I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 172: You Could Have Just Asked
Chapter 172: You Could Have Just Asked
Silence.
The whole house fell into silence, with only the wind whistling to be heard.
For a long time, Remi didn’t say anything. And when he finally opened up his mouth, all that he said was a quiet, "I don’t know. There was no mention of the cure in the story..."
But his ’I don’t know’ didn’t sound confident. Even if there wasn’t a mention of the cure in the story passed from his ancestors, with the key to the curse right in front of him, how could Remi not figure it out? He was a witch himself, he knew a few things about curses. The curse on him might have been impossible for him and his mother to solve, but there was no way he hadn’t realized anything about trying Felix’s blood.
Even his mother who had just observed everything from the side knew that much. When Felix thought about how Agnes had reassured him that she wouldn’t hurt him and she just wanted to take his blood...
She must have known. She must have known that the price to pay for breaking the curse was Felix’s life.
Which is why she had asked him about his golden-eyed relatives, to check if they could be sacrificed.
Felix’s head spun. He buried his face in his hands, and rested his elbows on the table.
"...Were you ever planning to tell me?" he finally asked, his voice weak and strained from the pain he felt in his chest. There was a gull in his throat, which almost made him choke...
Remi didn’t answer. Perhaps he didn’t know the answer himself.
And there was no point in him even trying to lie about it. It was just a few days ago that Felix had tried to ask him about his condition, and what Remi had done then? Make up some ridiculous excuses to dismiss the topic, that’s what he had done! It was clear that he had no intentions of revealing the truth to Felix, not anytime soon, and they both knew that. If it wasn’t for Agnes suddenly coming to visit when Felix was alone in the house...
"You know, you could have just asked me for my blood." In the end, Felix was the one to break the silence again. "You’re a witch, it’s not like I would have a reason to refuse. You could have offered me some potions in return, or perhaps money... You gave me potions and money anyway, so why couldn’t you have just turned it into a fair trade?"
This was what bothered him the most. Not that Remi had taken his blood... But just that he had done it secretly.
Remi scratched his cheek, averting his eyes. Not that Felix was looking at him, as the Omega still sat with his face buried in his hands, but Remi just felt too guilty to even look at him now.
"Well... My curse is kind of a big deal, you know?" he tried to explain. "It’s my biggest weakness... I can’t go revealing it to just anyone... Ah, no, well, I mean..."
Felix let out a short, mirthless chuckle. "I see."
"No, what I mean is! When we first met, I didn’t know if I could trust you, so I just stole your blood. And after that..." Remi licked his lips, shifting in his seat. "After that, the more time we spent together, it became harder and harder to tell you... I was worried that if you were to find out, then we would lose everything that we have..."
"What do we even have?" Felix laughed again, causing Remi to go silent again.
It’s not that Felix thought that there wasn’t anything between them... It’s just that everything that they had, had been built on lies.
"Does Brielle know?" he then asked.
"She knows... About my curse, at least. We had met when my father was still alive... Actually, my father had tried hunting her for her blood, to see if it would help with the curse," Remi admitted. "But it didn’t help at all..."
"Oh, but! She doesn’t know anything about your blood," Remi quickly added. He knew he had messed up, but he wasn’t shameless enough to try to drag innocent people into it to share the blame with him.
Felix nodded his head absentmindedly. Actually, he didn’t care that much whether Brielle knew or not. She was Remi’s friend before she was Felix’s, so Felix wouldn’t blame her if she had known, but chose not to tell. He was asking more just to break the uncomfortable silence...
Minutes passed by slowly. It was already late, and Felix was tired... Although he didn’t know if he would be able to sleep after that, he really wanted to just go to bed. His head was too heavy from all the information he had just learned. He let out a heavy sigh, and lifted his head...
Only to notice Remi biting his lip, sitting all tense, his eyes hazy, his face all pale and covered in droplets of cold sweat.
It didn’t seem like just a nervous reaction. More like... his curse acting up. It was the new moon, but Remi had spent most of the day in his human form, all the way into the night, only shifting for a while during his escape attempt earlier. Perhaps it was a bit too much.
"Take it if you need it," he muttered.
"Hmm?" Remi flinched, looking at Felix.
"My blood."
"Oh, no, no, I can’t, it’s alright!"
"I’m offering it now, so just take it."
"I can’t. My mother had already taken your blood earlier, that would be too much... I’m fine, really!"
Felix observed Remi for a moment. Then, his eyes widened, as he guessed something. "Could it be... that you have a stash of my blood?"
Remi flinched, averting his eyes.
So that was it. It was just a random guess on Felix’s part, but... It seemed that Remi was truly keeping a stash of Felix’s blood.
Not that it made any difference. He was stealing his blood without Felix’s knowledge anyway, so who cared if he used it right away, or saved it for later?
But if that was the case, then there truly was no need for Felix to offer his blood now.
"Leave," he just said, lifting himself up from the chair. "I want to be alone."
He still didn’t know what to do next, but no matter what, he really didn’t this blood thief of a fox to stick around him at night.
And Remi understood that much. He got up from his seat, albeit hesitantly, and walked toward the door.
"If you need me... I’ll be in my house," he just said, before disappearing into the night.
