Chapter 133: (Un)Familiar Spellcasting

Curse? What curse?

Felix’s eyes wandered between Remi and the woman. Could it be that...

"Do you mean that werewolf Alpha?" Remi asked. Unlike Felix, he didn’t sound particularly surprised. Perhaps he had already suspected it before.

The woman turned her eyes to Felix again, as if unsure whether she could discuss the matter in his presence. Remi also hesitated for a moment...

In the end, though, he said, "He’s my assistant. He already knows about it, so you can speak freely."

...To be honest, Felix wasn’t so sure whether it was truly a good idea! Knowing too much could be dangerous. He couldn’t say that he wasn’t curious... Still...

Before he could make up his mind and excuse himself, though, the woman had already accepted Remi’s assurance, and admitted, "Yes, Einar Blackstone from the Bloodmoon Pack."

All the blood drained from Felix’s face, and he suddenly felt lightheaded, as if he were about to faint.

So they came face to face with the witch who had been able to place a curse on Kade’s father, bringing him to the brink of death! A curse that took Remi the whole day and night to remove, and which caused Einar Blackstone severe side effects that required complex potions from Remi to deal with.

...Perhaps Felix shouldn’t have gotten involved with the witch after all? Yes, Remi had helped him a lot, and his life would have been more difficult without this fox of a witch by his side, but now he started having second thoughts... It wasn’t rational, of course, it was just his self-preservation instinct kicking in. The woman in front of him was dangerous, no matter how gentle the expression she wore on her face was!

"So it was you," Remi said. He also seemed tense, although not necessarily afraid.

The woman lifted her brows in response. "Didn’t you already know it?"

"I wasn’t sure."

"Didn’t you recognize my spell casting?"

"It’s been a few years, your style has changed."

"Has it?" the woman tilted her head, a bit surprise. "I didn’t even realize. I guess it makes sense, considering the research I did abroad..." She paused, her lips curving in a smile. "Speaking of changes... Between the two of us, aren’t you the one who has improved more? You were even able to undo that curse. As expected of my son!"

Wait... Her SON?

Felix blinked, staring at the woman, dumbfounded. He was betting on an older sister or a cousin, at most a young aunt... But Remi’s mother? She didn’t look anywhere old enough to have a grown-up son!

"You’re... his mother?" he couldn’t help but ask.

Well, he didn’t actually intend to say it out loud. It just slipped out of his mouth on its own before he could bite his tongue.

And the woman’s green eyes immediately turned to him. "Why, yes," she smiled. "And you must be his partner?"

Felix gulped loudly. Her smile was bright and cheerful, but he still couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Not by anything she did, but just because of who she was, because of the power she had within her.

"I’m... his roommate?" he answered, not wanting to be rude and ignore the question.

"Roommate." Remi’s mother quirked her brow. "Is that what you kids are calling it these days?"

...Why did no one believe him whenever Felix gave them this answer? But it was indeed just that! Although they... had their moment when Felix had been in heat, technically speaking, they weren’t partners or anything. They had never discussed it, Remi had never said anything, so at least in Felix’s book, they were just roommates, and the witch and his assistant.

But Remi’s mother was already firm in her assumption. There was no way her son would let just anyone into his workshop, after all! Not to mention the pup in Felix’s arms, whom Remi had claimed as his.

So, with that as proof of their relationship, she had already accepted the Omega as her son-in-law.

"Let me take a look at you," she said, approaching Felix with a smile. She reached her hand to remove his hat...

Before she could do anything, though, Remi blocked her way.

"Leave him be. He’s very shy."

"There’s no need for that. We’re family now!" the woman laughed, trying to push Remi’s arm away, but the man didn’t budge.

"Don’t make him uncomfortable."

"Why are you being so defensive?" the woman asked, confused, but she still took a step back. "I just wanted to see my son-in-law!"

...What son-in-law? Felix furrowed his brows. First, he was named as Remi’s partner, and now he was suddenly married? How come he couldn’t recall his engagement or the wedding ceremony at all?

But he didn’t say anything, he just stood behind Remi in silence. He had no idea whether he should remove the hat or not... On one hand, he wasn’t sure if he wanted the witch who had cursed Einar Blackstone to know his face, even if she didn’t appear hostile toward him, while on the other, he was afraid that ignoring her request might come off as rude and offend her...

Then again, it’s not like he could actually remove the hat even if he wanted to, as the last time he had checked, it was still glued to his head. All he could do was to leave the decision-making to Remi.

And Remi seemed adamant to keep Felix’s face hidden.

Remi’s mother stared at his son for a long while, before letting out a sigh. "Alright, alright. I understand it might be too sudden," she said, her voice heavy with disappointment. "Can I at least know his name?"

"Lex," Remi answered for Felix, using the name he had been introducing himself with in Silverfall.

"Lex," the woman repeated. "Just Lex?"

"Just Lex."

"Hmm."

"Anyway, moving on," Remi ended the conversation, shifting the topic back to the main issue. "What are you going to do now? Regarding that werewolf Alpha’s curse."

"Hmm." The woman paused, pondering over it for a moment. "Initially, I was planning to find out who broke the curse, and then recast it again... However, since you are now involved, I would like to hear your side of the story first. What’s your connection to the Bloodmoon Pack?"
