I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal
Chapter 78: Revenge (2)

Chapter 78: Revenge (2)

"We were successful sir!" Joseph mumbled on the floor, his voice quivering with dread. He was trying to placate the terrible man. "We got him to the station! We did as you asked! But something had happened to him! He just attacked us and went away."

JokerX’s ears perked up with those words. He strode up to Joseph and crouched down. He grasped the front of Joseph’s shirt, his knuckles pushing into his collarbone. He drew him close, their faces mere inches apart.

"What did you say?" JokerX snarled in a low, menacing whisper. "Saman Station?"

Joseph nodded furiously, his eyes wide with horror. "Yes, Sir! We are not sure what happened to him! He just attacked us and fled away before we could react!"

JokerX let him go, dropping him back to the floor. He rose up and paced back and forth, his thoughts racing. This new piece of information altered everything.

So he knew that we were coming for him. JokerX thought. How? How could he’ve known?

This was not a straightforward assassination anymore. It was not an easy target. The boy was more than what his exterior portrayal indicated. JokerX started connecting the dots. All previous attempts on Adam’s life, official and unofficial, had failed. The cops are corrupt. Street thugs. The assassins are at his residence. Every attempt had failed.

JokerX sat back down on the sofa, a profound dread settling in his stomach. A caution bell rang in his mind, a screaming alarm that shouted something was wrong.

"He is not as simple as he appears," JokerX said to himself, his voice barely audible. "Is it a coincidence that he always escapes? His buddies claimed he attacked them the moment he got at the station. And after leaving the station, The Byrd is unable to track his exact whereabouts. "All of these things are connected."

He was still deep in contemplation, attempting to piece together the riddle, when the main gate burst open. The same gate that Eric and Joseph had just used.

A crowd of men came into the room. They were his lookouts, the men stationed outside. They were not walking. They were running. Their expressions were one of sheer dread.

"Hurry! Let us go! "Let us go!" One of them yelled as he fled.

JokerX Eric Joseph and the other mercenaries in the room glanced at the gate. They watched as the men ran into the room one by one.

But suddenly they started falling.

The first man who screamed suddenly leaned forward. He landed on the floor with a resounding thump. A huge red stain started to grow across the back of his shirt. Then the man behind him collapsed. And the one after that. They collapsed one by one to the floor, their bodies jerking briefly before remaining motionless. Blood pooled on the beautiful carpeting.

In a matter of seconds, all of the men who had run in from the outside were killed. The hefty main gate swung shut on its own, closing with a gentle click. It plunged the room into a tight, spooky silence, interrupted only by the whimpers of Eric and Joseph.

Everyone froze in shock. They stared at the mound of dead bodies at the barred gate, unable to comprehend what had just occurred.

JokerX was the first to come to his senses. His assassin instincts seized over. He sprang to his feet, wearing a nasty mask.

"Get your weapons!" he yelled to his soldiers. "Now!"

He did not wait for them. He dashed for the DJ counter, where he had stowed his submachine pistol during the last loop. He vaulted over it, grabbing the weapon’s cold steel.

The other mercenaries, urged on by his command, scrambled for their weapons. They were caught off guard, but their training kicked in. They raised their rifles and handguns, all barrels pointing at the main gate. They advanced slowly and cautiously, keeping their formation close.

"Be careful," JokerX said from behind the counter, his voice low and steady. "An attack can come at any moment from that gate."

He did not grasp what was going on. He was not sure who was attacking him. This hideout was kept hidden. Very few people in the underground were aware of its existence. Who may have discovered him here? Who has the ability to kill his troops so effortlessly and silently? The questions were burning in his mind, but he had no answers. He knew only one thing. They were trapped. And the hunter stood outside the door.

JokerX’s mind raced as he attempted to discover an explanation for the attack. His gaze focused on Eric and Joseph. They were huddled together in a corner, terrified. They shed tears.

They were totally out of their depth. They believed it was just a club. A place where people gambled and engaged in other illegal but relatively harmless activities.

They never expected there would be killing and death. They knew they were bringing Adam here to pay a debt. They had assumed JokerX only wanted to recover money Adam allegedly owed him.

They had no notion they were entering a slaughterhouse. They were just two greedy, dumb kids who had made a huge mistake.

But JokerX did not notice two terrified minors. He foresaw a future treason. He spotted a Trojan Horse. His paranoia was heightened by the abrupt attack, which concentrated on the sole variable he could not control.

"Take them," he shouted, pointing to Eric and Joseph. "It must have been them, They are the ones that launched the attack here."
