I Refused To Be Reincarnated
Chapter 555: The Registration Process

Chapter 555: The Registration Process

With a bright flash of light, he appeared in the center of a paved area after stepping on the teleportation formation.

He scanned the surroundings, eager to discover more about the cultivators’ culture. After all, the valley’s guardians forbade him from learning anything about cultivation in the past seven years. Besides the Qingming sutras he had translated for Julius, everything they did was a mystery that made his heart beat faster.

Of course, he could have cheated, but why would he? Not only did he take pride in his renowned honesty, but he would have ruined the thrill of immersing himself in the sect to learn. Anyway, they had taught him how to craft using life force, which was more than enough for him to progress on his own.

He grinned at the thought. ’It reminds me of Durgrim’s soul orb. I kept it for a year before using it in the academy of enchantment.’ He sighed. ’Ah, sweet memories. I hope that eye in the sky devoured that pretentious Moira, thought.’

Dismissing his thoughts by rolling his shoulders and cracking his neck, he focused on the veil of life force above.

From this close, a shudder of excitement jolted his limbs as he felt the boundless energy it contained. More than containing it, he could feel there was something more to it.

After a few seconds of pondering, he inhaled a Qi-filled breeze that came to ruffle his hair.

"That’s why they gather to cultivate. The air here is much more charged in Qi than in the outside world."

Simultaneously, Misha emerged from the teleportation formation and jumped on his back.

She raised her fist and moved her legs mischievously.

"The world of cultivation is waiting. Let’s go!"

Meanwhile, he secured her legs on his sides and smirked at her.

"Ay, my lady. Where do you want me to transport you today?"

She pointed her finger at the grand building facing them.

"The guard told us to register there before anything. The outer elder will explain the rest to us."

He nodded, already moving to the place.

"We can’t let the elder wait, then. I’m curious to see if their arrangement resembles the magic academies."

After a short walk, they pushed the building’s golden-coated doors open.

The first thing that struck him was the fruity scent permeating the place. Then, the smoke swirling above the burning incense sticks placed on a clean wooden counter.

Behind it, an aged man raised his head to gaze at them after feeling the rush of cold air. He caressed his flowing white beard as his hazel eyes seized them from head to toe. His voice resounded next, calm and filled with the wisdom accumulated after years of experience.

"Close the doors and come here, kids." He offered them a gentle smile and patted the counter.

Excitement flushing her face red, Misha slammed the door shut and lept from Adam’s back before anyone could react.

With the grace of lynx, she landed by the counter and placed her palms on it.

"I’m Misha! Please register us quickly, sir. We want to start learning!"

The man’s eyes enlarged as the hand caressing his beard moved faster. His smile broadened next as he pushed himself off his wooden chair.

"An interesting recruit." He nodded. "You can call me Old Yun. I’m the outer elder in charge of registering and guiding talented youths like you."

Then, he turned towards the approaching Adam.

"You look promising as well, especially with your blue hair." His eyes sparkled. "Let me guess. You have a high affinity for the water element, correct?"

Adam shook his head, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he readied himself to do what he hated most: to attract attention and reveal his secrets.

"You’re one-fifth correct, elder Yun." He rolled his eyes and raised his palms to the sky. "My mom told me I have affinities for the five elements."

Yun’s fingers twitched around his beard as his eyes widened in shock.

Though some had rare affinities for space, time, or shadows, they usually had one or two affinities. But the seven-year-old boy standing before him claimed to have five?

Did his mother prank him?

The thought crossed his mind for a second as he took a deep breath to remain composed.

Then, he narrowed his eyes, his hand moving to his belt to retrieve two stones.

"Testing your affinities is a part of the registration process. You must have at least a middle-grade affinity for one of the five common elements or a rare one to proceed to the next step."

He placed the stones on the counter and gestured for them to take them.

"They’ll reflect your affinities and cultivation level after you hold them for half a minute."

Before his words could linger, the wind whistled as they snatched the stones with inhuman speed.

Yet, no excitement fueled the movement since they both knew about the result already. After all, it would be weird for Misha, the embodiment of natural creation, to have anything but a rare natural affinity.

And after a dull thirty seconds, they placed the stones back on the counter.

"Impossible!"

His voice cracked in disbelief as fiery red, deep azure, flowing grey, solid brown, and sharp silver danced in the stones.

Even if he saw it with his own two eyes, his fingers still trembled as he brought them closer to him. Yet, no doubt was permitted. The two kids had high affinities for the five fundamental elements!

His old heart raced against his chest at the revelation as his hand immediately gripped a jade talisman from his belt.

"Wait for a second. I’ll contact an inner elder to continue the registration procedure." His smile broadened to reach his eyes. "You’re both too talented to start as outer disciples, so I’ll help you skip this step."

Adam shrugged when he heard the emphasis put on the word ’help’.

’Alright, old fox. We both know that you’re just following the sect’s instructions. Anyway, what’s so great about inner disciples? Aside from better accommodation and a few more cultivation resources I don’t need, I don’t really care what kind of disciple I am.’ Yet, his eyes sparkled as he continued on his line of thought. ’I’ll still rank first and beat the core disciples to get that sun-grade cultivation technique.’

As he pondered, the noise of something sharp splitting the wind sliced through his concentration. And a moment later, a tall man opened the door.
