I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 27: Unused to Refusals

Chapter 27: Unused to Refusals

Felix took a deep breath, before raising his hand, and knocking on the door. "Hello? Is anyone there?"

He held his breath, focusing all of his attention on listening, but there was no sound coming from the inside. Only rustling of the trees behind the house, TV noise from one of the neighbors, and sounds of cars driving in the distance.

Once again, he had no luck.

A disappointed sigh escaped Felix’s mouth. He was hoping that maybe, just maybe, the witch would finally show up in front of him, since she helped him back when he was attacked by the rogue... But was it just a fluke? That the witch was just passing by, and took pity on him? Because the days passed by, and she still refused to meet Felix. Remi also remained silent and uncooperative...

Felix tried again, but it was no use. The house was deathly still and quiet, and he couldn’t sense any presence either... Except that of a certain annoyance down the street, approaching quickly in his direction.

Letting out a sigh, Felix took a step back. Just as the black sports car pulled over right by the witch house.

"Hi, fancy seeing you here!" Kade called mirthfully, lowering his front window.

As if he hadn’t purposely driven past the witch house, sensing Felix’s presence.

Not that Felix could call him out on that, since that would mean admitting to the connection they shared. So, he just held back a groan, and turned around to leave the witch’s little garden and face Kade. "Hi, what a coincidence! Are you here to look for the witch?"

"Well, that was my plan, but-"

"Then go on, don’t let me get in your way!" Felix cut in, not letting Kade finish, and gestured at the open gate.

Kade, however, showed no signs of moving, just lifted his brows. "What for? You’ve already confirmed she’s not home, haven’t you?"

"Hmm? What makes you think so?" Putting on the most innocent expression he could muster, Felix tilted his head. "I’m just leaving now, because I’ve already finished my business with her!"

"Oh, are you? And what did she say?"

"That’s none of your business!" Not wasting any more time on the annoying Alpha, Felix turned away, and started to head back home.

Only to hear the car door open and close behind his back, followed by the crunching of the snow under Kade’s shoes, as the man chased after Felix.

"How is it not my business? What if you found some clue about the mermaid?"

That was indeed the main reason why Felix was looking for the witch so urgently, but it didn’t stop him from scoffing and rolling his eyes. "And why would I bother her with that? I have my own issues to deal with! Go ask her yourself if you want to know."

"Hmm, maybe next time. I have to take my mate out for dinner now!"

"Well, good luck then." Felix’s pace instantly increased.

Not that Kade could be so easily dismissed.

"Hey, where are you going?" he called, chasing after the Omega. And, with his annoyingly long legs, catching up in just a few steps.

"Home!" Felix snapped, without so much as a glance at the Alpha. "I wouldn’t want to be three wheeling on your date!"

"But you are my date!"

"Thanks but no thanks!" Felix instantly refused...

But his steps unwillingly faltered. It was the fault of his wolf making a racket in his mind! Trying to convince Felix to give in and accept the Alpha. Of course, Felix resumed his brisk pace as soon as he managed to suppress all those unwanted feelings...

Unfortunately, his brief hesitation didn’t escape Kade’s attention, resulting in a grin to appear on the Alpha’s face. "Come on, don’t you want to have a nice, hot meal?"

"I have food at home," Felix deadpanned.

"Well, we can do that as well!"

...How many times did they have to go through it before Kade would finally give up? Did he never get bored of it, just repeating the same pointless argument day after day?

Because Felix most certainly did!

Which was why he chose to completely ignore the Alpha, and walk straight ahead in silence, pretending he couldn’t hear the whining, neither that of his wolf, or that of Kade. His place was just a few blocks away, so he wouldn’t have to endure it for long...

Except that his silence did nothing in terms of discouraging Kade. The man seemed to have every intention of having dinner with Felix, whether outside, or in his rundown house. He followed him all the way home, through the crooked gate, up the damaged porch... And as Felix tried to close the door in Kade’s face, the Alpha grabbed it, not letting go.

"Do you mind?" Felix clicked his tongue, his brows furrowed with annoyance.

"No, I don’t! I can close the door for you!" Pretending not to understand, Kade flashed his teeth in a wide grin.

So Felix tried shutting the door by force... But as they creaked ominously, he had no choice but to let go. Sure, if they broke because of Kade, then Felix could charge him for damages... But what would he do before they got repaired?! He couldn’t exactly sleep in a house with broken front door! And the hotel was not an option, since that’s where Kade was!

Seeing Felix let go, Kade immediately took this as a sign he could invite himself in. "So, what are we having for dinner?"

For a good minute or two, Felix just sized him up with his gaze. "You’re really not used to people refusing you anything, are you?" he muttered.

"Hmm? I guess I’m not... But how did you know?" Kade tilted his head, blinking with confusion, as if Felix had just uncovered some deeply concealed and always overlooked secret trait.

"...I just had a hunch. Since, despite my obvious unwillingness to have anything to do with you, you’re still insistent on bothering me at every opportunity."

Something new and unfamiliar flashed through Kade’s face, resembling... sadness? Or maybe ache? It quickly disappeared though, as the Alpha adjusted his expression. "Well, what can I do? You can’t seriously expect me to give up on my fated mate so easily? Not everyone finds their fated one, so how could I let such a chance slip by? And besides..." He paused for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he stared down at Felix.

"You say you don’t want it, but your actions suggests otherwise. Even now... You are leaning closer to me."
