I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 125: Trial Shift

Chapter 125: Trial Shift

Against his wish to stay away from the witch (at least in his human form) for a while, so that he could sort out all his feelings and emotions, Felix was pretty much forced to confront that foxy man only a few days later.

Reason? Kade Blackstone!

Well, naturally, pushing Felix into a meeting with a witch wasn’t the Alpha’s intention. It was just that he called Felix one morning, announcing that he had all the ingredients the witch had asked for...

"...Already?" Felix asked, unable to hide his surprise.

"Hahah, who do you think I am?" Kade laughed on the other end of the line. "I’m the heir to the Bloodmoon Pack, getting a few rare ingredients is nothing difficult for me!"

"Says someone who couldn’t get the mermaid blood for months," Felix muttered, more to himself rather than to Kade, but Kade still picked up on that.

"You can’t compare the mermaid blood to some herbs," Kade defended himself. "Mermaids rarely come out on land!"

That was true. Felix didn’t know much about mermaids - no one really did - but what he did know was that they spent most of their lives in the deep sea, rarely even visiting the shallows (at least according to the common knowledge. It was possible they did, only in places removed from civilization). Thus, the only way to meet them was to visit their natural habitat...

Except that then you wouldn’t live to tell the tale. No one who had embarked on such a journey had ever returned, not even in unconfirmed tales. So, to be able to obtain mermaid blood... was nearly impossible. Now that Felix had thought about it, it was unbelievable that he had a vial of such a rare ingredient hidden underneath the floorboards in his house.

"Anyway," Kade continued, getting back to the main topic. "I’m around three hours away from Silverfall now. Would it be alright if I came to drop it all, so that the witch can start working on the potions?"

"You mean, like, right now?"

"In three hours, yeah."

Felix glanced at the fox, who was lying on the couch, curled up and pretending to sleep, even though he was clearly listening to the conversation. The moon was already past the first quarter, so it was not the most optimal time for the witch, according to Felix’s understanding of his condition... But it was just dropping the ingredients, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem. It wouldn’t take long, and there was no need to make Kade drive back and forth, when he was already so close now. Not to mention, the sooner the witch received the ingredients, the sooner he could start brewing the potions, and Kade’s father needed them...

Since Remi didn’t give him any sign as to whether it was okay or not, Felix made the decision on his own, "Fine. I’ll let the witch know you’re coming."

"...The witch?"

"Who else?" Felix lifted his brows.

Which led to Kade whining on the other end, "I thought I could just drop it at your place..."

But Felix was unwavering. "I’m busy. You’re here just to deliver the ingredients, no?" he said, and then disconnected without waiting for Kade’s answer.

Then, he approached Remi. "You’ve heard everything, right? You have a guest in three hours, you should go and prepare."

However, Remi still pretended to sleep. He got up for lunch an hour later, and then went back to laze around, this time on the mat, next to Vivi, who was playing with sensory toys. Even as time went by, and there was only around half an hour until Kade’s arrival, he was still lounging around the house.

"Remi!" Felix called out, exasperated. "Do your job first! You can rest all you want later."

The fox only tilted his head in response. ’I’m just a little fox, I understand nothing!’

Felix couldn’t help but sigh, rubbing his forehead. Remi had already transformed right in front of him before, confirming that he and the witch were the same person. Just because Felix had been in heat back then, that didn’t mean he didn’t remember! So what was he still pretending to be just a fox for?

"Let the witch know he is going to have a visitor," he said helplessly.

Remi stayed in his spot for a moment longer, just blinking as he stared at Felix, but eventually, he got up and left, albeit unwillingly.

Only to return with a message,

[My cute little assistant, please receive the ingredients in my place, and deliver them to me in the evening. Personally.]

Felix stared blankly at the ornamental handwriting on the aged paper, before turning back to the fox. "I haven’t accepted the job yet."

Sure, he was going to... But technically, he wasn’t the witch’s assistant yet! So, wasn’t that fox of the witch getting a bit ahead of himself, already commanding him around?

[I have seen in a vision in the crystal ball that you were going to become my assistant in the near future.] next message read.

"...I thought the future wasn’t set in stone?"

[I have a feeling this time, it will remain unchanged. You should use today as an opportunity. Give the job a try! Naturally, you will be fully compensated.]

Another long sigh escaped Felix’s lungs. He didn’t mind so much being the one to pick up the herbs from Kade... His heat was already gone, the house ventilated, so the air was no longer filled with his aroused pheromones, so there shouldn’t be any issues with briefly meeting the Alpha again.

There was just one problem.

"I don’t know anything about the herbs, or other potion ingredients," he pointed out. "I won’t be able to tell whether the herbs he brings are correct, and of good enough quality."

Of course, even if they weren’t, he could always just inform Kade later, once the witch took a look at them... But it just wouldn’t be right, to accept the ingredients, only to later tell him, ’Actually, that won’t work. Search again!’ Sure, it wouldn’t make that much of a difference, since the Alpha would still have to go back and forth... It would just seem unprofessional. Felix didn’t want to start his job as the witch’s assistant with such a blunder, even if the witch didn’t care.

The witch, however, had a solution to this as well.

[Trust your fox’s nose! He should be able to determine whether the ingredients are correct.]

"...Sigh."

With this, Felix had no more arguments left. He had no idea what Remi was thinking...

But fine, he’d meet with Kade if the witch wanted him to!
