I Refused To Be Reincarnated
Chapter 565: A Heartfelt Connection

Chapter 565: A Heartfelt Connection

Feeling his comforting breath caress her ear, Misha exhaled a few times. The anger swirling in her eyes and her elongating teeth receded before she nodded at him.

Seeing her calm down, Adam removed his hand from her mouth and kissed her forehead affectionately.

"Thank you for your care, big sis. It means a lot, and I’ll always have your back."

His chest warmed as he saw her face burning with embarrassment.

The ladies watching covered their eyes, letting the scene filter through their fingers as their hearts melted, while the boys whistled respectfully at his bold public display of affection.

However, elder Xu Fei watched them with nothing but bewilderment. His lips twitched, and his pupils trembled as he observed his hand.

"My strike had the strength of a middle-stage golden core cultivator. But they didn’t move an inch?"

He clenched and unclenched his fist, then made his Qi swirl around it. Nothing seemed wrong...

A deep furrow creased his brows as he scrutinised the two kids, his eyes sparkling the color of the wind. But what he felt through his Qi only deepened his confusion.

"They’re not even in the Qi gathering realm, so how?" He bit his lips, the question haunting his thoughts before his eyes widened in shock. "Is it possible?! No! It has to be this. It’s the only explanation!"

His voice thundered as he pointed a trembling finger at Adam and Misha.

"You have star-grade special physiques!" He shook his head. "No. It’s moon-grade ones!" He held his breath, understanding how big of a favor Yun did to Shen Wu. "Ahh! You should have called me to become their master, Yun!"

Every disciple gawked at Adam and Misha, whispering about how incredible a special physique was, not to mention one of this rank.

Meanwhile, Adam rolled his eyes.

’What moon grade? Even the sun grade is far below the body I spent fifteen years to forge.’

He smirked and shook his head. A cultivator would never understand how intricate it was, not without knowing how to wield mana.

His smile broadened as he thought about mana, and adrenaline surged through his veins. He had to head back to lift the seal without delay. Yet, his eyes narrowed on Xu Fei’s bewildered finger. The mission came first.

He nodded at the aged man, a fake smile that didn’t reach his eyes creeping over his face.

"As expected from Elder Fei’s keen eyes. You pierced our secret so fast. But with its knowledge comes the recognition of our strength." He outstretched his palm and clenched his fist. "So, are you going to give us the mission?"

A tense face-off ensued as excitement bubbled in the disciples’ veins. Would one of them make elder Xu Fei, renowned for his irritability, recognise his wrongs in public?

The question burned their lips while Xu Fei gritted his teeth at their foolish expectations.

Although his reputation was important, it didn’t matter here. He shook his head and clenched his fists. That Baldur was too cunning and too versatile for him to send anything but a team of nascent soul experts—the weakest among the core disciples.

Without wasting a second to ponder, he roared.

"No! Knowing about your special physiques gives me even more reasons not to send you to your death. Focus on cultivation and listen to Shen Wu. He’ll provide you with the resources you need."

To his surprise, Adam shrugged and turned. He took a random one-star mission from the nearby board and placed it on the counter.

"I’ll take this one, then. Or will you deny us the opportunity to earn sect points altogether?"

Xu Fei took a second to read the mission—one about killing a pack of wolves threatening farmers a few kilometres south—nodded and stamped it with his seal.

Then, he leapt over the counter, knelt before them, and grabbed their shoulders, his eyes plunging in theirs.

"I know you both want to prove yourselves, but it’s too early. You’ll be strong enough to take on kill missions without fear in a year or two with your potential. Until then, I must protect you."

"And I know you’re doing your job, Elder Xu. We won’t bother you any longer and will take our leave with the mission now." Adam clasped his hands in a cultivator’s salute and took the grinning Misha by the hand as he stepped out. "See you next time, elder."

With a last wave of his hand, he left under the respectful gaze of the disciples, his mind already focusing on Baldur’s threat.

Once outside, they walked towards Shen Wu’s house before Misha slapped the back of his head and chuckled.

"I know what you’re thinking, dummy. But we won’t get the reward without the paper."

Meanwhile, he shrugged.

"We’ll get another kind of reward, so it doesn’t matter." He sized her up and grinned. "Didn’t you want to become a mage, too? We have a perfect bastard with mana circuits creating chaos outside."

However, Misha’s nose scrunched in disgust as she shook her head.

"I did in the past, but it feels so wrong to eat humans now... I don’t want to be a cannibal, Adam." The valley’s guardians’ teachings echoed in her mind, making her shudder. "No, no, no. Let’s forget about it."

He cradled her against his chest, inhaling the natural scent of her hair. "You’ll need mana if we want to infiltrate the mage order in the west." His hand firmed on her shoulder, a steely glint flashing in his eyes. "I know you don’t want to, but trust me, it’s the last time I ever mention something like that."

Misha’s lips twisted, and her eyes slipped aside. Voice barely a whisper, she answered.

"You know you’re the only person I trust." She turned and jumped, crossing her legs around his waist and hugging him. "I’ll do it, Adam."

He trembled before letting go of his apprehensions and enjoying the hug. Then, he ignored the other disciples’ raised brows and whispers as he carried her like that under the setting sun.
