I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 127: A Good Thing

Chapter 127: A Good Thing

As Felix was busying around, weighing the ingredients, noting down the amounts, and confirming everything with the list, Kade’s eyes didn’t leave him even for a second. He was sipping on his tea, while watching the Omega’s every move so intensely, as if he wanted to burn the image onto his brain.

Naturally, Felix wasn’t unaware of the Alpha’s eyes on him. How could he, when the gaze could almost burn his skin? But he attempted to ignore it, focusing his attention on his task. He had so many jars to go through, he didn’t have time to entertain Kade!

But Kade apparently thought otherwise.

"So, you have truly become the witch’s assistant, haven’t you?" he asked, leaning over the table and resting his chin on his hand.

Felix didn’t lift his eyes from the scale, only muttering as he noted down the weight, "As you can see."

"Hmm. Does he treat you well?" Kade didn’t give up on his attempts to start the conversation.

All he received in response, though, was a short, "Yes."

"Do you like the job?" he tried again.

"...Yes," Felix nodded his head. Truth be told, he didn’t know yet. It was only his first day, after all, and his first task was... dull and monotonous. Nowhere as exciting as his ’witch’s assistant’ job title might have suggested. But the perks were great, and the money was most likely going to be good as well, so he didn’t complain.

But Kade sensed the hint of certainty (caused but nothing but the lack of experience, but he didn’t know that) in Felix’s voice, and his eyes narrowed. "You don’t sound too sure about your answer."

Felix remained silent for a while, before shrugging his shoulders. "Well, it’s a job. No matter how good it is, there are bound to be things I’m not as fond of."

"...Such as your employer?" Kade suggested with a smirk, earning himself a glare from the fox.

However, Felix soon shot him down, "Such as dealing with annoying clients."

Kade didn’t ask to specify, as he knew all too well what would be Felix’s answer. Instead, he nodded his head as if he could understand the Omega’s issues, and said, "Yes, there must be some that are difficult to deal with. You’re lucky that I’m the one you get to meet today!"

Felix didn’t react to that. He just opened another jar, scrunching his nose as the intense putrid scent of some rare plant escaped its glassy confinements, filling the whole room in the instant. Holding his breath as much as possible, he transferred it to the bowl, weighed, quickly put it back, screwing the lid tightly on, and rushed to open the window. All the windows. The air outside was cold, but it was better than fermenting in this unbearable scent!

The unexpected good thing that came out of it was that at least Kade went quiet for a while, as he was busy pinching his nose!

His silence wouldn’t last forever, though. As soon as the scent dissipated (which was most likely thanks to Remi, as it happened surprisingly fast, and the stench was replaced by the relaxing jasmine fragrance), he opened his mouth again.

"I suppose it’s a good thing," he mused. "You working for the witch."

With this, he finally managed to win himself a surprised glance from Felix. The Omega blinked, staring at him, a bit confused... He had expected Kade would be against it, considering his past complaints directed at Remi’s clinginess.

Seeing Felix’s blank expression, Kade smiled at him. "Well, I can’t exactly say that I’m happy about how close the two of you are... But it would be good for you to have the witch on your side, especially now that you asked me to take the guards away," he explained. "The witch should be able to protect you in need, or help you with his potions if you get sick... Or once your heat returns, he can brew you potions to lessen the symptoms."

Felix almost choked at the last sentence.

Right. His heat.

He wondered how Kade would react if he knew that Felix’s heat cycle had already returned, and how the witch had helped him to get through it...

Actually, on the second thought, he didn’t really want to know. Perhaps they would have to discuss it sometime in the future, while the break they had agreed on came to an end... But that was still far ahead, there was no need to worry about it so far in advance. There was still a chance that Kade might change his mind about pursuing Felix before then, in which case it would be unnecessary to talk about it. Besides, there was nothing between him and Kade now, so Felix had no obligation to tell him what was going on in his private life! And it wasn’t as if he and the witch were dating either!

Yet, although technically he hadn’t done anything wrong, he couldn’t help but feel guilty about it. He lowered his head, avoiding Kade’s eyes, and moved on the the ingredients. There was still a long way to go, he was barely halfway through...

With his head down, he didn’t see that Kade’s purplish black eyes narrowed, focusing on him, as if trying to see him through. Naturally, the Alpha didn’t fail to notice Felix’s weird reaction...

Before he could ask anything, trying to poke around with his questions to figure out what was going on, Felix suddenly spoke again.

"Huh?" he tilted his head, staring at the numbers on the paper, then back at the scale, and on the paper again. "It’s double the amount?"

"Ah, yes. I brought a bit more, just in case," Kade explained. "There should be double amount of all the ingredients."

Of all the ingredients? No wonder there were so many large boxes filled to the brim! Now that Felix looked at all the numbers he had written next to the ingredients, they added up to more than required... He hadn’t noticed it at first, since he was going to sum it all up after finishing all the weighing, and only double-check if there were any discrepancies between his results and the requirements... But what was he supposed to do in this case?

Just accept?

The fox looked rather pleased, so it seemed that the answer was ’yes’?
