I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 143: Come With Me

Chapter 143: Come With Me

What now?

Felix shrugged his shoulders. "What can I do? It has nothing to do with me. I’m just a rogue Omega living alone in a small town."

Well, perhaps not alone, because with his pup and the witch, but that was not the point. The point was, that all things considered, he was just an outsider in all of that. There was no reason for him to get involved...

"But you’re already involved," Kade pointed out.

And Felix pressed his lips together so tightly, they had turned white.

Yes, indeed he was. Unfortunately. It was just his rotten luck...

As always, his supposedly ’lucky’ name seemed to malfunction.

"You know it as well, don’t you? Which is why you insisted that I make sure no one knows where I go. You were afraid that the Misty Claw Pack might notice something, and come to Silverfall." Once again, Kade got it right. "But it’s already too late for that, isn’t it? I’ve spent so much time here over the past... year, almost..."

"Wasn’t your mission here a secret from the start, though?" Felix snapped. That was only his guess, of course, but...

"It was," Kade confirmed with a nod. "But just because I’ve been trying to act covert, doesn’t mean that no one noticed my movements. This town might still be safe... But there’s a chance that it’s not."

"So, come with me to the Bloodmoon Pack," he added after a long pause.

However, he was immediately shot down with one firm, short, "No."

Kade’s brows wrinkled, and he leaned over the table. "Don’t be so difficult. That’s for your own safety. I’m not telling you to become my mate... I will still honor that part of our agreement, and give you the time you need before I start pursuing you again. But if you stay here... I might not be able to protect you well..."

"Would you be able to protect me if I came to the Bloodmoon Pack, though?" Felix just scoffed defiantly in response. "Even your father was cursed..."

He felt a bit bad about pointing it out and reminding Kade, but he had to argue back somehow. Well, technically he didn’t HAVE to - it’s not like Kade could just grab him and drag him to the pack with him, not when Felix had the witch on his side - but still. Talking back to Kade was pretty much a natural response for him at this point.

Thankfully, Kade didn’t seem offended or hurt by Felix’s words. He just argued back, "My father is the leader of the pack. If someone is trying to attack a pack, the leader is naturally the best target. Next, they might attack the heir, the Luna, or other influential members... Even if you were to join the pack as my mate, you would still be fairly low on the priority list. Unless it’s a personal grudge against me, no one would waste resources to place a curse on you... And besides, you have the witch on your side."

All that Kade had said was valid. However,

"That’s just a direct attack you’re talking about. But if your conflict with the Misty Claw Pack were to escalate, then the Bloodmoon Pack would be THE LEAST safe place."

"That’s only if a war broke out. It won’t happen anytime soon. And even if it were to happen today... It’s not like our main pack house would be immediately attacked. It is defended well, and we have evacuation measures in place. No matter what, I would ensure your safety," Kade insisted.

And perhaps he would. Except that...

"That’s only from the outside threats. But what about the pack’s inner conflicts?" Felix gave Kade a long look, stroking Remi’s fur for comfort. "As the heir, you must already be busy enough. Now, with this whole Misty Claw Pack issue, you’re only going to get busier. How much time and attention would you be able to spare for me?"

"You’re tall, handsome, rich, and powerful. The heir to the Bloodmoon Pack. Naturally, for many Omegas, you would be a perfect mate..."

"You think I am a perfect mate?" Kade interrupted, flashing his white teeth in a wide grin.

And causing Felix’s forehead to wrinkle in a frown. "I said ’FOR MANY OMEGAS’. I’ve never mentioned whether I’m one of them."

"Are you not, then?" Kade whined, his grin immediately turning into a pout.

Felix closed his eyes for a moment, holding back a sigh. "MOVING ON. With so many Omegas interested in you, naturally I would attract a lot of attention if you were to bring me into the pack. Unless you were to introduce me as someone else’s mate. Someone’s not too important..."

"I can’t do that," Kade shot down the idea without a second of hesitation.

