Chapter 590: The 586th Chapter Shocks Taotie with High-tech
"Rest assured, Princess Your Highness, the mission will be completed!"
Having been appointed by Fang Xiaocao, Tom was ecstatic.
He pulled out a palm-sized device from his pocket and leaped into the corridor.
Fang Xiaocao shook her head helplessly. "Unhappy, go with Tom."
Considering Tom’s lack of close combat ability, Fang Xiaocao decided to have Unhappy accompany him.
Unhappy excelled at close combat, ranking among the top in his tier.
As long as they didn’t encounter a second Meng Po, there shouldn’t be any issue.
Unhappy obediently nodded, leaping into the corridor with a fluid motion.
He crawled behind Tom in a stealthy manner, always ready to scare the unsuspecting Tom if he turned around.
Taotie was the third to jump into the corridor.
But he didn’t rush to catch up to Tom’s pace.
He wanted Tom to scout for any potential dangers.
Especially those high-tech, or even black-tech traps—those modern mechanism systems that Taotie had no handle on. While he had the skills, he didn’t know how to deal with them. If it were ancient mechanism traps, Taotie wouldn’t need Tom to pave the way.
He could handle them single-handedly.
Fang Xiaocao and Mantis brought up the rear.
Once the three men resolved everything, the two of them could cross safely.
Tom, thrilled at having a chance to show his skills, grasped the device in his hand and forged ahead swiftly.
He moved so quickly it seemed more like a power-walking contest than carefully scanning for traps.
Beep beep beep—
Suddenly, the device in Tom’s hand alerted him.
Tom froze, immediately retracting his extended foot, fixing himself in place.
He glanced at the device in his hand.
Turning half a circle to the left, then half a circle to the right.
Finally, he aimed the device back to the left.
"It’s here."
Tom muttered.
He cautiously approached the left side of the corridor.
Reaching out, he touched a smooth, spotless section of the wall.
With just these simple actions, Tom identified the mechanism embedded in the wall.
It was a heat-sensing imaging trap.
The first person to trigger it wouldn’t activate it; it would only enter standby mode.
When a second person triggered the heat-imaging sensor, concealed traps would instantly activate.
The deadly mechanisms beneath the floor would claim the life of whoever triggered them.
Tom’s device had automatically analyzed all of this.
The device in Tom’s hand was an advanced piece of tech designed specifically for detecting and analyzing such modern defense systems.
A priceless tool in Tom’s line of trade... or, mission execution.
Tom pulled out a small screwdriver.
He knocked gently on the wall ahead.
Tap tap tap—
Tap tap tap—
Thump thump thump—
Suddenly, the sounds changed.
A smirk spread across Tom’s lips.
"Found it!"
Tom carefully pried open a hollow wall tile.
The moment the tile was removed, a precision device with a flashing red signal light came into view.
As soon as Tom saw the device, he sneered and aimed his instrument at it, scanning until a green light illuminated on the device. Then, he pulled out a custom pair of small pliers and snipped one of the wires.
Snip—
The special pliers closed, the wire snapped, and the red light on the device instantly went out.
The early-warning sensor of the device had been effortlessly disabled by Tom.
After disabling the sensor, Tom moved on to dismantling the entire mechanism.
He packed the dismantled parts into his backpack.
This seemingly simple device, no larger than a tablet, was a significant find.
Its production cost was no less than a million. By reattaching the early-warning sensor, setting up a heat-imaging system, and adding one’s chosen mechanisms, it could be reused immediately. Acquiring it was like pocketing a million for free.
Tom planned to install this device in the Phoenix Nest to bolster its defenses.
Once he finished dismantling the entire system, Tom packed up his gear and continued ahead with Unhappy.
Without danger, Unhappy was a mere tagalong, following wherever Tom went. But the moment they encountered danger, Unhappy would act swiftly, escorting Tom away to ensure his safety.
Tom continued forward, holding his instrument aloft.
Ten meters down the corridor, his instrument triggered another alarm.
Tom halted and began searching for the trap.
One minute later!
Tom’s expression changed. He immediately stepped back.
"Unhappy, retreat!"
He shouted to Unhappy at the same time.
Although Unhappy was confused, he still followed Tom’s lead and withdrew instantly.
Tom retreated with Unhappy until they stood by Taotie, where they finally stopped.
Seeing Tom rushing back in such a fluster, Taotie looked puzzled. "What happened?"
"Did someone step on your tail?"
As always, Taotie’s words were as subtle as a barking dog.
"The trap ahead is troublesome."
"I need you to deal with it." Tom said helplessly.
"What kind of trap needs me to handle it?"
"An ancient mechanism technique, perhaps?" Taotie asked curiously.
"No, the trap has already been triggered. I need you to deal with what’s been deployed so I can continue dismantling the mechanism."
Tom shook his head, explaining.
"Oh?"
"Let me take a look at what it is." Taotie grew interested.
He grabbed his Strange Dagger and strode forward.
"What the hell?"
"Old Tom, what is this thing?"
Upon seeing what the trap had deployed, Taotie couldn’t stay calm and shouted in disbelief.
Before him were two unexpected entities, standing silently in place, blocking the entire passage.
"Mechanical robots!"
Tom answered.
"Bionic robots."
As if his explanation wasn’t sufficient, Tom added another sentence.
"Bionic robots are a cutting-edge technological concept abroad. Yet, who would’ve thought the pawnshop already has them in use."
"These two bionic robots likely have half-step Super strength each. Even if I teamed up with Unhappy, we wouldn’t stand a chance against one. So, it’s up to you to handle them." Tom smiled wryly.
"Bionic robots?"
"They’re that impressive?"
"And they even have half-step Super strength?"
"You scientists are seriously defying the natural order. Are we going to see Super Bionic Robots next, or even something beyond a Super Bionic Robot in the future?"
Taotie was utterly stunned by the bionic robots.
This was a game-changer.
If these scientists kept pushing boundaries, it wouldn’t be long before Super-strength bionic robots emerged. At that point, why would Jianghu Forces bother nurturing talent? Anyone willing to pay could have Super Masters at their disposal.
The position of current Super Masters like him would be at risk.
They would lose all advantages.
Let alone any deterrence they once had.
Knowing this, Taotie was sure that if other Super Masters found out, the scientists behind bionic robots would face global manhunts...
