Chapter 661: Bad news for you
The next day...
"Thank you for coming." Wolf walked beside Heaven as he was already on the way to board the private plane. He slowly halted and faced her, smiling. "I thought you wouldn’t come, considering everything I said a few days ago."
"No," she replied as she faced him squarely, unbothered by the strong wind blowing at them from the plane. "Thank you for calling me. I was afraid you’d just leave and never show your face again."
"Do you really think I’d do that?"
"No, but I’m afraid you’d hide after sending your minions to ruin my life. It’ll be hard to track you down."
A loud laughter escaped his mouth, nodding in satisfaction. "Well, I did a lot of thinking after we parted ways."
"Do you believe me now, Wolf?"
"I can’t confidently say I do," he answered in all honesty. "I’d be doomed if I simply believe a person’s words without enough data."
"Make sense." She nodded in understanding. "Why did you call for me, then?"
"Because I want to see you before I leave." Softness appeared in his eyes as he smiled subtly. "I don’t completely believe your claims, but it’ll be nice if it’s true. After all, the last time I saw her was... she’s already in her casket."
Her smile faded a bit. "I didn’t know you came. My last memory of you is that time you’re crying like a baby in your office."
"Now, don’t be like that. I wasn’t crying like a baby —" Wolf abruptly halted as Heaven suddenly leaped to him, embracing him tightly. His eyes slowly dilated as his body froze on the spot.
"I missed you too, Wolf, and I’m sorry that you got a selfish leader like me." Heaven squeezed him mildly as her face softened, resting her chin on his shoulder. "Back then, I did what I think is right. And I’m sorry that I don’t regret it even now. I would still make the same decision if I was able to return."
Wolf pressed his lips into a thin line as bitterness flickered his eyes. He slowly planted his hand on her back, patting it mildly.
"I know you would," he breathed out, and Heaven slowly took a step back to face him. "That’s what and who you are, after all."
"I’m sorry... for not being sorry for it." She pressed her lips into a thin line, offering him a short smile.
"Haha. You’re really ridiculous. That isn’t comforting." He laughed as he shook his head. "Anyway, it’s true I want to see you before I leave for unknown reasons. Well, I guess I know the reason now."
His smile stretched as that simple hug somehow felt familiar, making the thick layer of ice covering his heart melt. "There’s also another reason, though."
"Hmm?" Her brows rose as his soft expression turned a little hard. "What is it?"
"I assume you want to go head to head with Dragon? And thus, you want the Reapers back?" he confirmed, and she nodded. "Bad news. Five years is a long break."
"I know that." She nodded, accepting that even a week of no activity in the underground could cost a lot of things. People’s reputations were not that stable in the underground because of the violent environment. For instance, one could be so powerful, only to die the next day. So, after five years of no activity, she already accepted a lot of things changed in power.
"The Central Intelligence barely has any data about Dragon. He’s an elusive man, which makes him even more dangerous," Wolf continued solemnly. "He isn’t as easy as you think."
"I never said it was easy."
"That’s not what I’m saying." Wolf pressed his lips into a thin line and sighed. "What I’m saying is, when you died, Dragon recruited some of the Reapers. He’s following your footsteps."
"What?"
"I still don’t understand why they accepted his offer, but from what I know, they were all working for him," he clarified, stressing each word for her to understand the gravity of this information. "There’s only a few who refused to join him, and then, the people who weren’t even given the offer like me and everyone who is already in your life."
"Hah..." Heaven let out a short and airy laugh. "Why am I surprised? Of course, he’ll find a way to get them. After all, he always wants everything that I have."
"That is why I’m concerned when you said you want the Reapers back." Wolf sighed for the umpteenth time. "It’s safe to assume there are no Reapers anymore — or rather, if there were, the number is small."
Worry flickered across his eyes, a little sorry for breaking this news to her. However, he couldn’t just sit still and watch her hope for something that would only disappoint her. Moreover, the fact that she was Hera would surely put her and her family in danger.
"It’s okay." After a moment, Heaven smiled and set her attention back to him. "Don’t worry. If my people switched sides, then I understand. After all, I did my best for everyone to live a peaceful life after my death. It’s not my fault if they wanted to stick around the underground instead of taking advantage of the other option I’ve given them."
"What are you planning now?"
"I have thought of a few things." Her smile stretched. "I’m just glad that my team didn’t switch sides. It’ll be more troublesome if Bear or Tiger becomes my enemy."
"You know they wouldn’t do that to you."
"That’s why I am still grateful." Heaven reached for his hand and squeezed it. "I trained my men, and it’s annoying to hear that another person is taking advantage of the skills I taught them. But that’s life. I am Hera Cruel. I didn’t reach the height I had reached in the past just because I inherited it. I can start from scratch and still reach the heights I achieved — perhaps even higher."
"That’s the spirit." Wolf chuckled as he guided her hand to his lips. "Then, I’m at your service, Boss."
He kissed her ring and then looked up at her. "I’ll keep in touch. Tell me if there’s something I can do."
"For sure." She nodded. "Take care, Wolf."
"Yes, I will. You too."
With that being said, the two of them parted with Heaven standing at a safe distance while Wolf took the stairs to the airplane. Her lips were curled up, eyes on Wolf’s back. When Wolf got in, she arched a brow as she finally got the time to take notice of the pair of eyes that had been observing her from the beginning until now.
Tiger.