"Well, then even if we kept the fact that we used to be fated mates, or that little agreement that we have, a secret, some Omegas or female Betas aiming for the position of your Luna might be displeased with my mere existence... Unless you have a habit of bringing rogue Omegas to the pack?" Felix tilted his head.

"I don’t," Kade rushed to defend himself. "The ones we already have in the pack house are troublesome enough."

The corners of Felix’s lips twitched at the remark. Seems that Kade must have suffered a lot from the Omegas’ relentless pursuits...

Hah! Serves him right! If he knows how tiring and annoying it can be, then he shouldn’t have done that to Felix!

Of course, those Omegas were most likely not his fated mates, which would change a lot in most of the werewolves’ eyes... But with his dislike for the fated bond, Felix didn’t feel that way.

Either way,

"Since that’s not a habit of yours, that would make me rather special, no? And how do you think all those... troublesome Omegas would react if you gave someone a special treatment?"

Kade went silent for a long while after that. It seemed that unlike some Alphas, he was not so dumb as to believe that the Omegas were always as sweet and innocent as they acted. In fact, they could be just as ruthless as Alphas...

"They wouldn’t dare to harm you, though," he eventually said.

"Harm me directly, perhaps not... But scheme against me, or try to frame me?" Felix let out a mirthless chuckle. "They might!"

"Even if they framed you, I would still believe you."

"So what? If you tried to defend me, it would only escalate the conflicts within the pack. Is that something you would be able to do?"

"Of course I would!" Kade refused to give up. "Besides, that’s only IF they managed to successfully frame you. My mother is still the Luna of the pack, and she would protect you. On top of that, among the young Omegas, there’s also one of my childhood friends. He’s Fen’s cousin, he’s trustworthy, and he can keep things under control. Even if I were too busy to supervise your issues personally, he would be able to help you integrate into the pack well..."

It all sounded great.

’Sounded’ was the key word. It was nice in theory, but how would it turn out in practice?

Besides, his worries regarding how his life in the Bloodmoon Pack would look like was only one of the reasons why he refused Kade.

"Thank you, I appreciate the offer, but I still want to stay in Silverfall. I quite like my life as a rogue, you see," Felix explained calmly. "And as you have said earlier... I have the witch on my side, no?" He smiled, giving Remi’s head a nice rub, and earning himself a pleased purr. "I can work here as the witch’s assistant. Vivi can grow here in a normal environment, without other pups giving her a cold shoulder or even bullying her because of what they have heard from their parents. It might not be much, but such a quiet life suits me just fine."

"But if the Misty Claw Pack comes..."

"Naturally, since I have decided to stay, I thought about some countermeasures," Felix cut him off.

"What kind of countermeasures?"

"Magical ones."

They stared at each other in silence for a long while.

Until eventually, Felix let out a heavy sigh. He was getting tired, and wanted nothing more but to get back home, wash up, and throw himself on the bed... "We should end this discussion here," he said, lifting the clingy fox in his arms, as he stood up from his seat. "I will see you off now."

Then, without looking back, he walked out of the door, and moved through the maze, following the direction Remi pointed out with his head. It was more complicated than ever... Remi must have set it that way since it was Kade coming in today, and now couldn’t rearrange it, since he was in his fox form.

It took them a good five minutes of squeezing through the narrow, low corridors filled with jasmine-scented, purple smoke - literally SQUEEZING, in Kade’s case. The corridors were so small at some points, that Kade, with his tall, muscular frame, could hardly fit in there... The fox could be really petty at times, huh? - before they finally reached the door.

"It’s best if you don’t come here anytime soon," Felix said, as he opened the door. The cold night air rushed in, giving him goosebumps all over his arms, dressed only in a thin jumper. "In case there are any spies. Besides, according to our initial agreement, we were not supposed to meet for at least a year. Now that your father’s emergency is solved, we should stick to that."

The disappointment was clearly visible on Kade’s face. Although he had obtained the potions for his father and crucial information for his pack, this visit left him feeling down...

He knew better than to push Felix too far, so he only asked, "We can stay in touch, right?"

"...Yes, that’s fine," Felix sighed.

It’s not like he had much of a choice, considering that their lives were already so intertwined...
