I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 100: Suspicions
Chapter 100: Suspicions
The soft moss muted Felix’s footsteps, as he walked through the dark, misty forest. Aside from the distant sounds of wildlife, and occasional cracking of the branches under his trainers as he misstepped - he wasn’t really paying attention to where he was placing his feet, his mind too absorbed in what he had just learned - the forest seemed to be shrouded in silence. There was only Felix, alone with his thoughts.
The chilly night air cooled his skin, but it did nothing to quench the anger burning deep within. So it was Kade, all Kade! He was the one who had ordered the unknown Beta to follow him at night.
Was he also the one behind the first attack?
...No, that seemed unlikely. In Brian’s case, the Beta only followed him, without causing him any physical harm, and Kade then showed up, playing the hero who saved Felix from danger. But with that rogue Alpha, it was the witch who had saved him. Otherwise, Felix would have ended raped, and probably dead...
Not that he could completely rule out this possibility. Perhaps it was just a plan gone wrong. A miscalculation on Kade’s part. Maybe the Alpha was meant to only give Felix a scare, so that he would later allow Kade to give him a temporary mark, but then the rogue went out of control. Felix had hit him, so he abandoned the task he had been paid for (supposedly. It was only a suspicion on Felix’s part, at least for now, as he had no evidence for that), and decided to attack the Omega instead...
And yes, Kade’s reaction during the second run-in seemed genuine. But who’s to say it wasn’t just an act? He could have just been faking surprise. Or maybe he was angry that the Alpha had acted out of line. But then the reaction of the guard who had been supposed to be on shift at that time...
Well, alright, maybe assuming that Kade had anything to do with that first incident was a bit too much of a stretch. All the circumstances behind the rogue Alpha’s attack, and Brian following him, were completely different. Perhaps that rogue Alpha had just acted on his own...
But with what he had just discovered, Felix honestly no longer had any idea what to believe in. And to think that he had unwillingly started warming up to Kade... And his heart had even skipped a beat because of him several times...
He stopped in his steps, and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath to try to calm down. The question was, what should he do from now on?
...Honestly, he didn’t want to have anything to do with Kade right now. Yes, no actual harm had happened to him, but that incident still gave him a scare. To think that it was all planned by his so-called fated mate... Well, former fated mate now, but that was not the point. As expected, fated mates couldn’t be relied upon!
As he stood alone in the middle of the forest, breathing slowly as he tried to untangle all of his turbulent thoughts, he hadn’t even realized when the mist around him turned into purple fog, swirling around him in circles. Only when the jasmine scent drifted to his nose, did he finally realize that something around him had changed.
Was Remi back? Felix opened his eyes...
But what he saw in front of him wasn’t the fox, but the witch. Standing just a few inches away from him, with the brim of his spiky hat falling low and covering his eyes, as always. But the rest of his attire was different than usual - not a dress, but rather a pair of black pants, and a black, flowy shirt, left untied so that his chest was exposed.
"Why so agitated?" he whispered, lifting his hand, his long fingers caressing Felix’s chin.
Felix couldn’t help but stir. Just a second ago, his mind was all filled with thoughts of Kade - not positive thoughts, but still - and yet, now they all seemed to have vanished, leaving hardly any trace. Was that perhaps some sort of spell, by any chance?
He bit on his lip, trying to maintain a clear head, and asked, "Where’s my fox?"
"Why?" the witch smiled. "Do you miss him?"
Felix almost nodded his head in response, but managed to stop himself just in time. "I just want to go back home now," he said, trying to maintain his cool.
To which the witch only leaned closer. "Don’t you want to see me?"
"T-this..." Felix took a step back, trying to put some distance between them, but his back hit a tree.
...How come there was a tree right behind him? There shouldn’t have been one. He didn’t have time to think too deeply about it, because the witch closed the distance again.
"Don’t worry, your fox will return soon. However..." he paused, leaning forward, his fingers lifting Felix’s chin. "It has caught my attention that you’re not treating him as well as you should."
"...What do you mean by that?"
"Well, to begin with, it seems you have tried feeding him black liquorice?"
"That was only two times!" Felix rushed to defend himself. "And that was... Well, what’s wrong with that? It’s only liquorice, it’s not harmful to his health, not in such a small amount, at least!"
"Hmm. Still, black liquorice is a no-no," the witch smiled, shaking his head.
It was all too teach Remi a lesson, and Felix wouldn’t have done that if the fox hadn’t misbehaved first! He wanted to explain himself, but with the witch so close to him, the only thing he managed to mutter was, "O-okay..."
Well, there was no point arguing with the witch anyway, since the witch was Remi himself! Of course he would always say that the use of black liquorice punishment had been unwarranted.
"Is there... Is there anything else?" Felix then asked, pressing his back to the tree so tightly, as if he wanted to blend into it.
"Hmm," the witch hummed lightly. He had more to say... But in the end, he only brushed Felix’s lips with his fingers. "No, you’re doing pretty well..." He leaned forward, and...
