Chapter 548: Chapter 544 Zuo Ci’s Assistant

"A subcutaneous implant locator?"

Tom, experienced as ever, glanced through the rearview mirror and immediately recognized the red dot.

Fang Xiaocao’s face showed an expression of understanding.

Just as she had expected.

The locator wasn’t in the car but had been implanted into the bodies of the pursuers.

No wonder the pursuers could pinpoint their location so accurately.

Even if they switched vehicles, as long as those people were with them, they couldn’t shake off the pursuit.

Fang Xiaocao silently opened the car door and looked at the Store Manager squatting near the door, tongue out.

She suddenly kicked hard.

"Awoo—"

Completely unprepared, the Store Manager let out a yelp like a hurt puppy.

He tumbled straight out of the speeding car.

Rolling several times on the ground, bloodied and dazed, he staggered up from the dirt.

Fang Xiaocao withdrew her gaze and shut the car door.

"Find a side road up ahead and turn off this path."

"Carting around such a big locator? The route we’re taking has long been exposed."

Fang Xiaocao said grimly.

Tom nodded, indicating he understood.

He immediately jerked the steering wheel.

The car veered onto a secluded road.

This road was exceedingly remote.

Thick weeds grew on both sides, and it was rarely used.

But it did appear on the map.

By taking this route, they could connect to another road five kilometers away that ran parallel to the current one.

While both roads led to the same general destination, through side routes, they branched off to different cities. Tom didn’t believe for a second that without the locator, the Blacklist and Pawnshop crew could still track them down.

Another ten minutes passed when Fang Xiaocao’s vision suddenly darkened. Her mind reeled as if someone had smashed her on the back of the head with a heavy club.

Her body trembled, nearly sliding off the backseat, but Unhappy, sitting to her side, quickly reached out and steadied her, preventing her from falling to the floor.

Tom was startled by Fang Xiaocao’s extreme reaction and nearly slammed on the brakes, almost swerving into a ditch. "Princess Your Highness, what’s wrong with you?"

Seeing Fang Xiaocao in such a disheveled state, Tom panicked, abandoning all his usual gentlemanly composure, his face now filled with anxiety and concern.

Fang Xiaocao took a moment to steady herself, then shook her head. "I’m fine. Keep moving. We can’t stop. Two people were just killed, and the backlash hit me hard. There’s still one left. Once they’re taken out, the Pawnshop and Blacklist will throw everything they’ve got into hunting us down."

Fang Xiaocao forced herself to explain, pushing past the waves of discomfort that nearly made her faint.

While her strength had grown and severed bonds no longer affected her spirit, the physiological backlash was amplified tenfold, making it hard to adjust.

Hearing what Fang Xiaocao said, Tom nodded and resumed driving, speeding along the road.

The path Tom had chosen was remarkably isolated.

Though technically a main road, there were virtually no other vehicles.

If anything, Tom’s sharp swerving earlier had nearly flung the car into a ditch. On a busier road, an accident would’ve been unavoidable.

A few more minutes passed, and Fang Xiaocao slowly recovered, exhaling a deep breath.

"Damn it, this is killing me."

"The backlash is seriously brutal."

Fang Xiaocao wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.

But a sense of foreboding swept over her.

It felt as though a dark cloud loomed directly overhead.

The pressure was suffocating, making it difficult for her to breathe.

"Tom, speed up."

"I’ve got a bad feeling about this."

Fang Xiaocao said to Tom.

Tom stayed silent but obeyed Fang Xiaocao’s order, slamming down on the accelerator.

The car surged forward at an even higher speed, shooting down the road like an arrow.

Another twenty minutes passed.

The ominous feeling in Fang Xiaocao’s heart grew heavier, as if disaster was imminent.

"What’s going on?"

"Where’s the danger coming from?"

Fang Xiaocao muttered to herself.

She couldn’t pinpoint the source of this overwhelming sense of crisis.

Apart from the pursuers, there didn’t seem to be any threat.

But the pursuers couldn’t possibly move this quickly.

Why was the sense of danger intensifying?

Soon, Fang Xiaocao understood where the threat was coming from.

BANG—

A deafening crash shattered the silence.

SCREECH—

The tires screeched harshly against the road as Tom stomped on the brakes.

The car jolted violently and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

Inside the car, Fang Xiaocao and the others were thrown into a chaotic tumble. It took them a while to regain their composure.

Fang Xiaocao looked toward the driver’s seat and saw that the car hood had caved in, dented by something massive.

Sitting crouched on the hood was an enormous creature with a body so robust that even in a hunched position, it stood almost two meters tall—bigger than even the hulking Taotie.

HISS—

Fang Xiaocao gasped in shock.

"What kind of monster is this?"

Fang Xiaocao exclaimed in disbelief.

The thing in front of her not only lacked any resemblance to a human.

Its features were grotesque, like a patchwork Frankenstein’s monster.

A complete amalgam of contradictions.

QUACK, QUACK, QUACK—

Just as Fang Xiaocao reeled in shock, her phone pinged with a notification.

Fang Xiaocao quickly pulled out her phone to check.

She had a hunch that whoever was messaging her now had to be Hot Noodles.

Quickly unlocking the screen, she looked at the message source. Her heart leapt with relief.

It was, indeed, from Hot Noodles.

[Hot Noodles: The monster in front of you is Zuo Ci’s Super Master. The real test has begun. Good luck. If you survive, I’ll make sure to reward you handsomely.]

Seeing Hot Noodles’ message, Fang Xiaocao took a sharp breath. This "Suture Monster" was actually a Super Master. They were in deep trouble now.

The Suture Monster’s arrival meant Zuo Ci couldn’t be far behind.

Two Super Masters blocking the road, with Taotie still unconscious, left Fang Xiaocao feeling her scalp prickling with dread.

"The Suture Monster is a Super Master! Be careful, Tom!"

Without wasting time, Fang Xiaocao urgently warned him.

Hearing her warning, Tom tensed, his senses immediately shifting to high alert.

The next second—

The Suture Monster sneered and raised a massive fist.

CRASH—

The monster’s punch shattered the windshield in one blow, creating a gaping hole. Its giant hand lunged toward Tom in the driver’s seat.

Fortunately, Tom had prepared himself.

As the Monster raised its fist, Tom opened the driver’s door and rolled out of the car just as the blow came down.

CRACK—

With a muffled crunch, the steering wheel was pulverized under the force of the Suture Monster’s punch. Luckily, Tom had escaped just in time.

Otherwise, that punch would’ve crushed him, leaving him critically injured—or worse.

"Get out of the car!"

Shouted Fang Xiaocao.

Mantis, seated in the front passenger seat, reacted quickest.

With a swift Praying Mantis Fist, he struck at the Suture Monster’s arm, aiming to disable its invading hand.

SMACK—

Mantis’s full-power punch connected with the monster’s arm, producing a sharp sound.

The Suture Monster was unfazed, but Mantis’s knuckles visibly swelled up, reddening instantly.

"Heh heh—"

The Suture Monster sneered mockingly at Mantis.

Then its hand swung toward the car’s front passenger windshield.

Mantis, terrified, frantically scrambled to open the car door.
