Chapter 662: Unworthy person gets authority/power

Lin Yun left with a sense of pride after uttering those words, not wanting to see what kind of expression Lin Qi had. Anyway, she just considered Lin Qi a mere buffoon who wasn’t even on her level, so what use were they?

That’s enough for now, no one could possibly be her rival; she was the leader of the pack in this dance audition. Her primary goal was to make Shen Dong regret the way he treated her, and that alone was sufficient. She didn’t care about the rest, unaware that a change of fate was about to confront her.

Lin Qi descended the stage quite upset. Despite her diligent practice, why couldn’t she stand in the center spot? Being relegated to the corners, even a slightly off-center position would have been acceptable, but standing there, what did it amount to?

Was her dancing really that poor? Feeling dejected, she thought her promise had fallen through; she couldn’t attain first place and prove herself to Shen Dong, thus embarrassing him. But if not this time, she would keep striving, just like the relentless weeds that grow back after each cutting.

As Lin Qi was silently cheering herself up, she felt a surge of greater determination—as if the challenge was just a test and many more opportunities were to come. In a few months, she could have transformed. Right now, she indeed wasn’t too familiar with some moves, but who could guarantee she wouldn’t succeed in the future?

After psyching herself up, Lin Qi was certain she could do it, but decided to send a message to Shen Dong first to let him know about the situation. She wasn’t asking for his help to adjust the data, just wanted him to know that her loss wasn’t due to a lack of effort on her part, but rather an inevitable outcome despite it.

Before she could send the message, she was approached by a manager, apparently Mr. Lin. He seemed anxious about something, but she stood there calmly.

Mr. Lin spoke warmly upon arrival, "Miss Lin, I’m sorry for the mix-up earlier when I swapped your position with Lin Yun’s. Could you stand in the center for the next round? I sincerely apologize; it was my mistake. I didn’t realize your dancing abilities were quite capable—I misunderstood."

Mr. Lin’s sincere demeanor was overheard by Lin Yun, who was standing nearby. To her, it sounded unbelievable. How could Lin Qi’s dancing be better than hers? Perhaps Mr. Lin had also taken a bribe? Lin Yun was irate.

Was Lin Qi trying to steal her spot? Could Mr. Shen have arranged this? "I don’t need such arrangements. I intend to rely on my own efforts. Thank you for the offer," Lin Qi spoke, implying she didn’t need outside help to achieve that position. Lin Yun scornfully laughed upon hearing this, as if it was the funniest joke in the world.

Ignoring whether her position was being usurped, Lin Yun sarcastically said, "You really think your own efforts are enough? Absolutely amusing. I bet it was Shen Dong who got Mr. Lin to change your position. I’m increasingly puzzled by Mr. Shen—why support someone like you when he has someone as capable as me? Is it because you’re more fun? Ha, the two of you do seem quite a match. I’ve heard Mr. Shen has a girlfriend; surely you wouldn’t shamelessly become the other woman?"

After Lin Yun finished, she looked very contemptuous, as if Lin Qi was trash. Lin Qi’s face flushed with anger, but she couldn’t deny the truth in the words; she had indeed developed feelings for Shen Do, who was already in a relationship. Heartbroken, she couldn’t show any of it, refusing to let Lin Yun’s tactics succeed.

Mr. Lin, who overheard everything, was internally shocked by the profound story and wondered if he’d be silenced for uncovering it, feeling a twinge of fear.

Meanwhile, Lin Yun was not going to let it go. She had already paid a considerable amount and would not be pushed aside. Her talent was genuine, bought with a bit of money, but what was wrong with that?

Wanting to perform well and earn more was no crime. Unwilling to settle, she confronted Mr. Lin directly:

"In what way am I inferior to her? With eyes to see, anyone could tell I dance better. I am really unsatisfied with your decision. If you continue to be this unfair, I might just report your behavior."

Perhaps she was too naive to speak out at that moment; it would have been better to discuss it calmly later on. In her current emotional state, her words were inevitably harsh.

Mr. Lin was no longer accommodating and, had it not been for this woman, his misconduct wouldn’t have been exposed, possibly risking his job. Why should he indulge her any further? His expression soured as he retorted more harshly.

"Don’t act so high and mighty here. You procured that center position with money, and even sabotaged her to the corner. I’ve not even confronted you for this deed, so spare me the talk of fairness. From the moment you sought me out, it was you who epitomized unfairness.

Rather than obsessing over others, you’d do better to improve yourself. Without the center stage, your lackluster performance won’t earn applause or investment, nor will it fool any wealthy scions. You might as well look to your own conduct, as I didn’t expect such a pathetic display from you, even with the best resources at the heart of the stage."
