

Chapter 96: Truth Serum

Since the waning moon was only a thin crescent, almost gone from the sky, the room in the witch’s house was relatively bright. Still dimmed and foggy, lit only with candles, but at least bright enough so that Felix could clearly see the witch’s half-exposed chest, his strong shoulders and chiseled jaw.

Although whether that was a good thing, Felix wasn’t so sure. After soaking in this view, he might end up having nightmares at night... Or, well, maybe not nightmares, but rather... embarrassing dreams, he didn’t want to have.

But at least the witch seemed fine. Not as pale and uncomfortable as he looked that time when Felix visited him when half of the moon still hung in the sky.

"Welcome," the witch greeted him, his voice low, smooth, and relaxed. "Please, take a seat."

Felix sat down opposite the witch and put the baby carrier with Vivi on the chair right next to him (which wasn’t there last time), trying not to show how nervous he was. Not because of the request he was going to make, but rather because of the witch’s pecs peeking out from the low cut of his dress. The witch truly had a problem with his excessive fondness for exhibitionism!

"How can I help you today?" the witch curved his lips in a seductive smile, leaning toward Felix from across the table.

Felix averted his eyes from the witch’s chest - which was much harder with the witch’s eyes hidden under the large brim of his hat - and cleared his throat. "Ahem, well. I would like to ask for a favor... I was wondering whether it’d be possible for you to brew something like a truth serum?"

"...A truth serum?" The witch’s mouth twitches. "And what would you need that serum for, pray tell?"

Hmm? Seeing the witch grow a bit defensive all of a sudden, Felix’s brows lifted up. Was the witch... perhaps afraid it would be used against him?

Not that it wasn’t tempting, now that Felix thought about it. Except, it would be hard to make it work. Even if he fed the serum to Remi, it would be pointless when he was in his fox form. Shifters couldn’t talk when they transformed, as the animal vocal cords, as well as the shapes of their mouth and tongue, were simply not suitable for the use of human speech. Maybe Remi could have bypassed that with a spell, but that didn’t matter. Felix wouldn’t try that anyway. Learning a few of the fox’s secrets wasn’t worth ruining the relationship they currently had.

"It’s for a certain werewolf Beta that I met the other day," he explained. "He tried to follow me home in his wolf form a few months ago, and I want to find out what it was all about."

"Hmm." The witch narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Felix. "And how are you planning to use it on him? Spike his drink?"

Felix shook his head in response. "No, that would be difficult... I was thinking if it’d be possible for the potion to work through scent? Or as a spray, so that I could just spray him, taking him by surprise. Oh, and it would also be good if it could weaken him for some time, so that he wouldn’t have any strength to try to run away..."

After all, it would be hard to interrogate Beta if he were running around, or managed to escape and lock himself up somewhere. Felix might have been fast, but there was no telling which one of them was faster.

"That’s not impossible," the witch said, after giving it some thought. "However, if you want it as an incense, or sprayable potion, then I must warn you that you might also be affected."

"...What if I wear a mask?"

"It might lessen the effects, but I cannot guarantee that you would be completely safe."

That... would be problematic. Felix most certainly didn’t want to start spilling his secrets. Nor did he want to be weakened by any spell or potion. The Beta might not have shown him any hostility during their last two encounters, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t dangerous. The fact that he tried to follow Felix alone at night, quietly, from the shadows at first, was enough of a reason to proceed with maximum caution. If Felix weren’t so suspicious of him, then he wouldn’t try to use spells and potions on him to squeeze out the truth!

"...What if you were to cast a spell on me, to protect me from the potion’s effects?"

"Hmm." The witch paused for a moment, thinking. Although Felix couldn’t see his eyes, he could still feel the intense gaze tickling his skin...

"Let’s do it that way. Rather than prepare the potion, I will cast the spell on your target directly," he eventually suggested.

"Oh?" Felix perked up. "Will you accompany me, then?"

Was he finally going to spend some time with the witch in his human form outside the witch’s house?

But no. "I will... secretly," the witch responded. "You won’t be able to see me, but I will follow you when the time is right. Just remember to take your fox with you."

"My fox? What for?"

"I want to check whether you are treating him right. This is my condition."

Or rather, this is necessary so that you can ’follow’ me,’ was what Felix thought, but he didn’t say it out loud, and only nodded his head in agreement. "Alright."

"Good." The witch smiled. "Now, since it’s still rather early... Would you like to see another glimpse of the future?"

"The future, huh?" Felix eyed the crystal ball suspiciously. So far, all those ’visions’ hadn’t shown him anything useful, like for example warning him about the possibility of his pup’s premature birth. The only things that checked out were that fox onesie, and the scene of shirtless Felix cuddling his fox in bed to some degree... But both of those could be considered self-fulfilling prophecies. So, the authenticity of those ’glimpses’ was still one big question.

Still, it’s not like checking out what the witch wanted to show him would hurt... So, he nodded his head. "Yes, please."

The crystal ball glowed up again, and the images started forming within. Felix having some tea with Eden, then Vivi crawling around the house, next was Felix frying chicken and cheese pancakes...

Felix’s whole face flushed all of a sudden, as a new image emerged. It was of him, sitting in the bath... Naked, of course, although not much was visible because of all the bubbles. But that was not the point. He... was not alone. Remi was also in there, sitting between Felix’s leg, while the Omega rubbed some shampoo onto his red, furry head.

Pervert, Remi was truly a pervert! Was that what was going on through his head? That looked so intimate, completely inappropriate! It’d be one thing to bathe together like that in human form, but with Remi as a fox...

...Wait, what did he just think? It wasn’t okay, not at all, human or fox!

"I’ve seen enough!" Felix shot up from his seat abruptly, grabbed Vivi, and ran out of the room, his face burning hot.

Just what did that stupid fox want?!
