I Refused To Be Reincarnated
Chapter 557: The Mission Hall

Chapter 557: The Mission Hall

As he observed the cocky disciples, Shen Wu pointed at the mission hall, disciplinary bureau, and the treasury he managed. He also explained that the first was the most important building for the disciples and took them inside.

Unlike the registration building, disciples flooded the place. Their voices echoed their excitement as they discussed the missions plastered on the different boards and how their seniors cleared the harder ones.

Some of them wore the same robes as him, while others had ones made of rougher materials. He also noticed the absence of the golden embroidered dragons on theirs.

Without minding the teenagers’ respectful bows as he passed them, Shen went to the counter and addressed his fellow elder.

"Morning, Xu Fei. I brought my two new proteges, so could you please explain the hall’s workings to them?"

Xu Fei, a wrinkled, aged man looking as old as Yun, nodded.

Adam felt his grey eyes linger on him and Misha before a bright smile split his lips.

"Yun always calls you first when good seedlings enrol, you lucky brat."

Shen leaned on the counter and chuckled.

"He just owes me a big one. But if everything goes well, I’ll consider it settled even if I still suffer from time to time." He shook his head to change the subject. "Anyway, let me introduce them to you. The boy is Lin Adam, and this is his sister, Lina Misha. They have odd names for cultivators, but their recommendation clears any suspicions we might have."

An icy shiver ran down Adam’s spine as he noticed Xu Fei’s expression harden and his eyes narrow into dangerous slits.

"Humph. These damn mages and their absurd ideas." He leaned over the counter to gaze at the kids in the eyes. "Your parents didn’t choose the best names for you. But remember, kill any mage you see on sight. Even better, kill anyone with names similar to yours. You’ll render the realm a great service."

Lips quivering, Adam bowed to hide his facial expression while Misha chuckled behind him.

"We’ll keep your words close to our hearts, elder Xu Fei."

Despite his agreement, his heart throbbed as he felt they were wronging him.

’I like my name too much to change it. Yet, it became a curse in this realm.’

Upon seeing the kids listen to him, Xu Fei retrieved a mission pamphlet and placed it on the counter with a chuckle.

"Let me explain how this place works before Shen Wu scolds me for wasting too much of his time." He pointed at the painting depicted in the first half. "Since we’re already talking about mages, here is a prime example of what those unruly bastards do in our realm."

Tip-toeing to see the paper, Adam noticed a man holding a dark mana scythe dripping blood. At his feet, corpses, their faces withered and distorted by fear, littered the ground.

Meanwhile, Xu Fei continued.

"This insidious dog’s name is Baldur. He’s a descendant of an order called the Dark Warlocks. Through his scythe, he absorbs his victims’ life force and the faint trace of mana they carry..." He scratched his head. "I’ll let Shen Wu have the great displeasure of explaining what mana is to you later."

Adam rolled his eyes. ’I’ve been using mana for twenty-two years. Trust me, you have nothing to teach me about it.’ Yet seriousness crept onto his features as he scrutinised the man. ’Instead, his spell intrigues me. How does he absorb life force? Does it mean he can strengthen his body through massacres?’

Questions flooded his mind as he pondered this realm’s mages. They seemed much stronger than the ones from the magic world, and it could only mean one thing: their paths were complete.

’Without the magus destroying them, it sounds plausible.’

Still, he clicked his tongue at the hateful method and the sacrifice of innocents for the sake of power.

’No wonder they’re hated everywhere.’

As he pondered, Xu Fei continued his explanation.

"There is a short description of the mission beneath the picture. This one is a kill order, so there is nothing much to explain." He pointed at a few numbers. "Here is the reward. Since it’s a high-ranking mission, you can get a thousand sect points by completing it."

Misha tilted her head to the side and pressed her cheek with a finger.

"Sect points? Why not money?"

Shen Wu crossed his arms over his chest and answered this time.

"Money is worthless here. Instead, you collect sect points in your jade tokens and use them to trade for pills, ingredients, or to pay for your rent." He patted their heads gently. "That’s why we visited this building first. You’ll gather enough capital to begin your cultivation journeys without trouble by completing simple missions like collecting medicinal herbs. Of course, I’ll lend you a hand in the week month, but I don’t want you to depend on me. So, work hard to buy what you want."

Even if he had promised to offer them resources as their mentor, a cultivator’s journey was long and arduous. Therefore, they had to learn how to care for themselves.

A confident smirk split Adam’s face as his mind raced towards alchemy and enchantment.

"Are pills and weapons expensive?"

"Hahaha!"

Xu Fei chuckled heartily at the excellent question and walked to the window.

"Look there. That’s our alchemy union. They have branches everywhere and deliver ranks recognised in the entire realm." He shook his head, contrasting with Adam’s eager expression. "I wouldn’t recommend you to learn it before your second or third year here. These jobs are literal time and point black holes."

Sensing the discussion taking an unpleasant turn, Shen Wu’s voice hardened. He turned to the door and took swift steps to halt it before they began talking about weapon refinement.

"Thank you for your information, elder Xu Fei. I still have to show them their habitations and explain a few things. So we’ll take our leave for now."

On their side, Adam and Misha scratched their heads, then shrugged.

With a short word of thanks to the aged elder, they followed behind Shen.

Yet, they smirked at each other, the same thought flashing in their eyes.

’We’ll become rich in the blink of an eye if we gather materials.’
