I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 104: Don’t You Think It’s Weird?
Chapter 104: Don’t You Think It’s Weird?
Felix furrowed his brows. Yes, he also thought it was a bit odd, running into the Beta twice in the town square (although the second one was after a few days of stakeout, so it wasn’t exactly a coincidence, just dumb behavior on the rogue’s part), but he didn’t mention that detail to Kade. And running into each other once, after a few months, when they both lived in a small town like Silverfall, wasn’t so unbelievable. Was that Kade’s way to divert his attention?
Still, he asked, "What’s so weird about that?"
"Well, I just find it odd. Why now? It’s been what, half a year already? And you’ve never caught a sight of him, have you? So, how did you suddenly bump into him?"
Felix shrugged his shoulders. "I still fail to see your point. I don’t spend much time out in town, aside from going shopping and to the park, and we don’t live near each other. That day, I suddenly decided to have some ice cream while I was out for a walk, and that’s how we ran into each other. It was a pure coincidence, nothing suspicious about that."
"I don’t know..." Kade was still unconvinced. "If he indeed made such a deal with Lucas, then shouldn’t he stay low-key? One of the conditions should have been that he wouldn’t get found out."
"...Is that you admitting your guilt?"
"No, that’s just how those things are always done."
Well, that was true. Kade figuring that out didn’t prove anything.
However.
"It’s been so long, and I’ve never seen him in his human form. He probably assumed that I wouldn’t be able to recognize him, and it was safe to lower his guard now," Felix argued. And if that’s what the Beta had thought, then he wouldn’t be entirely wrong - Felix wouldn’t have recognized him, if it wasn’t for his ragged ear. "And besides, you and your guards have been gone from the town for a while now, so he must have felt safe."
"Yes! Exactly!" Kade exclaimed. As if Felix had just said something to support his point rather than disprove it.
"What?"
"I’m no longer in Silverfall!"
"Yes?"
"So I wouldn’t be able to come defend myself!"
"..." For a moment, Felix just stood in place, speechless. Then, he dropped on the couch with a heavy sigh. This conversation was taking much longer than it was supposed to...
"I wouldn’t be able to defend myself," Kade continued, clinging to this idea or whatever he came up with, "so some people might have used it as an opportunity to slander me..."
"Young Master Kade," Felix interrupted, rubbing his furrowed brows. "What are you doing now if not defending yourself?"
"Well, yes, but I can’t directly confront the suspect."
’Yeah, right, because that would surely go well,’ Felix couldn’t help but roll his eyes. If Kade were to confront the Beta... He would most likely beat him within an inch of his life, until Brian sang a completely different story, the one that was to Kade’s liking, under a spell or not.
How could that possibly be a reliable way of proving his innocence?
He didn’t point that out, though, asking instead, "And what do you mean people trying to slander you? What, that Beta? What could he possibly accomplish from that, aside from an express trip to the afterlife?"
"You said that rogue confessed everything under the witch’s spell, didn’t you?"
Felix’s whole body tensed up, his grip on the phone tightening. "Yes, and?"
"Are you certain that the spell he was under was one that forced him to reveal the truth?"
Kade’s voice was serious, yet calm. Although low, velvety, and pleasant to the ear, it hit Felix right in the chest like a sharp spike, piercing through and paralyzing him, and causing him to stop breathing for a moment. All the blood drained from the Omega’s face, leaving his face ghastly.
"What are you trying to imply?" he muttered, once he was finally able to squeeze some words out of his mouth.
"Maybe the witch has something to do with it."
He said it. He really said it. Of course, Felix had already known what he meant before, but for Kade to actually openly throw such an accusation...
"And why would he do it?" he muttered through gritted teeth. "He has no motive."
"He?" Kade picked up. But, the gender of the witch wasn’t all that important now, so he didn’t dwell any deeper into it, and instead stated his reasoning, "Maybe he has improper intentions toward you."
"..."
Well... He probably did. Considering how clingy Remi was in his fox form, those visions in the crystal ball, and finally that brief kiss in the forest... It all indicated that the fox might be more than just Felix’s ’pet’ or roommate.
Still.
"Even if, so what?"
"What?" Kade paused, taken aback by Felix’s nonchalant response. He quickly recovered, though, and said, "So he wants me out of the picture."
"You’re already out of the picture," Felix snapped back.
"Temporarily."
Felix took a deep breath, and then heaved a long, heavy sigh, leaning back on the couch and closing his eyes.
Yes, temporarily. In theory. According to their agreement, for at least two years. But that was still far away. There was no telling if Kade would still even be interested in trying again then...
As for the witch, he was still around. Climbing into Felix’s bed every night. Even if he considered Kade a threat and wanted to compete with him, there was no need for him to pull such schemes. Felix already trusted him more, relied on him more, and overall, allowed him much closer than Kade... So it seemed pointless for the witch to plan something like that. What could he benefit from it?
But then, Kade pushed forward the same reason that Felix had earlier suspected from him, "Perhaps he wanted to show you just how dependable he is."
Felix had tensed up once again. Still, he snapped back, "Either way, you’re still more suspicious!"
