Chapter 415 - Chapter 415 Chapter 411 Begin Action
Chapter 415: Chapter 411 Begin Action Chapter 415: Chapter 411 Begin Action Taking advantage of the sun not yet rising, two pickup trucks sped through the night without the encumbrance of camels, and the speed had increased by more than one notch.
What was originally a two-day journey was stubbornly completed overnight.
As the sun rose and gradually climbed higher, Tom, leading the way, picked up the radio: “Taotie, has Princess Your Highness woken up?”
Hearing Tom’s call, Taotie picked up the vehicle-mounted radio and responded: “She’s awake and in good spirits.”
Relieved by Taotie’s response, Tom exhaled: “That’s good. The target location is directly ahead of us, about ten kilometers away. It’ll be noon soon; let’s find a place nearby to camp and then move out at night.”
Hearing Tom’s words, Taotie turned his head to look at Fang Xiaocao, seeking her opinion with his eyes.
Fang Xiaocao nodded: “Sure.”
With Fang Xiaocao’s affirmation, Taotie then replied: “Princess Your Highness agrees, let’s rest nearby first, and then move at night.”
Tom put down the radio, glanced at the markers on his terminal, and with a turn of the steering wheel to the left, he drove between two sand dunes, pressing down on the brakes.
Taotie followed closely behind, stopping the car together.
Fang Xiaocao got out of the car, stretched her limbs, and scanned the surrounding environment.
Two tall sand dunes perfectly shielded the area from the scorching sun, casting a large shadow.
Fang Xiaocao was quite pleased with the site for camping: at least it wasn’t as hot as outside.
Without tents, they set up camp.
Simply staying inside the vehicles or sleeping underneath them.
Water was also insufficient, and there was no soup to drink.
They could only chew on dried meat and take a few sips of cold water to ease the choking if necessary.
After a simple desert picnic, Brainless was left on guard, Xiaocao slept in one vehicle, and for safety considerations, Tom had Taotie sleep underneath Xiaocao’s vehicle to protect her. Tom slept in the other vehicle.
Brainless was on lookout under Tom’s vehicle.
Fang Xiaocao, having slept half the day and all night, wasn’t tired at all. She simply held the Blood Jade Ring and started meditating.
Sharpening the ax before the battle doesn’t hinder its timely use.
The shadowy figure behind the scenes had instilled a sense of crisis in her.
Moreover, the plan she and Tom had set was about to be put into action. Although Fang Xiaocao was confident when setting the plan, she inevitably felt apprehensive as the implementation approached.
Today, however, was exceptionally calm.
The hidden enemy didn’t make another move.
Instead, there was an opportunity for rest and recuperation.
Time passed swiftly like a white steed flashing past a gap.
With the sun setting in the west, the sky gradually dimmed.
Fang Xiaocao, having meditated for half the day and well-rested at night, felt not the slightest fatigue but rather refreshed and energized.
At this time, both Taotie and Tom had also woken up.
They were checking their gear, readying for the night raid on the Pawnshop vault.
Fang Xiaocao opened the door and got out of the vehicle, and Brainless, squatting nearby, scurried over, cuddling against Xiaocao’s trouser leg like a puppy.
After patting Brainless’s head, Fang Xiaocao pulled out a strip of dried meat and stuffed it into his mouth.
“Scat, scat, scat, go eat over there,”
Fang Xiaocao said with a laugh.
Clutching the dried meat in his mouth, Brainless leapt onto the roof of the vehicle.
With both hands, he started gnawing on the dried meat.
Having sent Brainless off, Fang Xiaocao approached Tom and Taotie and began with the code word to start the plan: “Tom, time to send a location update to home.”
Hearing Fang Xiaocao’s words, Tom and Taotie both looked up at her.
Tom nodded: “Okay.”
Taotie, however, blinked and asked, “Sending it this early? Don’t we still have ten kilometers to go?”
Fang Xiaocao looked at Tom and signaled that he could start. Receiving Fang Xiaocao’s suggestive glance, Tom nodded and stood up, “I’ve brought a real-time locator device. They can use it to find Princess Your Highness’s location.”
Speaking, Tom took out a locator the size of a button cell and handed it to Fang Xiaocao, “Just press the signal button every ten minutes.”
Fang Xiaocao took the locator and nodded.
“Princess Your Highness, you should go ahead. I need to find a suitable place to send the locator signal; it’s a bit cumbersome, so don’t wait for me. Once the signal is successfully transmitted, I’ll catch up with you,” Tom said, feigning ease.
“Then Old Tom, you’d better hurry. I’m taking Princess Your Highness with me now.”
Tom’s flawed excuses were believed by the simpleminded Taotie.
Fang Xiaocao nodded at Tom and mouthed the words, “Be careful.”
And without looking back, she headed for the pickup truck.
“Taotie, Brainless, let’s go.”
Sitting in the truck, Fang Xiaocao called out.
Taotie, without any suspicion, immediately got in. When Brainless hopped into the passenger seat, he waved to Tom, “Old Tom, I’m going first.”
Tom smiled and waved goodbye to Taotie.
Taotie made a flying kiss gesture at Tom and then drove the car rapidly towards their destination.
Looking out the window, Fang Xiaocao saw Tom gradually shrink to a small black dot and sighed.
Tom’s mission was perilous, and he might even die, but Fang Xiaocao had no choice but to send him.
Apart from Tom, no one else was suitable for the job.
The ten-kilometer journey was very short.
Running on two legs wasn’t far.
Especially when driving.
Taotie stopped the car less than a kilometer away from the marked Pawnshop’s vault.
The car was still too big of a target and easily exposed them prematurely, so the three of them, Fang Xiaocao, continued on foot.
After shouldering their backpacks and taking enough supplies–even Brainless carried a backpack–Fang Xiaocao pressed the locator button and announced they were setting off.
The three jogged along and soon a section of the wind-eroded ancient city wall appeared before their eyes.
This was where the Pawnshop’s vault was located.
The Pawnshop had built its vault relying on the underground tomb of the ancient city’s lord, with the dilapidated ancient city above ground and the Pawnshop’s vault underground.
Taotie, walking in front, raised his hand to signal a stop, and Fang Xiaocao immediately grabbed Brainless’s hair, forcibly bringing him to a halt.
“Princess Your Highness, there are sentries ahead,” Taotie whispered.
Fang Xiaocao immediately crouched down and carefully observed the front. Indeed, she saw two Dahan in desert camouflage, smoking and chatting on a section of the ancient wall.
“Take them out,” Fang Xiaocao commanded in a low voice.
The feud between them and the Pawnshop had already reached a life-or-death stage, and Fang Xiaocao had no intention of holding back.
Taotie nodded, took off his backpack.
Clang–
He drew his long sword and stealthily made his way toward the ancient city wall.
Fang Xiaocao and Brainless lay in the sand, watching every move Taotie made.
Fang Xiaocao’s gun was already off safety, aimed at the city wall. If Taotie was exposed, she would pull the trigger to provide fire support for Taotie, while also sending out Brainless.
Fortunately, Taotie was agile enough, and his stealth skills were exceptional.
He soon reached the base of the wall, while the two Dahan on top were clueless, never imagining that someone would come to this godforsaken desert interior. They lacked the vigilance proper sentries should have, and Taotie managed to approach right under their noses without being detected.
