I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 163: Studying
Chapter 163: Studying
Remi took Jared’s car, and took the Alpha out of town. Jared was still unwell, barely conscious. Because of the curse that had been placed on him, he couldn’t recover, not as long as he was in Silverfall...
And that curse would also stop him from acting against Felix and Vivi, at least for now. He wouldn’t dare to say anything about Felix’s whereabouts, since that would cause him to throw up the viscous black substance and pass out. He was a leader of the pack, after all. Not only did he have an image to uphold... But also, if the news about his condition were to spread, it might put the Moonhill Pack in a sticky situation. With the cursed leader, the other packs would lose respect for them... It would also make it easier for anyone to scheme against them. And if anyone knew that Jared had been cursed by his fated mate? Even if Felix were the one in the ’wrong’ here, that would still be too humiliating for Jared! His pride as an Alpha wouldn’t be able to take it.
Besides, what could he even do? Send more people Felix’s way? What for, so that they can end up with even worse curses? If Felix could curse Jared, then there was no saying what else he might be capable of! Of course, if Jared were desperate, he might still try something, no matter what...
But that’s why Felix had given him a way out: Wilder Embermane. Jared was allowed to inform Wilder about the situation, and ask him to come to Silverfall. As for what would happen next...
Felix didn’t know. It’s been a while since he had last seen his father, and honestly, he didn’t mind if he never saw him again. But no matter how strong and influential Wilder Embermane was, he was still just a werewolf. With Remi by his side, Felix had no reason to be afraid.
And it was best to solve the problem at its roots. If Wilder wanted Jared to mate with Felix so much... As long as Felix changed his mind somehow, be it with a rational discussion, or a curse...
Actually, now that he thought about it, Felix kind of wanted Wilder to come. It would be nice to curse that damned father of his, so that he would pay for all the suffering Felix’s mother had to experience because of him!
For now, though, Felix had other things on his mind. The incident with Jared showed him how vulnerable he truly was. Without Remi’s help, he wasn’t able to defend himself well...
So, the very next day, he was back in the witch’s workshop to brew potions and learn. If he had had more knowledge and had been well prepared, when Jared had attacked him, he could have used the potion to incapacitate him himself, without waiting for Remi to do everything for him!
He sat by the desk, furrowing his brows and scratching his neck, while reading through the recipes for various potions. For now, he tried to memorize several potions which Remi had highlighted for him, focusing on their effects, potential side-effects, usage, and antidotes...
Vivi was right next to him, in the playpen prepared by Remi, playing with sensory toys. They had been enchanted, so that they were safe to use - no matter how much she tried chewing on them, she wouldn’t be able to bite any part of them off, thus there was no risk of her choking. With her safe and busy, Felix could focus on studying, while Remi busied himself around the workshop, working on some potions...
Felix lifted his eyes, suddenly realizing something.
Remi had been at it the whole day. The whole day in his human form. He didn’t even look tired. Even now, after so many hours, he still looked energetic.
And it wasn’t even the new moon yet.
Of course, that should be a good thing, but...
Felix lowered his eyes, leaning over the old potion book to hide his expression. "By the way," he said in a casual tone, flipping the pages. "I’ve been meaning to ask you something. Do you dislike staying in your human form?"
Naturally, he knew that it had nothing to do with any ’dislike’, but if he asked openly, Remi would most definitely be on guard.
Even just this was already a lot.
Remi paused for a moment, before tilting his head with a smile. "Hmm? What do you mean?" He chose to play dumb.
"Oh, I’ve just been wondering... Whenever we’re at home, you’re in your fox form. You hardly ever stay in your human form..."
"I’m in my human form now, am I not?" Remi chuckled. It sounded natural...
But Felix knew better than to trust a fox. His fingers holding the page tightened slightly. He still maintained his calm, though, as he answered, "Yes, but that’s because you can’t possibly brew the potions in your fox form, with your fox paws. Whenever you do anything that doesn’t require human form, though, you don’t shift... You even eat your meals as a fox."
Remi went silent. Because Felix had his head lowered, he couldn’t see the fox’s expression, but he knew that he struck the right point.
No matter how one were to look at it, Remi’s behavior was odd. It was one thing back when Felix still wasn’t certain about his identity. But now that Remi had shifted in front of Felix multiple times, it made no sense for Remi to insist on staying in his fox form all the time. Like, during meals, for example - why would he choose to eat like an animal? Wouldn’t it be better to transform and sit down to eat with a knife and fork? With how Remi cared about his image, always appearing so graceful, and well put together, it just didn’t make sense. Unless they were hunting in the wild, shifters rarely ate in their animal form. Even those from the packs that prided himself close to nature and rejected most of the human civilization had better manners than that! Well, alright, maybe that was an exaggeration, but still.
"So, I’m really curious," Felix repeated, lifting his head. His lips were curved with a slight smile, but his eyes were vigilant. "Is there any reason you do that?"
