I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 120: Just Milk Him!

Chapter 120: Just Milk Him!

The witch’s offer was tempting. Very much so.

An easy job that allowed him to support himself and his daughter (the fox didn’t count, since he would then be his employer), while staying by Vivi’s side at all times, taking care of her? That was all that he needed and more!

If that could even be called a job, that is. Yes, the witch had described what Felix’s duties would be, but... That didn’t sound like a lot of work, honestly. And did the witch even need an assistant? Probably not, considering how much time he had to laze around in Felix’s house in his fox form! He was hardly busy himself... Yes, he disappeared for a few hours every now and then, possibly to brew some potions or cast some spells. And he did have customers - Eden and Brielle regularly used his services, and there were probably many more supernatural beings, as well as humans, who did... But he had been able to easily handle it all on his own.

So was that job offer anything more than a way for the witch to justify supporting Felix financially?

Well, there wasn’t anything particularly wrong with it, all things considered. The fox lived at Felix’s place, where Felix did all the chores, from cooking to cleaning. Thus, if he supported him financially in return, then that wouldn’t be much different from the lifestyle Felix knew from the pack - in the pack, not everyone earned money. Especially Omegas such as Felix - if he had stayed in the Moonhill Pack, then his duties would mainly consist of various chores, and helping raise the pups. He would have additional duties if he became Luna, but many lower-ranking Omegas and female Betas lived that way, taking care of the domestic stuff, without having to worry about food, clothes, or a place to sleep, as it was all provided by the pack.

Except that Felix wasn’t living in a pack. And although he had grown attached to Remi, it didn’t change the fact that they hadn’t even known each other for a year now. And Felix still didn’t know why the fox started clinging to him in the first place. So, it was hard for Felix to accept that they were family now...

And he also felt a bit awkward regarding his job at Crossroads. The boss there had been so accommodating, allowing Felix to take a long unpaid leave even though he didn’t have to... Taking that into consideration, wouldn’t it be wrong of Felix to now suddenly say, ’Actually, I no longer want the job, thanks’?

With all that in mind, it was hard for Felix to make up his mind. So, he thought it might be easier if he got someone else’s opinion... Eden wouldn’t do, since he was wary of the witch, not to mention worked at Crossroads, and with his long tongue, there was no saying he wouldn’t let anything slip, which would be awkward in case Felix returned there...

So, Felix went to visit Brielle. Brielle was the witch’s friend, so perhaps she wasn’t fully objective, but she also had no trouble sharing embarrassing facts about the witch with Felix, so perhaps she wasn’t THAT biased.

They sat down in her living room, which didn’t bring the ocean into mind at all - perhaps aside from its bluish color palette, but it wasn’t an obvious inspiration - and drinking a perfectly normal herbal tea (if you ignore the fact that Brielle scooped two spoonfuls of salt into hers), while Felix shared his concerns with her.

"Well," Brielle said, once he finished. "All those worries aside, what is it that you want to do?"

"I... don’t know," Felix muttered.

"Really?" Brielle lifted her brows, taking a sip of the tea. "Because the way you were telling all this, it sounded as if you already made up your mind, but are just hesitant to make the next step, so you want someone to reassure you that your decision is right."

Felix went silent, staring at the cup in his hands, the amber liquid rippling lightly with his every move. Brielle was not exactly wrong, but...

"I’m just afraid what happens if the witch later gets bored with me or we get into an argument or something... Wouldn’t I be out of job, then?" he finally said.

"I don’t think that’s going to happen. Trust me, I’ve known him for years."

"But WHAT IF?"

"Then you will look for a new job," Brielle shrugged her shoulders with a sigh. "What’s the problem?"

"Well..." Felix rubbed the side of his cup. "The thing is... I don’t have any form or ID, or anything. The boss at Crossroads was willing to employ me despite it, but there aren’t many such job opportunities around, are there?"

"...Right." Brielle paused, realizing the problem. But then, she asked, "How long have you been living in Silverfall again?"

"Since last December, why?"

"So less than a year... Do you have any proof of your residence? Testimonies of a few people would do. Your landlord, neighbors, your boss at work, any friends, the witch... You need five testimonies, if I remember correctly. I could also give you one, but we would have to come up with a story regarding our first meeting."

"Thanks. I think I would be able to get it..."

Although Felix wasn’t quite sure about his landlord, since he didn’t seem the most reliable - honestly, Felix wouldn’t be surprised if the man didn’t even remember when Felix had started renting the house - the neighbors might remember him moving in, even though he had been very low-key. Then there was Eden and the people at work... Getting five testimonies seemed doable.

"Well, then you just need to last one more year," Brielle smiled. "There’s a woman in town who creates fake IDs for supernatural beings. The conditions are that you’d have to be a resident in town for at least two years without causing any trouble. You can even completely fake his identity. For example, I am registered with her as a half-sparrow shifter... But you would need the witch’s help for that, otherwise, she might figure out you’re a wolf by scent."

Fake IDs? That was the first time Felix was hearing about it... But if he could get one, then it would most certainly be helpful for him in the future. There was just one problem...

"What if I had gotten in trouble before?"

Brielle paused, her eyes narrowing slightly. "What sort of trouble?"

"Well... There was one time I was chased by a rogue Alpha... We got into a fight, he chased me across the town, until eventually the witch stopped him with a spell..." Felix explained.

"Hmm..." Brielle furrowed her brows, thinking for a moment. "Was the police involved?"

"No..." Felix shook his head.

"Did any humans get hurt?"

"No, no one else got involved or anything," Felix said, shaking his head once again.

"Then there should be no problem," Brielle concluded. "You were the one being attacked, so as long as it didn’t escalate into anything bigger, it shouldn’t affect your application. And if there’s any issue, you can always ask the witch to testify in your defense!"

"So, don’t worry about it too much, and just do whatever you want. If the witch offers you a job, then I would say take it, and milk him as much as you can! He charges all of us a lot for his spells and potions, and he doesn’t even need all of that money, living at your place and all!" she added.
