Chapter 683: Chapter 683: Paper Ball (1)_1
"Are you on a long trip? Mrs. Han, did you go on vacation? Where did you go? Abroad?"
The woman was trying to make conversation with Han Jingnian. Ignored by him, she relentlessly kept asking questions.
If it were the old Han Jingnian, he would have driven the woman away impatiently. But Han Jingnian now, seemed as if he hadn’t heard the woman at all. He was staring blankly at a glass on the table, lost in his own world with no reaction.
"Mr. Han, why didn’t you accompany Mrs. Han on the trip?"
As the woman’s words fell, Zhang Te noticeably caught a slight tremble in Han Jingnian’s fingertips.
If he could accompany his wife, he though, Mr. Han would have left already, wouldn’t he?
Zhang Te unconsciously took a step forward, "Miss, excuse me, could you please step back a bit? Thank you."
"Mr. Han..." Perhaps because Han Jingnian had responded to her a word or two, the woman was not convinced by Zhang Te’s dismissal. Faking a soft voice, she started cooing at Han Jingnian.
Zhang Te didn’t waste words with her. He simply gestured to the security guards in the distance, and quickly two of them came over.
"Mr. Han..." The woman called out to Han Jingnian again. When she saw that he completely ignored her with no reaction, she glanced at the approaching security guards, gave Zhang Te a furious look and then rose to leave.
After the woman left, Zhang Te didn’t dare to say anything rashly. He carefully observed the changes in Han Jingnian’s expression.
Although words were indeed feeble in the face of great sorrow, Zhang Te couldn’t help but want to comfort Han Jingnian. Just as he was about to speak, Han Jingnian suddenly withdrew his gaze from the glass. He asked in a faint tone, "What time is it?"
Zhang Te swallowed down the words he was about to say, glanced at his wristwatch, "It’s nine fifty-seven."
"Nine fifty-seven..." Han Jingnian softly repeated the time. After a while, he moved his lips again, "Let’s go, I have to be home before eleven."
Before eleven... she said I must be home by then.
Zhang Te nearly choked upon hearing this and his eyes welled up with tears. He swallowed hard and managed to steady his emotions, "Yes, Mr. Han, I’ll notify everyone now."
Han Jingnian fell silent again.
Zhang Te mingled in the crowd, shaking hands and talking for a while before returning to Han Jingnian’s side, "Mr. Han, we’re all set."
Han Jingnian got up, straightening his cuff links and crumpled clothes, and headed toward the exit.
On the ride home, Han Jingnian leant against the back of the seat, not uttering a word.
When they arrived at his residence, Zhang Te had to call his name twice before Han Jingnian came back to attention. He then nodded vaguely, bent down to step out of the car, and went into the elevator.
Only after the elevator door closed did Zhang Te step on the gas again. He happened to look in the rear-view mirror and spotted a mobile phone on the back seat.
It was Han Jingnian’s phone...
Zhang Te switched off the ignition, took the phone, got out of the car and went up the building.
When he reached the twenty-seventh floor and rang the doorbell, the door was opened after about half a minute. Han Jingnian, drenched all over, holding a drenched cat, came into Zhang Te’s view.
"Mr. Han, you left your phone in the car."
Han Jingnian slightly lifted his head as an acknowledgment. He motioned for Zhang Te to just leave the phone somewhere and then took the kitten back to the bathroom.
