I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 40: Tell a Stranger, but Not Me?

Chapter 40: Tell a Stranger, but Not Me?

After Felix was all dined and wined (with no actual wine involved. Kade couldn’t drink, since he had to drive, and Felix also said no, for obvious reasons), they got into Kade’s black sports car, and went for a drive, just as Felix initially wanted. There, they could finally be alone...

Ugh. Felix never thought he’d ever be glad he was alone with Kade. But it wasn’t that he enjoyed it or anything, only his wolf did!

"Why are you so silent tonight?" Kade was the first to speak, as he drove down the road out of town. "You haven’t said a thing the whole evening!"

"But I did," Felix calmly refuted.

"What? When?"

"When the waiter came to take our order."

"What?" Kade gave Felix a pitiful look, and whined, "But you haven’t said anything to me!"

To which, Felix only shrugged his shoulders. "Well, I had nothing to say to you! I’ve told you that it needs to be private!"

They couldn’t exactly discuss the mermaid or werewolf secret affairs in the restaurant, where they were within earshot of other people. Well, technically they could, but it was unlikely Kade would be willing to reveal his purpose there. As much as he cursed the man in his head, calling him dumb, annoying Alpha and whatever, Felix was all too well aware that Kade was anything but dumb.

"Alright, alright," Kade sighed. "I get it, you’re shy, so you don’t feel comfortable confessing in public. We’re alone now though, so go ahead!"

Felix ignored this obvious provocation. "You came to Silverfall to look for a mermaid, right?" he asked, getting straight to the point. "Can you tell me what do you need from her?"

"...Ah?" Kade blinked, clearly surprised. He didn’t expect this question. After all, Felix knew about his search for so long, and yet he had never asked. So, why now? Did he find some clue, or... "Why do you want to know?"

"Just curious." Felix only shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t want to reveal his cards, both for his, as well as the mermaid’s sake.

Such an answer, however, was hardly satisfying for Kade. He let out a low hum, and tapped his fingers on the wheel. "What if I want to date her?"

...Of course he had to turn it into a joke.

Felix was annoyed - it was an important issue! - and so was his wolf (although for a different reason), but he maintained a calm, neutral expression, and just nodded his head. "Ah, okay. Good luck then."

They drove in silence, Kade constantly throwing side glances at Felix. Until eventually, he couldn’t take it anymore. "That’s it?" he asked.

Only for Felix to shrug it off again. "Well, what else?"

And then he waited.

Just as expected, Kade wouldn’t let him misunderstand for long. "It’s a top secret mission from the pack," he explained. "To find her. No dating involved! I can’t tell you the details, though."

Felix expected that much. And under any normal circumstances, he would leave it at that - it wouldn’t do him any good to get too involved. Still, he was kind of desperate now... So, he raised his brows, and asked, "Then if you found her, weren’t you going to tell what you need from her?"

"Well, yeah, I mean..."

"So you would tell it to a stranger, but not to me... I get how it is," Felix sighed, shaking his head. "Fine. I understand."

"Wait, that’s not-"

"Can you take me back home now? I’m tired." Felix crossed his arms, and ostentatiously turned his head away.

"Wait, I really, what I mean is... Damn it!" Losing control of himself a bit, Kade slammed his hand onto the wheel. For a few more minutes, he just drove ahead in silence, his sandalwood pheromones leaking from him a bit, as he was weighing things in his mind.

Until eventually, he gave in. "Fine. Have you ever heard of the mermaid blood?"

Felix’s whole body tensed up, but he pretended not to care. He took his sweet time ignoring Kade for a bit longer, before asking lazily, "Mermaid blood?"

"Yeah. It’s said to be a miracle medicine that can cure any ailment."

"Isn’t that just a rumor though?"

"Well, any rumor might have some truth in it, no?" Kade shrugged his shoulders. "When no known remedy works, even something so uncertain is worth a try, no?"

That made sense, so Felix just nodded his head. It was none of his concern whether it was true or not... But he had a feeling the mermaid might not be too happy with that. Would she be willing to share her blood? Especially if it was indeed the truth. It could put her in danger, as she could be hunted for her blood afterward...

"You’re not going to ask me what I need this remedy for?" Not getting any response, Kade glanced at Felix again. Couldn’t this Alpha just keep his eyes focused on the road?

"For a sick person, obviously," Felix rolled his eyes.

"Yes, but are you not curious who’s sick?"

"No, not really."

"Are you sure about it?"

"Yes, I am."

"No, I think you’re just being shy... Well, listen up then. The truth is that... Hey, what are you doing?!" Kade couldn’t help but raise his voice, as he noticed what Felix was up to. Because Felix... had already undone his seatbelt, and was about to open the door.

"I’m getting out," he said curtly.

"I’m driving!" Kade protested. "It’s dangerous!"

"So is learning sensitive information about the Bloodmoon Pack," Felix snapped back. "Do you think I would be able to remain in Silverfall after that?"

Of course, he wasn’t really planning to jump out of the car. He would probably survive it - he was a werewolf, he was tough... But it was too dangerous for his pup. His only goal was to give Kade a little scare, so the Alpha would back off.

And it worked.

"Damn," Kade swore under his nose, disappointed that his plans had been thwarted. If Felix really had learned too much... Then that would be a perfect excuse to drag the Omega back to the pack with him. And Felix would have no right to get angry at him, because he was the one who started the topic, and pressed on even when he knew it was a secret!

But, he wasn’t so crazy as to risk his little mate getting injured or worse, so he slowed down. And not long after, he dropped him off at home safely.

What other (reasonable) choice did he have?
